It s important to say thank you on a regular basis. It makes one feel good! Here are a number of thank you messages I don t want to overlook: a. Thank you for your support of the Building Improvement Fund. Our church basement restrooms are finished - with the exception of a few hooks, deodorizers, and signs. If you didn t see them last weekend, stop by to inspect them! I hope you are pleased! Thanks to all our parishioners and volunteers who helped bring the project to completion. b. Thank you for your donations to the Annual Catholic Appeal this year. We have reached 86% of our goal (same as last year), amounting to $46,360.02, representing gifts from 354 households. Your tax deductible gifts are still accepted until the end of June, should you still wish to donate. c. Thank you to all who have beautified our property by planting and maintaining the flower beds! It s so pleasant to see every day. Beauty is a reflection of God! All glory and honor belongs to Him. Thanks to ALL who maintain our parish church and make it a noble house for worship. d. Thanks to those guys who change our light bulbs in the church and sanctuary. They climb to the heavens only to bring light to those of us who otherwise would be in darkness! e. Thanks to those who have worked so hard to offer a new Parish Pictorial Directory. Many hours went into hosting the company who took pictures, making phone calls, taking individual pictures of those who could not make it to church, and offering designs. f. Thanks to those who take care of our vigil lights to assist in the devotion of our prayer. g. Thanks to those who open the church every morning, devote time and careful attention to the altar linens, and those who take the recyclables out to the dumpster. h. Thanks to all our committees who offer their time and talent for the continued viability of our parish life these committees and groups are too numerous to mention. i. Thanks to our altar servers who show up for weekend Mass! The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has called for a Fortnight for Freedom: Freedom to Bear Witness to the Truth of the Gospel to take place from June 21st to July 4th, The Resurrection Respect for Life Group will have a Prayer Service on June 28th at 3:00 PM at Resurrection Church to join with Dioceses across the United States in this effort. Please join us to pray for freedom in our country. There will also be a Mass offered on June 19th for the Fortnight for Freedom. I Brittany Grove & Seth Siringer VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL NEWS: Join us for Vacation Bible School this year taking place from July 13th-16th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily. This year's theme, "God's Team", will help our little ones come to know different ways that they can live their daily lives to be on "God's Team". There is no cost to attend VBS but a suggested donation of $5.00 per participant is appreciated to help cover the overall cost. We hope to see your little ones this year at VBS to see how they can be a part of "God's Team!" LAST CHANCE, H.S. STUDENTS, to say Y.E.S. The weekend consists of a retreat and service to those in our community. HOURS: 10 to 11 am and 2 to 4 pm. IMPORTANT: Please honor these drop off times. Do not leave your recyclables on the sidewalks or curbs. BLUE BARRELS July 11 & 12 We are still looking for some dedicated adults to help with our PSR Religious Education Program this year. REMINDERS FOR YOUR SAFETY AND OUR EMERGENCIES: Please do not park in back of the rectory garages during weekend Masses. There are times when a priest is called for an emergency at the hospital. If we can t get out, faithful may be deprived of the Last Rites. Remember to LOCK YOUR CARS during weekend Masses. It s for your protection! Do not leave valuables within view of passers-by. Emergency vehicles may need to get to a parishioner, in church, during Mass. Please park within the designated areas. SCHOOL NEWS Summer Office Hours for our schools are as follows: Elementary Summer Hours are 9-1pm until June 26 High School Summer Hours are 9-1pm until June 30 Both school offices will re-open on August 3rd from 9-3 pm. Calling All Graduating College - Bound Seniors! The North Central Ohio Vocations Club is sponsoring College Connections for Catholics. This program connects Freshman with the nearest Mass location plus Campus Ministry. During Freshman Orientation, students will be invited to become part of the Catholic Community at their school. Successful candidates should hold at least a Bachelor's degree in education (a Masters degree is preferred), have at least 5 years teaching experience and be a practicing Catholic. Think about these options: June is the Summer Retreat for High School Men taking place at Holy Angels Parish in Sandusky, Ohio and July is the Summer Retreat for Junior High men at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral Parish in Toledo. This is a retreat for high school men that provides the opportunity for prayer and spiritual formation as well as the chance to meet some of our diocesan seminarians and learn about their call to follow God's will in their lives! The Parish School of Religion Program will be starting a religious education for children who are 5-18 who have special needs. We are interested in speaking to parents of special needs children who are seeking religious education for their child. We will be discussing regular religious instruction as well as sacramental preparation for those of traditional age and past the traditional age. A meeting for all interested parents will be taking place on Tuesday, June 30 th at 6 p.m. in the family room of the parish center. We are also looking for adults who are interested in working with these children in our program. Specialized training is not required but compliance with the diocesan standards to work with children is necessary. JOE JAKUBICK ALL-STAR BASKETBALL CAMP (For Boys in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8) The time is now to become a better basketball player! This camp will focus on fundamental skills of the game. Youngsters will be instructed in all areas of the game including offense, defense, ball handling and much more. The camp is for players of all abilities. $50.00 per camper. They can be dropped off to someone at the kiosk, (while you check our new items) also given to an usher, placed in the collection basket, or at the parish office. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. A little change can make a major change! Please plan to drive by Resurrection Parish to see the Cemetery of the Innocent. The 3500 crosses represent the number of babies that are aborted in the United States DAILY. Continue to pray for an end to abortion. The crosses will be taken down and moved to St. Mary s Parish and remain for 3 weeks. Then we will place them on the property of Deacon John Reef, on Rt. 309, for three weeks. Mr. Bernat studied ecclesiastical painting in Hungary and other countries, and had been a winner of the Prix de Rome. He used parishioners as well as high school students for models for the apostles and Christ as depicted on the ceiling and rear walls. Mr. Bernat was the co-founder of the Mansfield Fine Arts Guild (now Mansfield Art Center.) Martha Milligan Bernat, his wife, carved the Stations of the Cross in basrelief from Philippine mahogany. These stations were highlighted in the redecorating of the church in The first scaffolding for the centennial redecoration was erected on January 25, 1944 and the last removed November 9, With the completion of the redecorating of the church and the return of the men and women from military service, the parish was ready for its centenary celebration November 3, That same year (1946) marked the 75th year that the Joliet Franciscan Sisters taught in St. Peter s School. Picture by A Family Perspective: Just as the apostles in today s Gospel were amazed at the power of Jesus so our children are amazed at our lack of fear of dark rooms or monsters in closets or under beds. As the apostles depended on Jesus, children depend on us to restore quiet to their lives. Getting out of bed at night to quiet a child s fears is the stuff of holiness.
