2 Dear Partners in Ministry, Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ. I pray that you have had a blessed summer. This is my favorite season. I love warm weather and the opportunity it brings to enjoy the beauty of God s creation through outdoor activities. This has been a great time of spiritual renewal for me personally to have time to vacation with family and prayerful discern God s direction for our ministry as a Regional Church. I continue to be excited about the vision we have in the Christian Church in Ohio. God is calling us to be: A covenant network of congregations in mission: We are the Body of Christ gifted and called in covenant together as Disciples of Christ to be centers of transformation on the new mission frontier of our own communities You have heard me say before that I am convinced we are living at a threshold time. We are living at the threshold of a world changing at blinding speed. As people of faith and as congregations, we now find ourselves in very challenging economic times. The Regional Church is being very proactive and intentional in facing our challenge. We are tighten our belt through cutting cost by deliberate expense management, salary adjustments and efficient use of our resources. However, we are committed to not to compromise our vision and mission with a survival mentality. For, this is a great time to be a member of the Christian Church in Ohio. Even now in this time of transition, now in these financial uncertain times; I realize that God is just giving us the opportunity to develop a new discipline of stewardship, which will prepare us to do so much more with less. There is a song that is a part of the African-American faith tradition that says: Do you have any rivers that seem uncross-able? Do you have any mountains that you just can t tunnel through? God specializes in things that seem impossible. And God can do what no other power, Holy Ghost power can do. Especially now, this is a great time to be a Disciple. For I believe God is getting us ready for a great day, in which we will experience the Holy Spirit in miraculous ways. For I am convinced, that we are living in an unprecedented time of potential blessing and power. This is a great time to be a Disciple. We call ourselves disciples, as pilgrims on the way. We seek the truth in wisdom and beauty in each day. As women, men and children, we serve, Christ s path to clear. In joyful expectation we see God reign draw near. I would like to invite the Christian Church in Ohio into a season of prayer. Prayer must be the spiritual foundation for the work of transformation God is calling us to do. I hope it can be said that Disciples in Ohio are rooted in prayer. I believe that God is calling our regional church to be identified as a praying church. A praying church is a vital church, a committed church. I look forward with great anticipation of what God will do through us as ministers of the Gospel and leaders in Christ s church in the days ahead. May God s Blessings be with you, Bill Regional Pastor and President Christian Church in Ohio

24 Spiritual Life Silent Retreat Paths to the Holy October 26-30, 2009 Camp Christian Retreat Leader: Reverend Carol P. Vaccariello D. Min, LPC Paths to the Holy is an opportunity to step into an alternative reality of quiet, inner reflection and inner work. It is a time to rest and be refreshed. A time to remember and recall who you are and what you are doing with your wild and precious life. Mary Oliver, The Summer Day Have you ever considered a Silent Retreat? Does it sound awesome to actually claim some quiet and sacred inner time to listen to the still small voice of Spirit? Are you secretly afraid that there will be no voice or is it that you would rather not hear after all you are already too busy. In October there is a very special opportunity being offered for our clergy and spiritual leaders. Carol Vaccariello will be our retreat leader. She has vast experience in spirituality and spiritual direction. This retreat time will begin with YOU dreaming the theme of your Silent Retreat and then applying your time during the week to your inner silence. Reverend Doctor Carol Vaccariello and other spiritual directors will be available to assist you in your deep process. Begins on October 26 th, Monday at 1:00 p.m. with registration. Closing will be at noon on October 30 th, Friday. Open to Clergy and Spiritual Leaders and anyone that the Spirits urges to attend. Included in the $295 fee: Overnight accommodations at the Herald B. Monroe Lodge for four nights. All meals (12 total) beginning with dinner on Monday and ending with a box lunch on Friday for those who want to leave immediately after the closing ritual. There is a single supplement for anyone who would like a private room of $ One private Spiritual Direction Session is included in your registration fee. This is a $25.00 value. Additional Sessions are available throughout the week for $25.00 per half hour. There will be a list of directors available at registration. You may choose your director. You may want to plan to have a session each day so that you can explore the different styles of the directors who will be available. Use this time and this opportunity to the fullest. There will also be a Massage Therapist and a Reiki Practitioner available during the week. These services are provided at an additional fee. Names and sign up lists will be available at the Registration Desk when you check in. There is so much more that cannot be shared in words, but only through experience. Come and give yourself the gift of TIME to REST IN THE HOLY. More information, including how to register, coming soon!!!
