2 Mission Minded Notes from the Director of Missions Steve Holcombe at Are you a spork or a foon? Susan and I opened the door and walked inside. Our thoughts were focused on one thing CHICKEN! We had arrived at the local KFC and we were RTE (ready to eat). We both placed our orders and later sat down to eat. Everything was going fine until I opened my cellophane wrapper containing my silverware. I had expected at least a plastic spoon and fork and maybe even a plastic knife if I were lucky. But no such was not to be the case. There was only ONE utensil in the cellophane wrapper! It was a strange looking critter to say the least. It had the resemblance of a gene mutant from some plastic silverware factory. Indeed it was not a spoon and it was not a fork. But yet it WAS a spoon and it WAS a fork. It was a spork or maybe a foon. It was the vile attempt of some madman living in the KFC ivory tower to save money. I grew absolutely frustrated as I attempted to pick up my green beans with my spork. Instead of gathering them into my beleaguered mouth, the spork cut them in half falling helplessly onto my plastic plate. As I tried to eat, I thought of one thing. My spork reminded me of many Christians trying to be too many things to too many people. Instead of being clear in our message to this world as believers in Christ we often are like sporks. Jesus told us to let our no be no and our yes be yes. He was speaking of clarity. I believe our Lord would say to each one of us don t be a spork or a foon. Stand up and speak clearly what the Lord has done! Steve Please Remember to Pray for: Minister Needs Fellowship at Field Store ~ P/T Minister of Students Reliance BC ~ Children s Church Minister Wellborn BC ~ P/T Youth Minister ~P/T Children s Minister ~P/T Nursery Minister

Jason Horine at Aggie Bap st Student Ministry Joel Bratcher, Director joel@aggiebsm.org God is blessing the start of a new school year. Over 300 students have been part of small group Bible studies on Thursday nights. Fi y American students are ministering to Interna- onal students this fall. Three Chinese students have become Chris ans in recent weeks. They have been involved over the past year. Our students have also begun four discovery Bible studies for Interna onals. One of these is for Indian students living in Northgate. We are having good groups of Indian students coming to lunch and other events. Texas A&M has approximately 1,000 Indian students. Almost all are Hindu or Muslim. Our work at Blinn College in Bryan is going well. Approximately 60 different students have a ended either our Monday or Tuesday lunch Bible studies during the first weeks of class. We do outreach and evangelism each week at Blinn. Many of the Blinn students become involved in other BSM ministries. A team of twenty-seven from our BSM served in Baton Rouge during a weekend mission trip. We assisted flood vic ms by gu ng out homes. Our students worked hard and had some fantas c opportuni es to share Christ with home owners who were touched by the prac cal help they had received.

6 Discovery is celebrating 50 years of ministry to International women and their children on December 7 with a Christmas Tea!!! Paul writes about the good works that God prepares in advance for us to work in for Him (Eph 2:10). Discovery is our own Southern Baptist good work that God gave us 50 years ago! He continues to bless this ministry as we had over 400 International women come last year for classes in English, sewing, piano, knitting, crafts, crochet, cupcakes, Bible, quilting, and more. Many, many times God said that true religion was to take care of widows and orphans, and the Internationals that lived among us. We are seed planters just like Paul. Each week they hear a portion of the Bible. We need your help in continuing to bless the ladies God sends to us. We need your gracious help in putting out the word about our Discovery ministry, which is supported monetarily by FBC, Bryan, FBC College Station, and Central Baptist, Bryan and which needs more teachers, helpers, and nursery workers, and someone who can oil and check out sewing machines. We also need your prayers for continued blessings, protection, and guidance. If you need a mission program, please call me and I would love to come and show pictures of Discovery and other ladies from 39 countries. I am also including a list of supplies that we continually need and would appreciate your church, ladies or children organizations collecting any of the following items to donate to Discovery as a mission project. The following Top 10 Needs List provides you with a way to donate items and give your time by being involved with the Discovery Ministry. 10. Sewing machines in working condition 9. Sewing supplies and fabric 8. Magazines for ladies and Books for children 7. Bud vases 6. Baby quilts and blankets 5. Craft and art supplies 4. Large and small gift bags 3. Hotel or travel size soaps, shampoos, etc. 2. Tea and coffee mugs 1. Volunteers for nursery and children s workers Please feel free to call me with any questions at May God bless all your mission endeavers, Melinda Hallmark Director
