(Psalm 117) What is the longest chapter in the Bible? (Psalm 119) Fact: There are 594 chapters before Psalm 118. Fact: There are 594 chapters after Psalm 118. Add these numbers up and you get Which chapter is in the center? (Psalm 118) What is the center verse in the Bible? (Psalm118:8) Does this verse say something significant about God s perfect will for our lives? The next time someone says they would like to find God s perfect will for their lives and they want to be in the center of His will, send them to the center of His word Psalm118:8: It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. Now isn t that odd how this worked out (or was God in the center of it)? Pastor Mick Sprengeler PAUSE A MOMENT There is no special time for prayer, One can pray 'most anywhere. When things aren't going quite your way, If everything seems to bother you, And nag at you the whole day through. To dispel those awful clouds of gray, If there is not hope in sight, You see the tunnel but not the light. Do not wander, do not stray, When all your efforts seem in vain, You struggle hard but see no gain. Do one thing without delay, When you feel there is no hope, When with life you cannot cope. God will help along the way, By Joseph Ferrara

2 Page 2 Solid Rock Fall is upon us once again. Another year has come and will soon be gone. We sure have a lot to be thankful for. This year we marked the 500 th year of the Lutheran Reformation. It seems hard to believe. Many rulers have come and gone. We have been through two world wars. In fact much has changed across the globe over the past 500 years. However, no matter how much change has occurred, one thing has remained constant, God s Word. God s Word has always been there for us. No matter how much we as man want to change the world around us, God s Word will be the one constant in our lives. No matter how hard we try, the Word will be the one solid rock amongst the shifting sands of our lives. What a great comfort this is for us. No matter how uncertain the future is, we know that the Word will be there to sustain us. Thanks be to God. Now thank we all our God With Heart and hands and voices, Who wondrous things hath done, In whom His world rejoices; Who from our mother s arms Hath blessed us on our way With countless gifts of love And still is ours today. (Martin Rinckart, TLH 36) HOLY SPIRIT: LEAD ME WHERE YOU WANT ME TO GO TODAY, INTRODUCE ME TO THOSE YOU WANT ME TO MEET, PROMPT ME TO SAY WHAT YOU WANT ME TO SAY, AND THEN, HELP ME GET OUT OF YOUR WAY SO THAT YOU CAN WORK YOUR MIRACLE OF LIFE. AMEN

3 Page 3 The Box Some Christians believe, and I was taught You could track Christian growth, like the stock that you bought Your spiritual growth, let s make it clear Not the growth of your body, you see in the mirror If we trust in God, our graph just rises If we trust in ourselves, we see some surprises The graph then has, its ups and downs You could almost track your smiles and frowns If you just go to church and don t get involved Your graph will go flat and nothing is solved The bottom of the box, is important indeed If you violate that, you re in dire need In need of a change in the way you are living A stronger commitment to faith and believing So stay in the box, and keep your graph rising The effect on others, can be quite surprising Anonymous An upward trend is what you need Just trust in God and you ll succeed Now picture this graph, as it were, in a box It s telling a story, as though it talks Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For by grace you have been saved, through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. od s ICHES T HRIST S XPENSE November s newsletter reflects on giving thanks. We are fast approaching this festival of thanksgiving. In addition, December we celebrate the magnificent wonderful festivity of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Lindquist family gives praise and thanksgiving for all of our wonderful blessings, and particularly for the free gift of eternal life. Moreover, we especially give thanks to our Father for His cherished gift of Peace Lutheran Church and School. We ask that all of our members, teachers, staff, and students, pray and continue to share God s GRACE with everybody. Particularity, throughout these next few months as we continue to strive to work together as a family during this time of transition and always. Praise the Lord! For our Peace Lutheran Church and School!. Irene Lindquist

The Lutheran Women in Mission will once again be selling $25 Flowers to Go Flower Cards that will entitle the recipient to go to any of the local Flowers to Go locations and pick up a free bouquet each and every month! For every card sold, the Lutheran Women in Mission will earn $10 to support their Mission Projects. If you want to make someone really happy, pick yours up today! Contact any of the Women in Mission or the church office to purchase your cards. Community of Christ at Memorial Lutheran Church has extended an invitation to the ladies of Peace Lutheran to join them for a Bible study from the LWML Quarterly on Tuesday, November 14th at 9:30 am. Please bring your Fall 2017 Quarterly with you. They will be doing the Bible study on page 24 called "Serve the Lord with Gladness! Come into His Courts with Thanksgiving! by Sheila Lutz. This Bible study will teach us that in the quiet times with God, we can seek His face and know what gives us joy. When we rejoice, what a sound there can be! Please RSVP at Thank You, Nancy Van Buskirk Our youth represent the future of our church and our nation! In our effort to remain connected to our young adults away in either the military or college, we pack goodie boxes to send them each Christmas. Here is how you can help: 1) Providing names & current addresses of Young Adults away in college or the military. It is very important that we receive addresses even for those we have sent to in the past. The cost of postage is too high to assume the address we have is correct, pay to ship a package only to have to pay return postage and then ship it again! 2) Donate items for the boxes: Snacks Popcorn Crackers Cocoa Tea Cider Ramen Candy Gum Individually wrapped packages of: Homemade cookies (empty frosting containers make great packing vessels) Small gift items We invite you to place your donations in the box in the narthex and then join us for our monthly Ladies Fellowship Potluck Brunch plus a packing party on November 18 at 10:00 am.

6 Page 6 Join your Peace Family in a special Thanksgiving Feast on November 19th at 12:30 PM in the Parish Hall, Bring a salad, side-dish, or dessert and we will fellowship together with great food and fun for the family. We pray you will please join us for this great Thanksgiving celebration! Thank You, Veterans! On Veterans Day, we honor men and women who ve served and sacrificed in one of America s armed services. On November 11, 1918, America and her allies signed a truce with German leaders, ending World War I. In 1919, President Wilson decided the United States should remember with gratitude the end of that war and honor military members by marking Armistice Day, or truce day. In 1954, Congress changed the name to Veterans Day, honoring veterans of every era. Veterans Day highlights our country s quest for peace, justice and freedom throughout the world. Followers of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, pray for unity among all nations and for the day when nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore (Isaiah 2:4, NIV). The Cub Scouts of Pack 4506 have a BUSY and FUN November planned! We'll begin with our Holiday food drive to benefit Backpacks for Kids, collecting items in both November and December to help supplement the needs of kids during their 2 week Christmas school break. We'll provide help cleaning up the grounds and placing flags at Ivy Green Cemetery in preparation for Veterans Day. We'll do our part for Church Cleanup on Friday November 10th. To celebrate another successful popcorn fundraiser season, (thank you for your support) we're having a pool party! Finally, we're attending a concert of Navy Band Northwest at the Keyport Naval Undersea Museum. Thanks for your continued support of our Cub Scouts! Should you ever have any questions, please ask Cathy Bonsell A wake-up call The good God permits such small evils to befall us merely in order to arouse us snorers from our deep sleep and to make us recognize, on the other hand, the incomparable and innumerable benefits we still have. With [our misfortunes], God gives us a light by which we may see and understand his goodness and kindness in countless other ways. Then we conclude that such small misfortunes are barely a drop of water on a big fire or a little spark in the ocean. Then we understand and love the words: O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever! Martin Luther

7 Page 7 We Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart Our Father in heaven has claimed us as His own. By the shedding of His Son s blood, by the His death for our sins and His resurrection for our justification, God the Father has received us back into His family. By water combined with His Word, promise, and name, the Holy Spirit has taken up residence in us. We belong to Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is in us, and we are in Him. And being in Him, all things are ours. In Him, we are richly and abundantly blessed. Our true treasure and wealth is that we belong to the most holy Trinity and everything that is His belongs also to us: righteousness, peace, eternal life. Even our temporal treasures are gifts from His fatherly divine goodness and mercy. We receive our treasures from Him, and thus, as (good stewards of His varied grace,) (1 Peter 4:10) we manage them in such a way that they may be returned to Him. We bring them to Him, hallowed through prayers of thanksgiving and God s holy Word, as an offering. Thus, all our possessions, as gifts from God, are also offerings to Him, from which we eat to nourish our bodies, share with our family, neighbors, and fellow Christians, with the poor and even our enemies, as holy things given by the holy God. His temporal gifts are blessings to and for us, and bring blessing upon us even as they are pressed into His service for His kingdom and the souls that receive them. Thus we place all that we have into God s hands, and He never fails to remember us and pours out the fullness of His promises upon us. We give thanks for all that He has done, is doing, and will continue to do. We give thanks by not taking for ourselves, but giving to all even as our heavenly Father has given to us. As we prepare for the celebrations of Thanksgiving, may we all give thanks continually for all that we are and all that we have because of God s providential care. And may we be all the more diligent in bringing everything that we have received from God to Him, so that He may bless it and employ it for the good of all even for us. For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance (Matthew 13:12). Give Thanks by Don Moen Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks to the Holy One Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks to the Holy One Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son And now let the weak say, "I am strong" Let the poor say, "I am rich Because of what the Lord has done for us" And now let the weak say, "I am strong" Let the poor say, "I am rich Because of what the Lord has done for us" Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks to the Holy One Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks to the Holy One Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son And now let the weak say, "I am strong" Let the poor say, "I am rich Because of what the Lord has done for us" We give thanks to You oh Lord We give thanks

8 Page 8 This year s fourth graders have been working hard to grow in their knowledge and understanding, not just of academia but also of our Lord and Savior. Over these past few months, they have been challenged in new ways. Together they have risen up to meet those educational and social changes. This week and coming month, they face even more. Each student will be completing their own essays about what it means to be a veteran for the VFW. This is a contest that kids from Peace have competed in for over a decade. Often our student entries are the selections of the local post which move onto the next level. I am looking forward to sharing their hard work with others. November 1 st will be the first chapel of the month, and fourth grade will be presenting it. Every Wednesday at 8:30 the school has a chapel service, which is often presented by students. Fourth grade would like to invite you to join us for it if you are able. We will also be decorating the school bulletin board next to the fellowship hall for the coming month. After reading a story about a school who had their own newspaper, the class has decided to create one of our own. We hope to have it published before the end of October. There are articles about athletics and important events. There is also one about our school s student council, a comparison of the hurricanes that decimated parts of Florida and Texas, and an expose on dangerous local animals. That is not all though; we also have a comic, weather forecast, poetry, and an article about Minecraft. Lucas Stroud Cheesy Baked Dip 8 oz. sour cream 8 oz. cream cheese 16 oz. cheddar cheese, grated (sharp or mild) 4 oz. chopped green chilies Green onion (suit your own taste) 1 c. chopped ham (cooked) 1/2 pound chopped bacon (cooked) 1 round bread loaf, hollowed out Mix first seven ingredients together and put into the hollowed out bread loaf. Bake at 350 degrees uncovered for one hour (no, this isn't too long - trust me!). Serve with leftover bread or chips...
