1 Issue 23 /10 July 2013 Message 1 News 2 Personnel 3 Info 4 Prayer Page 5 Events 6 OUR 7 MISSION PRIORITIES We will do whatever it takes to see: 1. A territory marked by prayer and holiness 2. Every place involved in evangelism 3. Corps healthy and multiplying 4. Our people equipped and empowered to serve the world 5. Passionate about bringing children to Jesus 6. Youth trained and sent out to frontline mission 7. Significant increase of new soldiers and officers. ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD! Being a bit of a formula one racing fan, I was watching a few YouTube videos on Mark Webber (Australian F1 driver). He made a comment about the Australian national emblem which I had never heard before. He said, The reason why the Australian national emblem has an Emu and Kangaroo on it is because those two animals can t walk backwards. This, of course, means they can only move forward. What a great concept for a country to adopt. It s not about neglecting our past and heritage, but about embracing who we are and moving forward. This same concept can be used in our own personal lives and our ministry. There are always things that will make it hard to move forward. Personal hurts, pain, unforgiven sin, selfishness and even people. But we need to remember Jesus words in Luke 9: As they were going along the road, someone said to him, I will follow you wherever you go. And Jesus said to him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head. To another he said, Follow me. But he said, Lord, let me first go and bury my father. And Jesus said to him, Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God. Yet another said, I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home. Jesus said to him, No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God. Here, Jesus is firstly giving a realistic picture of how hard it can be moving forward with Christ (nowhere to lay his head). Secondly; if we try we can always come up with excuses (let me bury my father) and thirdly; if we are prepared to move forward, don t look back! Easier said than done right? The wonderful thing for us is that we serve a God who knows us and our struggles, and is always there to help us move. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. God was reassuring the Hebrew nation of Judah with these words. Because we are also loved by God, we can be assured that God knows our future, and we can trust Him with it, however hard it may seem. So let s trust God and be like Emus and Kangaroos not hopping all over the place and pecking each other but always moving forward! - Envoy Lucas Cairns (Divisional Youth Secretary)
2 CESSNOCK CORPS On Sunday 30 th June, Lieutenant Darryn Lloyd had the privilege of accepting 3 new Adherents. Pictured in centre of photo: Kenny receiving his certificate from Lt. Darryn with new adherents Cindy and Caitlin (Caitlin is Lt. Darryn s daughter) who were enrolled as adherents. Two children were also dedicated on this day. This year on 7 th and 8 th September at Sydney Olympic Park, the Australia Eastern Territory will welcome our territorial leaders Commissioners James and Jan Condon along with Colonels Richard and Janet Munn, as guest speakers at the Freedom Celebration. To hear our leaders speak their God-given messages into this Territory will not only be inspirational, but is sure to excite us into finding freedom for ourselves while being empowered to share it with others in our communities. The Freedom Celebration is our opportunity to showcase who we are as an army and what we are doing in our communities throughout the Territory. We are counting on your support. Pictured in front are Caleb and Krystal. Thank you for promoting the Freedom Celebration at your Corps or Centre and enthusiastically inviting people to attend. Check out the website: salvos.org.au/freedomcelebration Fantastic news for Cessnock! FREEDOM CELEBRATION SENIORS MORNING TEA There will be a Seniors' Morning Tea on Saturday 7th September as part of the Freedom Celebration. Please make this event known to the seniors in your corps or centre. Invitations will be out shortly. This event is open to everyone over 50 years. Please announce this event in your newsletters and from the platform. Seniors will need to register for the event, so when more details come to hand we will forward them on to you. (THQ will need numbers for catering etc.) - Captain Jennifer Stringer
