Most strong ropes have many fibres twisted into lengths and then three of them are chosen and wound together to form a much stronger final rope. But the Bible isn t really talking about cords or ropes. It s talking about people and especially God s people. When my wife Linda and I got married this verse was used at our wedding. While the verse isn t necessarily talking about marriage it has significant implications in that setting. We saw our marriage as being a relationship between God, Linda and I, and by joining with God individually and as a couple we are made stronger. In our school community, for it to be strong, there needs to be strong intertwined relationships between God, school and our families. In other words, we need to stick together because we re a lot stronger as a group than we are alone. It means supporting each other, encouraging each other, helping each other, praying for each other and, of course, loving each other. And that s something we should pray about: Father God, we pray that you will bind us together with cords that cannot be broken. Like an old song says, bind us together with love. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen. Corbz

2 2 Prayer Points That God will continue to change us so that His peace and love would be reflected in everything we think, say and do together as a school community. For comfort and healing of those within the RCCC community who are unwell in any manner. For our Year 10 s in this their last semester at RCCC and for discernment as they explore their future pathways for preparation and service. For Miss Kip and the Primary students as together they prepare for the production of O Chicken of Little Faith. Save the date! At 7pm on Friday, the 7th of September, our Primary classes will be performing the musical O Chicken of Little Faith. This is a wonderful story filled with scripture verses, chicken-related puns, and Christian morals. This production is not to be missed so please put a note in your calendar and watch this space for more information.! Some new Bible Verses to focus on Over the next three weeks we will be trying to understand, remember and apply these verses from the Bible: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures for ever. Let Israel say: His love endures for ever. Let the house of Aaron say: His love endures for ever. Let those who fear the Lord say: His love endures for ever. When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans. (Psalm 118:1-8) Please also try to encourage this within your family. Merit award winners for Term 3 week 04 Malachi Flett for his great effort during swimming Narelle Foley for her exceptional work on her budget project Taya Calder for improving her attitude and following instructions Rowan Whitfield for being helpful with the boys changing at swimming Congratulations everyone! Class of the week is Snowy Well done to the young people in Years 7-8. Working Bee on August 25 th On Saturday morning August 25 th between 8am and 12 noon we will be having our working bee for this term and I hope quite a few of us can work together at the school on that morning. Please come when you can and leave when you need to, enjoying morning tea together at around 10.30am. We ll be aiming to do a range of inside and outside jobs to suit a variety of skills and interests, with a special focus on making the running areas of the oval more ready for the Athletics day coming up. We ll have most things needed to enable the work but please bring along your preferred equipment if you would like and, if it s not too much trouble, a couple of extra wheelbarrows would help. Children are welcome to be involved and work along with their parents. Peter Nelson

3 3 Praying for our School Prayer continues for our students, staff and families at various times and places, and we have experienced God meeting our needs in wonderful ways that we did not foresee. We now want to offer an additional place for such prayer together every Monday morning during school term, commencing on August 20 th in the meeting room off the front office. Lyndell Nelson will normally host these times from 9am to 9.30am and you re welcome to be part of this whenever you are able. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God and the peace of God which passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6&7 Breakfast at school with Dads and other such men in our lives Invitations with more details will be out soon, but guys please keep this date free if you can. It will be breakfast at 8am and then attending our normal half hour Assembly at 9am on Friday August 31 st. National Book Week Costume Parade Tuesday 21st August in the Multi Purpose Hall after class devotions, approx. 9:10am. Come dressed representing a book/book character that you treasure. PRIZES Best Creative Costume Secondary, Upper Primary, Lower Primary Most Unique Costume Secondary, Upper Primary, Lower Primary Best Teacher/Staff Costume Students get to vote for the staff category Parents are invited to attend and are also welcome to stay for one or both Library Sessions: Swan class 10am to 10:50am, Mitchell class 11.10am to 12 noon and enjoy a cuppa in the Staff Room in between the two sessions if you have the time to join us. We would love to see you there!

5 5 After school on Wednesday, 8th August, Luke, Ruth and Jeff Broad, Carl and Steve Stone and Mrs. Carolyne McDonald headed down to Bendigo for the launch of The Vox Bendigo Book 2018 Young Writers Anthology, Curious. All of the Year 7/8 students are to be congratulated for the wonderful pieces they wrote and submitted. Cecile Shanahan, the editor of Curious commented that the judges had had a difficult task selecting only a handful of entries for publication. 230 students from the Bendigo region submitted entries for consideration, of which 30 were selected for publication. Both Luke s and Carl s pieces were chosen and included in the book. They both received a copy at the launch. Congratulations Luke and Carl! Another copy will soon be available for borrowing from our school library.
