Peace and good! As we enjoy the last weeks of summer and the youth of our parish prepare for another school/academic year, we prepare for a fresh start. When Father Chris Dobson, TOR and I were young friars in formation, he would remind me that we were products of the Star Trek and Star Wars generation. This generation would challenge us: Let us explore strange new worlds, let us seek out new life and new civilizations, and let us boldly go where no one has gone before. I must admit that I was never a Star Trek and Star Wars fan. But I did enjoy the lines from these shows that Father Chris would share with me. No matter what generation we experience, it is time to be bold and it is time to go forward with Christ. Keep in mind that just a generation ago the world of cyber-space was new and unknown as was life on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and What s App. As we enjoy the last weeks of summer and the youth of our parish prepare for another school/academic year, it is time for us to think about the newness of life which awaits us. Each day we are invited to reflect upon how we embrace the new that God places before us. Perhaps it would be useful to reflect upon the words from the Prophet Isaiah: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares our God (Is. 55:8-9). Pope Francis (2013) offers us the following insights: Newness always makes us a bit fearful, because we feel more secure if we have everything under control, if we are the ones who build, program and plan our lives in accordance with our own ideas, our own comfort, and our own preferences. This is also the case when it comes to God. Often we follow God, we accept God, but only up to a certain point. It is hard to abandon ourselves to God with complete trust, allowing the Holy Spirit to be the soul and guide of our lives in our every decision. We fear that God may force us to strike out on new paths and leave behind our all too narrow, closed and selfish horizons in order to become open to his own. Yet throughout the history of salvation, whenever God reveals Godself, God brings newness - God always brings newness The newness which God brings into our life is something that actually brings fulfilment, that gives true joy, true serenity, because God loves us and desires only our good. Let us ask ourselves today: Are we open to God s surprises? Or are we closed and fearful be- Fore the newness of the Holy Spirit? Do we have the courage to strike out along the new paths which God s newness sets before us, or do we resist, barricaded in transient structures which have lost their capacity for openness to what is new? The Office of Religious Education is now accepting registrations for rising Preschool children through Adults for those who wish to learn (more) about the Catholic Faith as well as those who need to prepare to receive sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation, and/or First Holy Communion). Little Messengers is a Catholic Preschool Co-Op for children ages 2 1/2-5 years old that meets in the St. Joseph Catholic Church meeting rooms on Tuesday mornings during the school year. Parents or caregivers participate fully in leading various activities for the children, including a nursery for younger siblings. (This is not a drop-off!) Diocesan Child Protection Certification is required for participating adults. There is a nominal supply fee.
