The whole idea of stewardship as with prayer is based on a keen awareness of the interdependence of all these living beings, which are all part of one another, and all involved in one another. We gather to listen for God s word, to discern God s will, to worship with God s people. This day is holy to our Joyful God! We are members of Christ s body, Christ s family, Christ s church. This day is holy to our Powerful God! The Spirit of God is upon us, and we have been anointed to bring good news to all. This day is holy to our Sweet God! May the words in our mouths and the thoughts in our hearts delight you, O God. All Uniting: Let us worship our Holy God! *The Invocation You gather us from our separate lives, Great God, to hear your word and respond to your revealing. You have appointed us for the work of your church. We seek your guidance, your wisdom, your way. Help us to perceive and understand your law, and then to follow you faithfully, as your people. Bind us together with you in worship, and transform us from distinct persons into the Body of Christ, alive with your Spirit in this place. Rather than seeing your love revealed, we feel our own guilt magnified. Instead of rejoicing in your good news, we focus on our own shortcomings. Turn us around, Redeemer, and do not let our fears have dominion over us. Enlighten us, so that our words and deeds may be acceptable to you. I ask your prayers for God's people throughout the world; for Penn Central Conference and for our Conference Minister Monica, for the ministers and staff of our Conference; for this gathering; and for all ministers and people. Pray for the Church. 5 I ask your prayers for peace; for goodwill among nations; and for the well-being of all people. Pray for justice and peace. I ask your prayers for the poor, the sick, the hungry, the oppressed, and those in prison. Pray for those in any need or trouble. I ask your prayers for all who seek God, or a deeper knowledge of him. Pray that they may find and be found by him. Pray for those who have died and for the families who mourn in our community of faith. I ask your prayers for the following... Praise God for those in every generation in whom Christ has been honored. We pray that we may have grace to glorify Christ in our own day. And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we pray, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Invitation to the Offering We all can contribute in some way to the Body of Christ and the work of Christ s church. Paul reminds us that we are the Body of Christ and individually members of it. We are asked to share this Body with God s world. Each part has something to contribute to the whole. Let us be faithful to God and to this Body as we share what we can this morning. (All persons are requested to sign the red friendship pads. OFFERING is continually being collected for our missionaries, Sally Jane and Crosby Johnson. The Coffee Connections sign-up sheet for 2019 is now posted on the bulletin board in the narthex. All you have to do is provide treats (you can be reimbursed if you desire), brew coffee (coffee and makers are supplied by the church), set up, and clean up. Help me to see that every waking moment is full of promise because of you. Amen. Evening We beseech you to continue your gracious protection to us and our families this night. Defend us from all dangers, and from the fear of them; that we may enjoy such refreshing sleep as may fit us for the duties of the coming day. And grant us grace always to live in such a state that we may never be afraid to die; so that, living and dying, we may be yours, through the merits and satisfaction of your Son Christ Jesus, in whose name we offer up these our imperfect prayers. CALL TO ANNUAL MEETING - JANUARY 27, 2019 All members of the Congregation are invited and encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting TODAY. A Covered Dish Dinner will be held at 11:45 a.m. in room 100. Following the dinner, the Annual Meeting will begin at 12:45 p.m. in room 100. There will be a time for questions and discussion on the printed Annual Report. Reports are available on the table in the Gallery. THE WOMEN S GUILD will meet February 4 at 1:30 in room 202. We will be viewing the DVD on the lesson from our book on Twelve More Women of the Bible, Session 10 Woman with the Issue of Blood. All women of the church are invited to attend at any time. INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY In case of inclement weather for church and Sunday School, please check the church s website, the church s Facebook page, or the WGAL website for closing information. If services are held, please use your best judgement as to whether you are able to attend. A Friendly Reminder...Don t let your offering take a snow day! Our budget needs to continue through the winter, even if you are not able to attend church. Please make an effort, if you can, to send in those offering envelopes, or drop off in the office when the weather clears! A LOVE OFFERING during the month of February will go to benefit the summer programs of Hartman Center through Penn Central Conference. The average cost of a full week of camp is just over $500 which means that every camper is subsidized. Thank you for supporting the ministry of Hartman Center. Please use the Love Offering envelopes found in the pew racks. DAFFODIL DAYS Sunday, March 24 The American Cancer Society is relaunching a longtime favorite spring fundraiser, Daffodil Days! This campaign will once again celebrate the arrival of spring with the delivery of beautiful daffodils and tulips. Mini Potted Daffodils will be on sale for $10.00 each. Envelopes for your orders may be found on the table in the narthex. All orders must be received by Sunday, February 10. Please make checks payable to the American Cancer Society. The Mini-Potted Daffodils will be displayed in the sanctuary on Sunday, March 24. LADIES TEA FOR MISSIONARY VAN FUND Ladies, please mark your calendars: A tea will be held on Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m. in support of the Van Fund for Missionaries Sally Jane and Crosby Johnson. 6 THE REVEREND DOCTOR MONICA DAWKINS-SMITH Conference Minister and President, Penn Central Conference of the United Church of Christ The Reverend Doctor Monica Dawkins-Smith currently serves as the Conference Minister and President of Penn Central Conference of the United Church of Christ. Rev. Dr. Dawkins-Smith is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. Prior to her election to serve as Conference Minister in 2016, she provided pastoral leadership for two churches in the Conference: historic Salem United Church in downtown Harrisburg PA ( ) and Faith United Church of Christ ( ), an open and affirming congregation in downtown State College, PA. Both congregations lived out their mission to love God and neighbor by engaging intentional community outreach addressing issues of poverty, hunger and bullying in schools. Rev. Dr. Dawkins-Smith currently serves the wider church in various leadership positions: Lancaster Theological Seminary Board of Trustees, Mid-Atlantic Region Cabinet member for UCC Council of Conference Ministers, Council for Health and Human Services Ministry Board Member, PA Council of Churches and a member of the United Church of Christ Council for Theological Education. Prior to a vocation in ministry, Rev. Dr. Dawkins-Smith served in management positions in sales, marketing and in training and development roles across several industries (pharmaceutical, manufacturing and banking). HOME CARE & HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Neighbors Helping Neighbors... Hospice volunteering can make such a difference not only in the livers of those needing support, but also in your life! SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice is looking for caring individuals interested in serving York County by becoming hospice volunteers. All volunteers receive specialize training. Training is FREE and the next session if scheduled for March 18 and 25 from 9:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. at our office located at 180 Leader Heights Road.
