4 PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY Saturday, April 7 at 10AM Main Office - Lower Level Prayer Shawl Ministry will begin meeting again Come join members of our three parishes who gather typically on the first Saturday of the month to knit and crochet prayer shawls and lap blankets for our sick and homebound parishioners. These lovingly created mantles serve as reminders of our prayers and God s love for those who are suffering and lonely. Free knitting and crocheting instruction is provided. ALL WOMEN of the Parish of the Holy Family are invited and most welcome to be part of this ministry. This group of women pray together, do outreach to the community, reflect on different topics and have fun together. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, April 10 at 6:30PM in the Gathering Place at our St. Helen Worship Site. Once of the projects we will be discussing is making snack bags for the Ronald McDonald House. If you are 18 or older and would like to find out more, please join us. Hosie at x108. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptisms are celebrated at weekend Masses and are scheduled. Participation in a Baptism Preparation Class is necessary before your child is baptized. Please contact the office at least three months before the date you would like to celebrate this sacrament. All are welcome to attend. Our guest speaker will be a representative from the House of Mercy to share about what this ministry does for the people of the city of Rochester. This is a ministry we donate to at Christmas time. It should be a very interesting presentation. Join us and give our guest speaker a warm welcome. Our meeting will follow. Come for the speaker or stay for both the speaker and the meeting. Thursday, April 12 "Pot Luck Supper" open to all parishioners 6PM at Nellis Hall. No charge. Bring a dish to pass. We will be having a guest speaker that evening. Gates Police Chief James VanBrederode will speak regarding the drug problem in our community as well as other communities in our country. He will help to educate us on addiction and recovery and see how we as a faith community can help deal with this problem. It would be nice to have a good representation from our parish. We ll be having our Volunteer meeting on Wednesday, April 4 at 6:30PM in the faith formation center. We need many helping hands for set-up, pricing, concessions, and the sale itself. We would be grateful for any time you could give. We ll have calendars available at the meeting with the sale and set up dates. Volunteering is a great opportunity to get an advance peek at all the treasures for sale! Getting ready to do your Spring Cleaning? Remember the next-to-new sale! Sau tên cực trọng của Chúa Giêsu, hai chữ thường nằm trên đầu môi chót lưỡi của Mẹ là tốt đẹp và kỳ diệu. Hai tiếng ấy là một tóm gọn của bài ca ngợi khen của Ðức Maria mà Mẹ Têrêxa đã lấy làm tâm tình của mình. Tốt đẹp và kỳ diệu thay Tình Yêu Quan Phòng của Chúa được thể hiện qua những hy sinh và phục vụ của Mẹ dành cho những người cùng khổ ở Ấn Dộ và trên khắp thế giới Cách đây hơn 15 năm, Malcolm Muggerridge, một ký giả và bình luận gia nổi tiếng của đài BBC, đã cùng với một nhóm chuyên viên của đài đến Ấn Ðộ để làm một cuộc phỏng vấn về Mẹ Têrêxa, về các hoạt động của Mẹ. Sau năm ngày làm việc, đến lúc cắt xén và tháo ráp để dựng thành cuốn phim, Mẹ Têrêxa đã thốt lên: Hãy làm một cái gì tốt đẹp cho Chúa. Tốt đẹp và kỳ diệu thay! Khuôn mặt đau khổ của nhân loại được phơi bày, nhưng Tình Yêu của Thiên Chúa cũng được thể hiện qua những âm thầm hy sinh phục vụ của Mẹ Têrêxa và các nữ tu của Mẹ. Ngày nay, khi đi qua một số thành phố lớn trên thế giới, thỉnh thoảng người ta đọc được bảng hiệu: Hãy gìn giữ cho thành phố được sạch hoặc Hãy làm đẹp thành phố. Những khẩu hiệu ấy nhắc nhở cho kiều dân và khách qua đường về nghĩa vụ tôn trọng trật tự, cũng như giữ cho thành phố được sạch sẽ và đẹp đẽ. Mỗi người Kitô cũng là một thành phố của Thiên Chúa. Họ luôn được mời gọi để giữ thơm và làm sạch cho thành phố ấy. 9 SUNDAY READINGS - April 8, Second Sunday of Easter / Divine Mercy Sunday 1st Reading - Acts 4: nd Reading - 1 John 5:1-6 Gospel - John 20:19-31 Holy Week and the Easter celebration has enabled us to emotionally and spiritually walk with Jesus and the disciples through their spiritual warfare and victory. On Holy Thursday our hearts were alternately warmed and chilled as we entered into Jesus inauguration of the Eucharist, and heard the warning of His coming betrayal. Our hearts became burdened with heaviness when on Good Friday we recalled Jesus arrest, abusive trial and crucifixion, even though we knew the rest of the story. Then in the Easter vigil and during the Easter celebration we were able to exalt in Jesus resurrection and victory over Satan, the forces of evil, and death. We rejoiced knowing that death is destroyed once and for all and that we have new life through faith in the merits of Jesus. Sadly, for many, the Easter story ends on Easter morning. Actually, Easter should be just the beginning of a new reality which we should ever experience for the future. What are we celebrating if we are not celebrating entering into a new way of living? How tragic it would have been for the disciples to have participated in this fateful week in Jesus life and to have walked away unchanged. How tragic it would have been if they simply returned to their homes and picked up their lives where they left off before they met Jesus. The whole message of the Gospel of John is captured in the opening paragraph; In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. And in the closing chapters of John s Gospel, Jesus Passion fulfilled this truth uttered at the beginning of His ministry. Would it be possible to really comprehend this truth, celebrate it, and walk away unchanged by it? I think not! There are three expected changes that are fully recognizable in today s Gospel reading. The first is when Jesus twice said, Peace be with you. No more should our lives be characterized by fear; fear of death, fear of God s retribution, or fear of powerlessness in our lives to overcome the darkness. As we contemplate the finished work of Christ and entrust ourselves to Him, we will see a diminishing of fear and an up-surging of peace filling our being. A second change should come about as we grasp Jesus statement, As the Father has sent Me, even so I send you. This commission provides purpose and direction for a lifetime. No more must we wander meaninglessly about trying to discover why we exist, or what our purpose is. The resurrection and this commission provides the ultimate promotion; to be ambassadors of Christ to a world that lives in darkness and from which we have been delivered. We have become carriers of forgiveness to a world experiencing the affects of condemnation. The third change is captured in John s statement, that believing you may have life in His name. If we walk away unchanged, only to experience life as do the nonbelievers around us, we are missing out, really missing out. Jesus truly offers us new life, a life with new attitudes, with a new spirit, with new power over sin, with new relationships, both with God and with God s people, a new family. We need not walk away unchanged. We can continue to walk with the disciples emotionally and spiritually for the remainder of our lives. The process for us is the same as it was for them. We need to go to Jesus and ask Him to breathe into us new life, then join with His disciples to follow Him. If our life in God is to become vital in our experience, we must be involved in ongoing and repeated transformation. It does not have to be forced, but it does have to be real. God s grace will do most of it, but our cooperation is required. CHECK OUT FORMED: for a different view point on this weeks Sunday readings... STUFFED HAM AND EGG BREAD 2 teaspoons canola oil 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes, drained 6 large eggs, lightly beaten 2 cups chopped fully cooked ham 1 tube (11 ounces) refrigerated crusty French loaf 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese Preheat oven to 400. In a large nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add tomatoes; cook and stir until juices are evaporated, minutes. Add eggs; cook and stir until they are thickened and and no liquid egg remains, 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in ham. ST. HELEN S SPARKLE WORKERS - TEAM 1 Unroll dough onto a greased baking sheet. Sprinkle cheese lengthwise down one half of the dough to within 1 in. of edges. Top with egg mixture. Fold dough over filling, pinching to seal; tuck ends under. Bake until deep golden brown, minutes. Cut into slices.
