10 THE DISCIPLESHIP MINISTRY AREAS The Ministry Area s primary task is to plan and implement ministries that fulfill the mission, vision and goals of the local church. There are four Ministry Areas: the Evangelism Ministry Area, the Faith Ministry Area, the Mission Ministry Area, and the Fellowship Ministry Area. Each ministry area is led by a Director who is nominated by the Committee on Nominations and Leadership Development (CNLD). The Director of each area will serve one year terms and may serve as the leader of the area as long as the CNLD believes he/she is providing the leadership needed. The Ministry Area Directors provide leadership to the ministry teams in their area. They will do this by keeping the mission, vision and strategic plan before the leaders in their ministry area. The Directors are to be an accountability agent for the mission of Christ and help those in their area execute the strategic plan. Ministry Area Director will meet with the leadership of his/her area to build community, pray for each other and their ministries, and to keep each other informed. The Ministry Area Director is an ex officio member of every ministry in their area. The Ministry Area Director is not to micromanage his/her Ministry Team Leaders. THE MINISTRY TEAMS How does a Ministry Team function? A Ministry Team is comprised of a group of people who share a common interest of serving Christ and others. Ministry Teams (MT s) are willing to give time and energy to a particular task about which they feel a sense of God s call and to which they bring a special skill, passion, or spiritual giftedness. Ministry Teams make most of their own decisions, measuring them against the congregation s mission, vision, strategic plan and guiding principles. They meet as needed to coordinate and accomplish their specific task. These teams rarely meet to discuss. They primarily function - for they are action oriented. Example: the ushers are a Ministry Team that is a part of the Worship Area and the delivery of Meals-on-Wheels is done by a Ministry Team, which is a part of the Missions Ministries Area. Ministry Team Leaders are selected by the Leadership Development Team and are given the responsibility for leading their team to accomplish its purpose with excellence. Ministry Team Leaders (MTL) are free to invite anyone who is interested to serve on their team. However, MTL s will also receive a list of names of people who are interested in serving on their team by their Ministry Area Director. GENERAL INFORMATION: It is highly recommended that January be used as a planning month for all Ministry Areas and Ministry Teams. Use this time to set dates, goals, projects and activities that move us in the direction of our vision for the year, and to pray for your success in these endeavors. In February, all calendar dates are presented to the Focus Team for coordination and review. Revised on 06/19/2015 9
