The goal of this event is to strengthen the discipleship arm of our churches. There will be workshops for preschool leaders, children leaders, adults, university leaders, Sunday School leaders, small group leaders, general officers, and pastors. 2 Mission Minded Notes from the Director of Missions Steve Holcombe at Kite Flying and Raising Kids If you are going to fly a kite you must let out the string! That was my thought one day as I passed by an elementary school. The children were all outside on the lawn. It must have been kite day. One first or second grader was running the length of the grassy field as fast as her little legs could carry her. She was not looking back, but kept her eyes glued to the path ahead. In her right hand was the ball of string and behind her was her prized possession a beautiful blue kite. Her goal? To get that kite up into the sky! There was only one problem. As she ran she never let out any string. Any veteran kite-flyer knows that in order to get that colorful kite up into the beautiful blue you must not tote the twine.you have to let out the string. Instead the kite waved and struggled behind her. I passed by in one fleeting moment only to say to myself, Let out the string let out the string! As I looked in my rear view mirror I caught a glimpse of her as she arrived at the end of her grassy path without success. When she stopped, the kite that had been following her like a giant shadow laid lifeless at her feet. I thought to myself.parenting is like flying a kite. Our goal to get those children to the point where they can manage life. However, if we never let out the string the children will never fly. In the parable of the prodigal son, Jesus tells us that the wise father knew it was time to let out the string. He knew his son would never be able to stand on his own two feet if dad always micro-managed his life. So as you lead your kids through their lives make it a regular occurrence to impart to them certain responsibilities (kite string). As they get older, they will begin to learn to fly! First BC Hempstead will have a Sportsman s Fellowship with Interna onal Big Game Hunter and Speaker, Paige Pa erson, for men and boys, Saturday, March 28 at 7:00pm. Trinity BC s Special Needs Apprecia on Day will be Sunday March 15 during the 11:00am worship service. The Special Needs members will lead in the worship. Waller BC have been par cipa ng in a community event for food collec on called WARM (Waller Assistance & Restora on Ministries). Their goal is one ton and have collected 1550 pounds. Aggie Bap st Student Ministry Joel Bratcher, Director joel@aggiebsm.org We are thankful that 125 Interna onal students have been matched up with American conversa on partners from our BSM and area churches this year. These rela onships o en open the door for the Americans to share Christ in a very natural way. Jia is from China and is one of our newest conversa on partners. He is an exchange graduate student in the Bush School of Government. He began reading the Gospel of John with his conversa on partner three weeks ago. In spite of growing up in an officially atheis c country, Jia arrived at Texas A&M with a strong curiosity about God. At one of our first lunches of the semester, his conversa on partner realized that God was moving in Jia s life and invited him to study the Bible together. At the first mee ng, Jia had already read the en re book of John. He is enjoying learning about Jesus and has excellent ques ons each week during their one-on-one Bible study. Please pray that Jia and other Interna onal students who are studying the Bible and a ending church weekly with their conversa on partners will come to faith. Student who we are praying for: Two sisters from San Antonio, Rose and Pearl, are in BSM small groups. Both seem very close to following Christ. We were able to give each lady a DVD of the Jesus film at Christmas. We work mainly with donated items. We have over 170 women and a few men signed up for classes this spring.
