4 8:00 am Prayer Time CARIBBEAN B 9:00-10 am Seminars (both men and women are invited) 1. Identifying and Developing Leaders: Jim Jeffery MEDITERRANEAN B 2. Current Theological Trends and Fads: Kevin Zuber MEDITERRANEAN C 10-11:30 am Informal Fellowship and check out Convention Seminar Descriptions WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26, 10:30 am to Noon (both men and women are invited) Reach: Effective Evangelistic Outreach WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26, 10:30 A.M. CARIBBEAN C Paul Seger Paul is General Director of Biblical Ministries Worldwide. This seminar will ask if your evangelistic outreach aligns with your stated commitment to reaching the lost. This seminar will be presented by a panel who are actively involved in evangelism. The format will be interview, dialogue and discussion. You will leave inspired and instructed with a bucket full of ideas to expand your own personal evangelism and your church s outreach. You will also learn how IFCA Harvesters can enhance the outward focus of your congregation. Teach: Children - Building Disciples For Life WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26, 10:30 A.M. CARIBBEAN B Mark Steiner & Dick Crider Mark and Dick are with DiscipleLand children s ministry which seeks to help churches disciple children. Workshop participants will identify six magnets that sway the hearts of children; outline Jesus tried-and-true discipleship strategy; and establish a personal discipleship action plan based on Christ s model (Phase 1 - Get started with your disciple or small band of followers and Phase 2 - Go further up and further in with children). Preach: Preparing The Expository Sermon WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26, 10:30 A.M. MEDITERRANEAN C Alex Montoya Alex is a full time Senior Pastor and just retired as full time homiletics professor at The Master s Seminary. This seminar will focus on the composition of the expository sermon in the aspects of preparing the sermon to be delivered effectively. It is the movement from exegesis to exposition that will be covered. The seminar will cover from the construction of the sermon to the type of manuscript a preacher takes into the pulpit. Plant: Assessing Church Health Panel Discussion WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26, 10:30 A.M. MEDITERRANEAN B Henry Vosburgh, Paul Williamson, Dan Fredericks, Bob Cosby These are four highly experienced local church consultants. This seminar will explore church health. We have all heard - and perhaps used - the clichéd statement: It s easier to give birth than it is to resurrect the dead. Given the unhealthy condition of so many churches today, even within our own IFCA fellowship, it may be that this cliché is to be heard more and more. However, is the issue of life or death for a church s presence within its community so easily summarized? This panel will entertain questions relative to the issues of spiritual survival and vitality in times like those we face today. Lead: The Struggle For Balance In The Pastor s Life WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26, 10:30 A.M. FLORIDA BAY 1 Chip Birch Chip is Senior Pastor at Southwest Community Church of Miami and has four decades of local church experience. This seminar is about balance: A well balanced pastor, you ve got to be kidding! Weekly church responsibilities can fill the life of a pastor! And if that is not enough, add these to your must do list: wife, children, parents, family, elders, leaders, deacons, visitors, seekers, the sick, aged, youth, missionaries, friends, learners, staff, the dying, and Facebook connections! I am still struggling to get it right, how about you?
5 Women: How To Teach Woman s Bible Study WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26, 10:30 A.M. FLORIDA BAY 2 Martha Spacek Martha is married to Steve Spacek, General Director of Help Ministries which provides ministry assistance to independent churches. This seminar will emphasize the importance of women s Bible studies. It will inspire you to create your own interactive Bible studies, and will demonstrate how to teach or facilitate them. As we do a walk-through of an actual Bible study, there will be time for questions and sharing. THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 8:30 am to 10:00 am (both men and women are invited) Reach: Effective Evangelistic Outreach THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 8:30 A.M. Teach: Children - Building Disciples For Life THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 8:30 A.M. Preach: Preaching And Teaching With Persuasion THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 8:30 A.M. MEDITERRANEAN C Alex Montoya Alex is a full time Senior Pastor and just retired as full time professor at The Master s Seminary. This seminar will focus on the delivery of the sermon or lesson with an emphasis on persuasion. The elements in a persuasive sermon or lesson will be identified and incorporated into the construction and delivery of a persuasive expository sermon. It will focus both on content and style of a persuasive sermon. Plant: Creating Vision For Your Church Or Church Plant THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 8:30 A.M. MEDITERRANEAN B Roy Sprague Roy served 30 years as General Director of Northwest Independent Church Extension. This seminar will address the importance, definition, development and communication of your church s vision. Vision is that sanctified imagination that sees what can be done by the power of God. Theology: The Issue Of Cessationism Today THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 8:30 A.M. FLORIDA BAY 1 Gary Gilley Gary is Senior Pastor of Southern View Chapel of Springfield, IL and a prolific writer. Despite the fact that the majority of conservative evangelical Christians since the Reformation have held to a cessationist position with regard to divine revelation, true cessationists are rapidly disappearing. Due to the influence of a multitude of popular authors, theologians and conference speakers, cessationism is barely treading water, even within the most biblically solid churches and organizations. This seminar is a defense of biblical cessationism. Women: Accepting Your Unwanted Assignments THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 8:30 A.M. FLORIDA BAY 2 Marcia Hornok Marcia is married to Ken Hornok, Pastor of Midvalley Bible Church of Salt Lake City. We women in ministry are used to sacrificing. We know that suffering produces holiness, and our primary desire is to glorify God. But He sometimes avalanches us with events and outcomes that permanently change everything. When God does the incomprehensible, will we submit or become bitter and resentful?
6 FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 9:00 am to10:00 am (both men and women are invited) Lead: Identifying And Developing Leaders FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 9:00 A.M. MEDITERRANEAN B Jim Jeffery Dr. Jim Jeffery is President of Baptist Bible College & Seminary in Clarks Summit, PA. He is an experienced pastor and leader of Christian organizations who knows that the ministry of the church and the advancement of the gospel require reproducing spiritual leaders. Learn how to develop leaders as an overall discipleship strategy for the church. Discover how to see the essential roots and fruits of spiritual leadership. Gain insights on how busy pastors can make this a functional priority in their spiritual leadership of the church. Experience the joy of mentoring and the impact of multiplying your ministry! Theology: Current Trends & Fads FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 9:00 A.M. MEDITERRANEAN C Kevin Zuber Dr. Kevin Zuber is Professor of Theology at Moody Bible Institute who also serves as an IFCA church planter in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. He will discuss current theological trends that IFCA men need to be aware of. He will also answer the questions: Why do churches get caught up in fads? Why and how should we avoid them?
