In this battle between the earthly kingdom and the kingdom of Christ, some of the Cristeros (defenders of Christ) were bribed, Say Death to Christ the King and Save Your Life. Jose Sanchez del Rio and others cried out in the face of death, Vivo Cristo Rey! Long Live Christ the King. This struggle and their martyrdom for Christ is wonderfully depicted in the 2012 film, For Greater Glory. The feast of Christ the King, established around the time of the Mexican Revolution in 1925 by Pope Pius XI, was intended to combat secularism by emphasizing the lordship and the reign of Christ. For centuries The Enlightenment had proposed that a society devoid of God would produce a better situation for humanity than a society founded on divine truths. Philosophies such as Marxism, Communism, and Fascism had attempted to establish societies without God. Pope Pius XI, in the aftermath of this failed project which was evidenced by World War I, created this feast to reorient society toward the only true kingdom possible, the kingdom of Christ. This feast is always the last feast of the liturgical year, emphasizing that Christ s Kingdom will outlast every earthly attempt at power and dominion. While the Lord s reign is certainly present in seminal form in this world wherever Christ and the Church are present, its fullness will be ushered in with the return of Christ at the end of time. As Catholics, we are what are called a-millenialists, meaning that we do not believe, like many Protestant Christians, that Christ will usher in a literal thousand year reign on earth at his coming. Rather, we believe that Christ is already reigning indefinitely through his Church in this world, though the fullness of that reign is yet to be revealed. Our readings today reveal that our King is not power hungry. He is a King that serves, not a sovereign that lords his power over others. Whenever we imitate Christ and serve others, we help to bring about God s kingdom here on earth. Please join us next Sunday in worshipping Christ the King by spending a few moments in Eucharistic Adoration during the afternoon hours. Let us grow together in Christ, Fr. Jeremy Children s Liturgy of the Word - Sunday, November 29 9:30 am Angie 11:30 am Angie Hearts & Minds If you and/or a loved one are struggling with depression or other mental health issues, consider joining us on Tuesday, November 24th after 4:00 p.m. in Assisi Hall for Educating Yourself Helps. Dear Parent(s)/Guardian, SCHOOL NEWS I have served as Pastor of St. Peter s Parish for five years. I am blessed to be here! During that time, I have come to experience the quality Catholic education that our school has to offer. Learning occurs in a disciplined environment, where religious values infuse our Courses of Study. The school community is small enough to respond to the needs of individual students, yet large enough to prepare our young people for the post secondary educational experience and life s challenges. Qualified and dedicated faculty and staff give daily of their time and expertise to help shape an educational environment where each student feels valued and where children learn. We sincerely hope that you will consider St. Peter s School as you select a school for your child(ren). As a young boy, my father reminded me, Education is something that can never be taken from you. Why not consider the best education possible, in a Christian environment, where each person is valued as a son or daughter of God? We are pleased to inform you of the numerous opportunities to visit our campus throughout the year and we encourage you to visit us to see why St. Peter s offers an excellent program and remains a strong, viable presence in our community. Information about St. Peter s School including enrollment events, tuition assistance, State of Ohio School Choice scholarships, and parent and alumni testimonials are available at all doorways of the church. Blessings to you and yours! Sincerely, Very Rev. Gregory R. Hite, M.S., S.T.L. 7 Page 7 St. Peter s Catholic Church, Mansfield, Ohio November 22, 2015 ENTERING INTO FULL COMMUNION WITH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ***We ask that you might share this letter with someone who might meet these criteria and who is interested in entering into full communion with the Catholic Church For years St. Peter s Parish has offered the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This is the process through which those who are not baptized and not catechized enter into full communion with the Church. We have found over the years that we have many baptized Christians in our parish who come to church frequently, have raised or are raising their children in the Catholic faith, and volunteer in various capacities, but who are not full members of the Catholic Church. Due to their involvement and their exposure to the Catholic Church, the full RCIA process may not be the most suitable path for them. The Catholic Church specifically says that for those in this situation, no undue burden should be placed on their entrance into full communion with the Church. For the second year in a row, our parish is offering a special program for those in this situation. It will be a shortened version of the RCIA journey suited for those who have absorbed much of Catholic life and belief over the years. The requirements for participation are: a baptized Christian - this means baptized with water in a Christian congregation according to the Trinitarian formula I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. You will need to prove this through written record or testimony of someone who was present at the baptism. has been exposed to and supportive of the Catholic Church for many years e.g. married to a Catholic, raised your children Catholic, semi-frequent attendance at Mass, etc. is in a valid marriage this means that those in need of an annulment or the Church s blessing of their marriage are not able to enter into full communion until the marriage situation has been resolved. If there are questions about this, we would be happy to help you clarify this matter. The sessions for this special program will be on six Saturday mornings stretching from January through March January 23 & 30, February 13 & 20, and March 5 & 12. We are building in a couple of off weekends so that the schedule is easier to manage. The sessions will begin at 8:30am and take place in the Assisi Room on the fourth floor of the high school building. A light breakfast will be provided. We will be finished each day no later than noon. Since we know the busy-ness of your schedules, we would ask that you attend at least five of the six sessions. You are encouraged to attend all six, but one excused absence is certainly understandable. The goal would be for the participants to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil, March 26, However, entrance into the Church could happen any time following the program if different arrangements need to be made. If you are interested in this process or know someone who might be interested, please invite them with this letter or contact us about reaching out to them. If you have any questions about the program or wish to participate, please contact Fr. Jeremy Miller, at miller.jeremy@myspartans.org, or Lynne Lukach at lukach.lynne@myspartans.org, or call either of us at (419)
