1 UNITED REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH S VOICE The month of October 2015 SEPTEMBER COUNCIL SUMMARY 9/10/15 Approved Kathryn Scharnweber as Sanctuary Choir accompanist. Approved July and August Financial reports, bills as presented by Ruekert. Pastor Marggi reported: Internship for Carleton Smee. Council approved Internship for Carleton Smee for up to 10 hours a week to work with Pastor Marggi starting Monday, Sept. 14 and ending Dec. 31, Pet Blessing on Oct. 4 Hayride on Oct. 18 Women s Bible Study beginning in Oct. Weekly Bible Study will be held at the Towers Will be attending Synod workshop reviewing Pastoral Call process Enjoying visits and getting to know parishioners Discussion held in regards to having a committee night. Council approved to have a meeting of all committees at 6 PM on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Pizza will be served. Approved Mission Trip for Pastor Marggi to Guatemala. Rohe updated council on needed repairs, etc. including: roofs, restrooms, flooring for hallways, stairways, and library; rekeying of outside door locks. Approved the roofing project for $11,900. HOLY HAYRIDE! COME ONE-COME ALL! OCTOBER 18 TH 1:30-4:30 The hayride will leave from the church parking lot around 1:45 and travel through town. Following the hayride will be pumpkin painting & carving, bobbing for apples, plus a caramel apple bar! And just for added fun cotton candy in all it s sweet-sticky-goodness too! All are invited to come and celebrate the beauty of fall! Holy moly it ll be a great time! We are asking folks to donate pumpkins and apples for the event. Please drop off a pumpkin or two and/or a bag of apples at church the week of Oct 12 th 70 TH WEDDING ANIVERSARY Congratulations to Dolph & Ursula Bezoier on their October 6 th wedding anniversary they will have 70 years of marriage together. The Bezoier s would like to share this wonderful event with coffee and cake at PACE on October 4 th! 2 UR CLOTHING STORE COME SHOP AT OUR NEW URLC CLOTHING STORE! The sales floor is located in the small room behind the sanctuary, off the back stairs under the balcony. Many years ago it was our nursery room. The room will be open every Sunday if you want to buy something or just look around. We will have clothes in stock for purchase, with more styles & sizes available to order! Check it out! Order forms are also available outside the office all week. THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE House-warmers are the heart of our home for families with sick children. Volunteers do various duties for three hour shifts from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. 365 days every year. The families deeply appreciate the warm and caring support the volunteers provide. House-warmers say they receive much more than they give! If you are interested in this rewarding volunteer program please contact Sue Weber at the House SOCIAL MINISTRY MEETING This team of volunteers supports URLC through visitation, bereavement ministry, gardening, knitting, international mission projects and providing meals for homebound people. We also organize drives to provide food/monetary donations to the Food Shelf year round. Our goal is to expand caring ministries not only within the congregation, but more importantly, in the broader community. New team members are always welcome, so if you are interested, please come to our next meeting at 5:30pm on Wednesday October 14 th or contact René Steger at GEV - SAVE THE DATE The Good Gifts Gala: It Takes a VIllage Mark you calendar for October 29 th! They would like current addresses so they can send out cards from United Redeemer Lutheran Church before the holidays. VOLUNTEER DRIVERS AN ESSENTIAL MINISTRY AT URLC On occasion we hear from our members, that they need a ride to an appointment or to church services. If you feel called to help in this important ministry please contact the office and let someone know, you would like your name added to the list of volunteer drivers. Someone may call you at some point to ask if your schedule is open to providing a ride, and that is all we ask. We are also attempting to use a website called Volunteer Spot, a site designed to help churches and non-profits coordinate their volunteers. 3 UNITED REDEEMER YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL SUNDAY 9:15-10:15 AM Sunday school has started, come join us! Any 3 year old thru 7th grade student is welcome to come any Sunday to join class! We are always in of teachers/shepherds for our new year of Sunday school, just let Cindy know. We are having so much fun with our new Pastor Marggi. She will be popping in your Sunday school room to visit, & leading a quick puppet show at the beginning of our music worship time. Sunday school can t run without all our volunteers, so please think about helping in a small or big way. We would love any kind of time you can spend with our youth at Sunday school here at URLC! CONFIRMATION CLASS 2015 REFORMATION SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25 TH On Sunday, October 25 th, we have 17 youth being Confirming their Faith at the 10:30 am service. Please remember 10 th gr. class, that we have a meeting on Sun. Oct. 18 th at 5-6pm. Pictures & practice is on Wed. Oct. 21 st at 7pm. Please come to the 9:30 am PACE time to greet them at our Confirmation Reception. YOUTH MISSION TRIP 2016 THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER/DEPOSIT OF $200 IS ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1 ST The Mission Trip 2016 is set for July 17 th - July 22 nd in Nashville, TN through YouthWorks. You can sign up with Cindy for this fun trip. If you would like to hear more information about this mission trip, please ask Cindy anytime. Her is Youth@urlchurch.org. October 21 st : small group fellowship - students will hear from their leaders about the time & location for your fun small group event! October 28 th : regular class time at 6:45-7:45pm SUNDAY SCHOOL CALENDAR October 11th: The Praise Room is open to redeem your tokens from you Memory work. October 11th: Noisy Offering is collected at both services! Keep that loose change to help our Sunday school! 4 WOMEN OF THE ELCA KLENLI - KITS During the month of October, we will once again be collecting items for Klenli-Kits. In past years the kits have been given to the Women s Shelter & Food Self. We will need the following items for our project: Bath Towels (standard size 52") Hand Towels Wash Cloths Dove/Ivory unscented bar soap *please, no Irish Spring Individual tooth brushes Tooth paste Shampoo (any size) Wide-toothed combs Nail-clippers Band-Aids Emery boards Money* We will also find a place for sample sized lotions, toothpastes, shampoos, etc. Please place items in the boxes at east entrance to the church and the sanctuary. *Money to help buy some of the items is most welcome. [You may turn the money into the office (or in the offering plate including a note on the memo line).] Thanks for helping, Rebekah Circle. HEAR YE! HEAR YE! LEFSE TIME IS UPON US! Two groups are planned. Church Kitchen is the place. Get out your equipment. Potatoes are on the way! LEFSE SCHEDULE 2015 Mary s group ( ) Sundays at 12 noon October 25 th November 1 st November 8 th Leah s group ( ) Tuesdays at 9:00 am October 27 th November 3 rd November 10 th We will also make fresh Lefse at the Holiday Festival (December 5 th ) in the fellowship hall. More about that next month Back to the Lefse Interested?? Everyone is welcome (men and women). Don t worry if you want to learn we will find a job for you. Or maybe just make a batch of potatoes. You will enjoy it and lots of laughing goes on. WELCA QUILTING DATES Oct 22 nd Jan 28 th Feb 25 th March 4 th WELCA Quilting has started. Do you know how to tie a knot? That is all you have to know to join the group. Just imagine how it would feel to have a warm quilt when you have nothing to keep you or your children warm. Group meet the 4 th Thursdays of October, January, February and March. We meet in the big Sunday school room at 9am. Plan to join the group. There will be treats too. JoAnn Ring can answer questions.
