2 THE INVOCATION THE ORDER OF SERVICE We invoke ( call upon ) the name of our Triune God. Pastor: We begin our Savior s worship service today in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. ALL: Amen! Opening Hymn: 587 (Red Hymnal) CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION OF SINS We come before God recognizing that we are sinful and daily need His forgiveness. P: We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve Him as His dear children. But we have disobeyed Him and deserve only His wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to Him and plead for His mercy. ALL: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from conception. In countless ways I have sinned against You and do not deserve to be called Your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to Your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt. P: God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, He has removed your guilt forever. You are His own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to His will! ALL: Amen! 3 GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST GLORIA IN EXCELSIS PRAYER OF THE DAY 1 ST SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ LAMENTATIONS 3:22-33 Is there a silver lining in the dark clouds of afflictions? The prophet Jeremiah declares that no matter how great the suffering and sadness was for the people of Jerusalem after the destruction of their beloved city, there is still cause for joy because the LORD S compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Through the Lord s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 24 The Lord is my portion, says my soul, Therefore I hope in Him! 25 The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him. 26 It is good that one should hope and wait quietly For the salvation of the Lord. 27 It is good for a man to bear The yoke in his youth. 28 Let him sit alone and keep silent, Because God has laid it on him; 29 Let him put his mouth in the dust There may yet be hope. 30 Let him give his cheek to the one who strikes him, And be full 3 P a g e

4 of reproach. 31 For the Lord will not cast off forever. 32 Though He causes grief, Yet He will show compassion According to the multitude of His mercies. 33 For He does not afflict willingly, Nor grieve the children of men. 2 ND SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ 2 CORINTHIANS 8:1-9, Paul holds up two shining examples of selfless generosity. First, the Macedonians, who, although severely tried and extremely poor, were truly generous with their gifts. How? They first gave themselves to the Lord. The second example is our Lord Jesus, who gave all that He had so that we might have the riches of heaven. Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia: 2 that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality. 3 For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing, 4 imploring us with much urgency [a]that we would receive the gift and the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. 5 And not only as we had hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God. 6 So we urged Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also complete this grace in you as well. 7 But as you abound in everything in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us see that you abound in this grace also 8 I speak not by commandment, but I am testing the sincerity of your love by the diligence of others. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich 13 For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened; 14 but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may supply their lack, that their abundance also may supply your lack that there may be equality. 4 P a g e

5 P: Blessed are they who hear the Word of God and keep it! OUR CONFESSION OF FAITH ~ THE APOSTLES CREED I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Why trouble the Teacher any further? 36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, Do not be afraid; only believe. 37 And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. 38 Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw a tumult and those who wept and wailed loudly. 39 When He came in, He said to them, Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeping. 40 And they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. 41 Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, Talitha, cumi, which is translated, Little girl, I say to you, arise. 42 Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement. 43 But He commanded them strictly that no one should know it, and said that something should be given her to eat. Death Strikes Again! 1. The weekend will include Bible Study, Fellowship, Leadership Training, Team and Relationship Building and Worship, as well as several awesome outdoor activities. Theme: Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Paul Heinze would like to know how many people are coming and what you would like to do about 2 weeks ahead of time, if it is possible. He is also offering to get lunch for all of the workers (as added incentive). Below is a list of the ladies who are the contact people for this summer. 11 1. Uganda Visiting Missionary Michael Gurath reports: Pastor Tanas Wangira has recently fallen ill. His wife, children, and mother all depend on him for support. 2. Myanmar Pastor Thang, president of the CLC-Myanmar, was recently involved in a serious motorcycle accident while returning from Chin State where he was conducting Gospel outreach and pastor training. As of May 29th, Pastor Thang was in the hospital being treated for injuries to his head, collar bone, toe, and ribs. 3. Nepal Outreach seminars and baptisms are currently taking place among new contacts in areas south of Kathmandu. Pastor Raju and others will be traveling extensively during June and July before the rainy season begins when travel becomes very difficult due to annual landslides and flooding. They are also doing as much Gospel outreach as possible before the new "anti-conversion" law goes into effect on July 1st. 4. 12 5. Missionary Peter Evensen will be traveling back to the U.S. soon from his home in Chennai, India for his summer vacation and furlough. Pray that the Lord will grant safe and uneventful travel, a time of good rest, and a blessed time of fellowship with friends and family. 6.
