A couple weeks ago at the Easter Vigil, we sang All are Welcome (All Belong) by Jesse Manibusin for an offertory hymn after all the candidates were welcomed into the church. This was a powerful moment for me particularly in the song s refrain which states, All are welcome in this place, behold love s amazing grace. All are welcome. Bring your hopes, bring your dreams. Mercy flows and love redeems. All are welcome! All belong! I came to realize this is an important call to action for our parish family, the need to welcome each other at mass each week and at any of our worship sites. I believe most of us would agree that we would be welcoming to people new to the parish or visiting the parish, but how welcoming are we to each other every week? Do we invite other parishioners to join our ministries? Do we make others feel comfortable and accepted at our liturgies by reaching out and exchanging kind words? Do we put effort in getting to know the people sitting around us? Are we accepting of changes that may occur in our parish family or are we resistant to change? Consider families with small children. Do we encourage their participation in our liturgies? Do we offer to assist them during mass or tell them we recognize and appreciate their commitment to attending mass with small children? We always talk about the need for more volunteers in our ministries or the desire for new parishioners yet talking is just the beginning. Action is needed. It is our responsibility to reach out to each other, encourage, and welcome new participation in our liturgies and ministries. It is our call to be supportive to each other, staff and other ministers and help sustain our parish life. We need to meet each other where we are in our stages of life. If we can only commit to being a minister once a month, that is perfectly acceptable. Perhaps we are at a point in our lives where we can attend more than one mass to help where needed, that is also perfectly acceptable. Another song reminds us, We are a pilgrim people, we are the church of God, a family of believers, disciples of the Lord. You probably also recognize these lyrics, We are one body, one body in Christ. We do not stand alone. WE. It is up to each one of us to help our parish flourish and welcome each other every week at every worship site. We can be part of the solution. Support our ministries, join our ministries and participate in our liturgies with all you have to offer. If you see a need, ask how you can help. Encourage and welcome each other. We will be collecting gently used items including furniture, jewelry, dishes, linens, glassware, children and adult books, baby clothing up to size 3, baby equipment, toys, sporting equipment, gardening equipment, household items (toasters, blenders, etc.), unused greeting cards and collectibles. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY Thank you to all who made Divine Mercy Sunday a wonderful success. We had 65 people in attendance. Thank you to Fr. Sylvester for hearing confessions and praying the Benediction. Thank you for Sal and Peggy who offered their time and talent to make this a worshipful experience. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A PARISH COUNCIL? One reason for having a Parish Council is to foster communication between parishioners and pastor. It is a consultative group, composed of parishioners with different talents to advise the pastor. The group does not make decisions, but does recommend priorities, directions and policies based on the goals and objectives of the Parish. It provides a means for the faith community to express opinions. If you would like to serve as an active channel of communication to and from the community, consider joining the Parish Council. It doesn t take a lot of time one meeting the second Monday of every month from September to June. If you would like more information, please contact our current chair, Jennifer Alwardt, or jenwa52@gmail.com. Or attend one of our meetings. Meetings are at our Parish Office on the lower level at 7PM. We have at least 3 openings and would welcome anyone interested. Hình a nh Nhóm Chu a Tình Thương mừng lễ quan thầy Thánh nữ Maria Faustina Kowalska sinh 1905, nữ tu dòng Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. Nữ tu người Balan đã bắt đầu dự án cho bức chân dung này sau khi đón nhận thông điệp về lòng thương xót của Chúa trong năm 1930.Nhà thờ, nơi đặt bức chân dung, mở cửa 24/7, đồng thời khắp nơi trên thế giới có thể truy cập qua webcam hầu mọi người có thể được biết về lòng thương xót theo như điều Đức Giê-su đã nói với thánh Faustina. (Link truy cập: Dưới đây là một vài chi tiết liên quan đến bức chân dung này. Trong suốt 6 tháng, cứ 2 lần trong tuần thánh Faustina tới gặp gỡ vị họa sỹ tại nơi cư ngụ của cha linh hướng của chị, chân phước Sopocko, khi đó ngài sống ở tu viện Visitation vì ngài là tuyên úy ở đó. Tất cả công việc này được thực hiện trong bí mật vì người ta không thể tin được rằng Đức Giê-su đã hiện ra với chị và thực sự muốn chị vẽ bức chân dung ấy. Tuy nhiên, trước tiên thánh Faustina đã khẳng quyết với vị họa sỹ này rằng thực sự Thiên Chúa muốn như thế. Thánh Faustina đã luôn được đồng hành tới phòng vẽ này khi thì bởi vị cha xứ, lúc bởi một nữ tu đáng tin cậy khác. Ngày nay, phòng vẽ này được trang hoàng thành một ngôi nhà nguyện. Các nữ tu của dòng đã được cha Sopocko sáng lập vẫn tiếp tục sống trong ngôi nhà này và chăm sóc Thánh đường Lòng thương xót ở Vilnius. Đức Giê-su đã nói với chị Faustina về bức chân dung này rằng bất cứ ai tới sẽ nhận được lòng thương xót. Điểm sáng nhất của bức vẽ là nơi trái tim. Vầng sáng trên đầu biểu thị sự hiện diện của Chúa Cha. Tay phải thì không giơ cao như bức vẽ ở Krakow, nhưng đưa ra phía trước: đó là cử chỉ chúc lành của Thiên Chúa. Lần đầu tiên bức chân dung này được trưng bày để các tín hữu tôn kính là vào dịp Ngân khánh Chiến thắng ( ). Bức vẽ được trưng bày tại nhà nguyện Madonna Porta dell Aurora và được người Lithuanian tôn kính đến nỗi Soviet không dám đóng cửa nơi này. Trong ngày đó, cha Sopocko đã có một bài giảng về Lòng thương xót như Thiên Chúa đã yêu cầu và chị Faustina đã hết sức vui mừng. Trong suốt thời gian bị Soviet xâm chiếm, bức vẽ được giấu ở Belarus. Sau này, sau khi bức tường Berlin sụp đổ, ĐHY Audrys Bakis (Tổng Giám mục Vilnius, bây giờ đã nghỉ hưu) đã trả lại bức vẽ và đặt tại nhà thờ Chúa Ba Ngôi, nơi mà cha Sopocko là một linh mục, và ngôi nhà thờ cũng được phục hồi. Vào ngày Lễ Lòng thương xót , ĐHY Audrys Juozas Backis, Tổng Giám mục Vilnius, đã tái thánh hiến nhà thờ Chúa Ba Ngôi ở Vilnius thành Thánh đường Lòng Thương Xót. Cùng lúc đó, ngài chỉ định cho các nữ tu dòng Sisters of Merciful Jesus chăm sóc việc thờ phượng ở đây. Vào tháng , lần đầu tiên bức chân dung Lòng thương xót được đặt vào thánh đường này. Năm 2000 tại Đền thánh Phê-rô, Vatican, ĐTC Gio-an Phao-lô II đã phong thánh cho nữ tu Faustina và tuyên bố ngày Lễ kính Lòng thương xót. ĐTC Phanxicô, Đức Giáo hoàng của lòng thương xót, đã luôn đề cập đến lòng thương xót dưới nhiều cách thức khác nhau. Năm 2014, ĐTC Phanxicô đã phong thánh cho Đức Gio-an Phao -lô II (mất vào tháng ) cũng vào Chúa Nhật lòng thương xót ngày 27 tháng 04. Năm 2015, ĐTC Phanxicô cử hành thánh lễ tại Vương cung thánh đường thánh Phê-rô vào sáng Chúa nhật với Đức thượng phụ Giáo hội công giáo Armenian - Nerses Bedros XIX, với sự hiện diện của Đức Karekin II và Đức Aram I. Trong thánh lễ này, ĐTC tuyên bố thánh Gregory of Narek là Tiến sỹ Hội thánh. As shown above the goal has not yet been reached and we are obligated to make up any deficit. Hopefully, these collections will aid in reducing that deficit. The second of the three collections will be on the weekend of May 14/15. Envelopes will be in the pews prior to the collection and can be dropped into the collection at any time. We ask for your support, especially to those who have not yet made a pledge directly to CMA. Thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness. 9 SUNDAY READINGS - April 22, Fourth Sunday of Easter 1st Reading - Acts 4:8-12 2nd Reading - 1 John 3:1-2 Gospel - John 10:11-18 Many of us in the baby-boomer generation can recall learning, and reciting from memory, the Twenty-third Psalm: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Though thousands memorized this wonderful psalm it is doubtful how many actually gave any consideration as to what it meant to have Jesus as our shepherd. This week s Gospel reading, and the verses from John 10:1-21, begin to open up for us the significance of Jesus as shepherd. For the most part shepherds were not particularly esteemed in the time of Jesus life and ministry. As this passage indicates there were many that were hirelings, irresponsible and unreliable, especially in the face of danger. But by communicating this simple allegory Jesus elevates the role of shepherd to something significant which we are to emulate. Jesus describes Himself as the Good Shepherd which is in contrast to the evil shepherd. The evil shepherd takes his responsibility for the sheep lightly, and puts his own interests ahead of the sheep s well-being. Whereas Jesus takes this responsibility as shepherd very seriously, even to the point of dying to save the sheep. He is devoted to their care and protection. By contrast the hireling does not own the sheep, he does not know the sheep individually, and does not love the sheep, therefore he has no qualms about abandoning the sheep in the face of peril. Jesus on the other hand owns the sheep, having bought us with His own blood. We are His prized possession. He also knows us individually and calls us each by name. In this intimacy of knowing and being known personally by Jesus there is great assurance and peace. In addition, He loves us with an everlasting love, even as the Father loves us. Consequently, He brings all of His resources to bear to sustain our life and relationship with Him. That is why in the parable of the lost sheep the shepherd is so intent on finding the one that is lost, because He knows the lost sheep personally and loves it deeply. It is also important to note that the sheep respond differently to the Good Shepherd than they do to the hireling. The hireling they do not know, whereas Jesus they know. Some of us have been born into a Catholic Christian home and have grown up with a vicarious relationship with Jesus based on the faith of our parents. When a vicarious relationship is the sum and substance of our faith we often cannot say that we know Jesus the Good Shepherd. For those of us who fall in this category it is imperative that we personally embrace Jesus as our Savior. This is crucial: we must be converted and we must continue to be converted! We must let the Holy Spirit change our lives! We must respond to Jesus Christ. * This conversion will enable us to be ever more confident in our relationship with him. When Jesus speaks the sheep listen to Him. This passage implies that the Good Shepherd is desirous of communicating with us, but also that we need to listen to Him. Very simply this means that when we hear the Scripture read, read them ourselves, pray, or listen to the Scripture proclaimed we should not simply listen with our ears, but endeavor to have our heart attuned, asking, What is Jesus saying to us? Having heard His voice the sheep follow Him wherever He goes, obeying His voice. As His followers this is where our faith becomes alive. It remains no longer simply an intellectual tenet of faith, but becomes a belief that we act upon. Faith and obedience are really one in the same. If you look at Hebrews 11 where is listed an honor roll of faith filled believers, you will find that these heroes faith is always expressed by obedient behavior. Our faith becomes alive and vibrant only as we follow the Good Shepherd and respond to His leading in loving obedience. Only then do the truths of Psalms 23 become a reality for us. VANILLA CREAM FRUIT TART 3/4 cup butter, softened 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 pkg white baking chips, melted & cooled 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream 1pkg (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup pineapple juice 1/4 cup granulated sugar 1 tablespoon cornstarch 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice 1 cup fresh blueberries 1 cup fresh raspberries 1-1/2 to 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced Preheat oven to 300. Cream butter and confectioners' sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in flour (mixture will be crumbly). Pat onto a greased 12-in. pizza pan. Bake until lightly browned, minutes. Cool. HEY GUYS, I FOUND THE MISSING SHEE... AWW, NUTS! ST. HELEN SPARKLE WORKERS - TEAM 3 Beat melted chips and cream until smooth. Beat in cream cheese until smooth. Spread over crust. Refrigerate 30 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine pineapple juice, granulated sugar, cornstarch and lemon juice. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir until thickened, about 2 minutes. Cool. Arrange berries over cream cheese layer; brush with pineapple mixture. Refrigerate 1 hour before serving.
