In his most famous book, The Crucified God, Moltmann writes that God suffers with us. God knows the pain we experience from time to time. This understanding did not come to Moltmann at a young age. He was introduced to this truth when he received a Bible from an American Army chaplain as a prisoner of war in 1945 when he was in a Belgian camp. Many parts of the Bible impacted him in meaningful ways. The Psalms and Lamentations lifted his spirits when he was weak and broken. The Passion stories showed him the incredible sacrifice our Lord made for each of us. The Gospels also gave him hope when he felt consumed with the darkness around him. Moltmann s story might not be the same as yours, but it is an example of the Bible putting us on the path towards understanding and wholeness. The Holy Scriptures help us get right with God and they bring meaning to our daily life. This month, a study will start on the book, Making Sense of the Bible, by Adam Hamilton. The study will enable an honest conversation to occur about the Bible. We will look at the foundational questions about the early beginnings of the Bible. We will examine decisions that were made to include some books in the Holy Scriptures and exclude other books. Finally, we will reflect on how the Bible impacts our daily lives today. I hope you consider joining one of our study groups. Groups will meet on Sundays, beginning September 10, at 10:15 am and 6:30 pm. God is good and God is moving us forward!! Blessings! Scott

4 P A G E 4 AFTER SCHOOL KIDS - UPDATED Here comes fall and time to get ready for After School Kids on the 1st Wednesday of the month. This has been a wonderful outreach in the community. Sarah Rothman and Melanie Schwartz lead the programs and they do a wonderful job. Last year we began the reading program and it went well, but we still need adults to sit with the youth when they read. The youth were excited about the books and reading, but it would be so much more personal if they had a one on one relationship with YOU!!!!! There is a sign up sheet in the Welcome Center if you would like to be a reading buddy or help out with treats. Here are the dates for After School Kids Program: September 6, October 4, November 1, December 6, No January meeting, February 7, March 7, April 4, and May 2. Worship Service and Leadership As you look around our church family there are so many talented and gifted people who serve in so many different ways, but we are always looking to reach others who would like to help out and maybe haven t been asked. Here s your chance. Are you looking for a way to serve the church during the worship time? Here are a few ways you could share your gifts and talents: Read Scripture...contact Linda Stamper Children s time..contact Linda Stamper Music.contact Jim Brown Golf Outing A Golf Outing is planned at Three Elms Park on Sunday, October 1st at 2:00 p.m. with potluck to follow. Hot dogs, brats, lemonade & coffee will be provided. Please bring a hot dish, salad, dessert or other side dish. There is a sign up sheet in the Welcome Center. This year we are asking that you donate $10.00 to Missions that will be used to help our kids at school, maybe for a lunch or supplies or in any way that is needed. Thank you. 5 P A G E 5 Old Creamery Theatre On Sunday, November 5, 2017, arrangements have been made to attend the 2:00 pm show, Rise Up, O Men, at eh Old Creamery Theatre. This latest addition to the Church Basement Ladies series is a brand new musical comedy introducing the men of the church right alongside your favorite ladies from the basement. As these hard-working farmers discuss man Stuff, they unintentionally disrupt the order of the kitchen. But that s what happens when you let the rooster in the hen house. The group rate is $27.00 per person if we have 16 people sign up by October 16th. If we do not get 16, the cost will be $31.00 per person. Please let Linda Stamper know as soon as possible if you plan to attend. Champs Closet Megan Rasmussen is our new point person for Champ s Cupboard. Champ s is a means to assist local students with basic items they need. Some of the churches in town come together with the school in this means of outreach. Pressing needs at this time include.... Grab and go breakfast items, like granola bars Personal items, like deodorant, soap, toothpaste Female personal hygiene items Donated items can be left in the Welcome Center at the church Thanks for your help and assistance!! Please pray for the victims of Hurricane Harvey Reminder! There is a UMW meeting on Thursday, September 7th at 12:30 p.m. Thank you The Mission Committee would like to thank the congregation for participating in the Rummage Sale. There was just over $1, raised for their mission projects. A special shout out for committee spouses: Brett Barnett, Rick Greiner, Mark Penne and Sally Bond and also to Ed and Jeanne Wiggins, Kim Stimson and Mary Schubich for your support (and muscle) to our Mission Committee Project!
