2 KINGDOM CHALLENGE by Donny Cortimilia I had a last minute change to this article because I watched the movie, The Insanity of God last night. The theatre was packed, standing room only. I had read the book, seen the movie once, heard the storyteller in the movie tell the stories, but still I was moved to tears. Not only moved to tears, but left with the question in my life, What is God worth to me? or What would I be willing to give up to follow Him? The movie portrayed some of the stories in the book. It told of how two missionaries, Nik and Ruth, left the comfortable confines of Kentucky to live and work in the Horn of Africa. I know of their steps along the way. Some steps were easy and appealing; other steps were difficult and tortuous. They watched friends die at the hands of those Satan sent to squelch a movement. They watched their own son die because they lived in an area not equipped medically to handle illness. What have my children seen in me? Have they seen a man that really puts God first? I remember as we were preparing to move to Africa and as we would go to churches to speak about our time in Africa that people would ask, What are you doing? We have lost people in America too. Are you taking your children? (Before we left we started telling people, No, we are looking for someone to give them to. Would you like them? ) I remember one man getting on to me at a church meeting when we were on a furlough. He told me that to take my children to a third world country when they could and should be living in the USA was wrong. He ask me how I could justify such a thing. I don t remember what I answered. I hope it was nice because honestly right now I cannot think of anything nice I would say. I know many people prayed for us during our eighteen years on the mission field. I know there are many who would have liked to have gone in my place, but for whatever reason they could not. But how may could go that never even considered it because of the difficulties they see? There is a commercial on television right now that shows what people suffer when their internet is down. We have such difficulties sometimes when they are doing maintenance on a road and we are detoured. I have a train that halts me about once a week and always, always at the most inconvenient time. I get mad at people that are in the right hand lane at a stoplight and they are not turning right!!!!! For sure we have inconveniences in daily life. However, let s not fool ourselves. I know that I have had life so easy. I was never imprisoned, beaten, or threatened. I don t know what it is like to have my family go hungry, cold or live without me. I don t know what it is like to not have a Bible at my disposal or a group of likeminded believers around me. I don t know what it is like to worship God with the threat of the police or military entering the building to stop it. If you have seen the movie or read the book you can relate to what I am saying. If you have not read the book, then read it! It will change your life. It will change your perspective on life. It will make you ask, What is God worth to me? The stories in the book are true. They are mind boggling tales of faith and strength with which I cannot fully comprehend because I have not walk their walk. Nik said in the book that he was often asked if persecution was coming to America. His response is this, why would Satan want to wake us up when he has already shut us up? Satan s goal is to keep people from a relationship with God. By our silence we are aiding him. Why are others persecuted? Nik asks. Perhaps, he says, the better question is: Why are we not? Where did summer go? Baptist Student Ministry had a great summer. Two students served with the North American Mission Board (NAMB) with their GenSend program in one of the SEND cities for which Southern Baptists are praying and emphasizing evangelism and renewal. College aged adults gathered for fellowship in our home, and thirteen college students went to Glorieta for Collegiate Week. The past two weeks we have been planning hard for the ministry on the Midland College and UTPB campuses. Students have prayer walked the campus, and will again. Would you consider taking a group or just going alone and prayer walking one of the colleges in our region (OC, MC or UTPB)? Praying on site with insight is a great way to remind you to pray later, and to help create a burden for college students in your life. Most of all, seeking God s favor on their behalf will help to loosen the mouths of the believers on the campuses and will prepare the hearts of those who need to hear the good news. It is an indispensable tool in our ministry/outreach tool box. With the growth of UTPB and the linking of all UT campuses to the same rules and regulations it has become much more difficult to jump through the hoops in a timely fashion. So while it is good that the school has grown so much, we have lost some of the personal touch that we have enjoyed in the past. With that said we do have permission for lunches on both campuses. UTPB will have lunch every Wednesday at noon on the second floor of the Mesa Building and MC will have lunch every Thursday at 12:21 in the Club Room of the Scharbauer Student Center. YOUR CHURCH OR SUN- DAY SCHOOL GROUP CAN HELP! IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PROVIDE A LUNCH FOR EITHER OR BOTH CAMPUSES TEXT OR CALL At Midland College we expect 20 students and at UTPB around 80 students. We will have worship & Bible study on Thursday nights at UTPB starting at 7:30 pm. BSM students also plan to lead small group studies in various/dorm settings, and other activities will be kicking off as well. Pray for many students to encounter the Word of God this year. For worship and study at Midland College we are praying about a week night or the possibility of meeting at various local churches on a rotation in order to gather on Sunday evening. MC is unavailable on Sunday evening. Pray that the Lord leads us as we decide and seek facilities. As always, pray for favor from the administration of the schools. Please remember to regularly PRAY FOR THE BSM MINISTRY. PRAY FOR SOULS TO BE ADDED TO THE KINGDOM. PRAY FOR LIVES TO BE CHANGED ON THE CAMPUSES. PRAY FOR A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING ON THE CAMPUSES TO IGNITE A FIRE OF REVIV- AL THAT WILL SWEEP ACROSS THE CHURCHES OF THE PERMIAN BASIN, THROUGH- OUT TEXAS AND OUR NATION. Thank you for taking time to read this article, praying for BSM and college students and hopefully acting on BSM needs. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. I sanctify Myself for them, so they also may be sanctified by the truth. I pray not only for these, but also for those who believe in Me through their message. May they all be one, as You, Father, are in Me and I am in You. May they also be one in Us, so the world may believe You sent Me. John 17:18-21 (HCSB) tammy
