Patience -- Oh what a lesson!

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. ~2 Peter 1:5-7 Patience is one of those attributes that you cannot learn by reading about it. It's a quality that can only be acquired by persistent, enduring, practice and for me it's a drill that I go over, and over, and over again! The original Webster's dictionary offers this definition of patience: "the suffering of afflictions, pain, toil, calamity, provocation or other evil, with a calm, unruffled temper; endurance without murmuring or fretfulness, from a kind of heroic pride, or from a Christian submission to the divine will." Reading this definition two things really struck me first, "endurance without murmuring". I, for instance, get so frustrated sitting in a traffic jam... counting the wasted minutes when I could have been doing something useful! Yet, what an opportunity for me to choose to quench the inner fumes and use the delay to work on my patience! The second thing that really hit me was, "a Christian submission to the divine will." How many times are we placed in a difficult position, or forced to deal with an "impossible" situation? Or perhaps, an "impossible" person? These circumstances are always opportunities to grow in patience or to learn to submit to God's providential will, and often, to minister in some special or unique way. Is your patience being tested today? Great! Remember, love is (first of all) patient. [1 Cor. 13:4] The Lord is training you toward godliness - and godliness is moving toward perfect love. With so much work to be done, He is really wanting to work this quality into your character now - to perfect your love, and with it to transform the world around you for His glory!

2 Announcements Young Adult Group THE MESSENGER Young People...looking for a crew close to your age bracket, a crew who are facing the same everyday life stuff you are facing. This group is here for you, we are new but great things are happening and being planned...bible studies thru out the year with drinks and snacks, retreats, picnics, guy things, girls things, if you have kids, you can bring them to bible study, fun things like volleyball and kayaking, young adult retreats...one is being researched for this year and/or next year. We will be starting up another Bible Study here in the fall so watch for updates on that! Please see Kurt or Jenn Smith for any questions or suggestions! Our Regular Adult Small Groups will be starting up soon! All are welcome! Upcoming Events UMW meetings Wednesday evenings at 7pm! Our Savior s Servants meet 1st Sunday of each month at 6:30pm! Grace Notes & Rocket Club every 3rd Wednesday thru the school year starting at 6pm! Prayer Team meets every 2nd & 4th Mondays at 7pm! Quilters Unlimited meet every 1st & 3rd Mondays at 6:30pm! Fellowship Breakfast held 1st Monday of each month at Family Traditions Restaurant at 8:30am! Meetings lots of them...see weekly bulletin! A Challenge for you this month: Do Something! Youth News If you are a young person entering grade 3 and up come join us! We would be glad to have you! Remember to Check mailboxes and white board for upcoming events and announcements! This fall we will start bible study back up...see whiteboard for updates! ATTENTION ADULTS IN THE CHURCH: We could use your help...we need more chaperones for events and for weekly bible study...if you are interested whether you have youth or not we would love your help, please note in order to do so you will need all clearances and be an attending worship for at least 6 months to work with our youth. Just some reminders When dropping off youth, please walk them in to the building and let the leaders know you are dropping them off and of any details that leaders should be aware of. The same goes with picking up youth, please come in and let the leaders know you are there and taking youth with you. This is for their safety and for leaders to have peace of mind knowing that they are safe! Thanks for your cooperation! - - Let s Grow together as a church family! PAGE 2 A New mission...grow in Faith together in growing our Sunday School Ministry! Let s invite and encourage each other in our Church family to get more involved and grow in our faith together! This is just one step! Lots of Sunday School Classes are available...a good variety...check one out today! The new adult class lead by Kurt Smith and Justin Keister will be held in the new fellowship hall! All Adults are welcome to try any of the classes offered. Any questions just ask!
