Acts 8:14-17 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. Our focus today

Mark Twain CELEBRATION OF THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION: In Holy Communion (the Lord s Supper), we receive, together with the bread and wine, the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, given and shed for us for the forgiveness of sins. Scripture urges us to receive the Sacrament worthily. Those who receive the Sacrament worthily are those who are baptised, repent of their sin, trust in Jesus Christ as their only Saviour, believe in his real presence in the Sacrament and intend to lead a holy life in obedience to God s Word. In Holy Communion, we are united with Christ and with one another. By communing together, we say: We are one in our faith. We believe and confess the same things about Jesus Christ and his Supper. If you are not a member of the Lutheran Church and you have questions about attending the Lord s Supper, please arrange to speak to Pastor prior to attending.

It has been a joy and privilege for me to lead worship in all our 8 congregations over the past one or two years. We have made many new friendships which we will cherish.

Parish Confirmation Class 2018: Classes will resume on Monday 4th February, 2019 at the usual time of 4.00 pm at the Holy Trinity Church hall.

To date, 9 young people have indicated their intention to join this group. In the next weeks, a meeting will be arranged to discuss plans and to settle on a time for this new class.

Barossa North Parish Call Parish Call: The Parish has issued a call to Pastor Damien Martin to serve this Parish. We pray God s blessing on him as gives this call his consideration in these weeks. From Pastor David I want to thank everyone for their gifts and kind words to me and Jo as we leave active ministry in the parish. Confirmation 2019: A reminder that young people entering high school this year are eligible to start Confirmation classes. To date, 9 young people have indicated their intention to join this group. In the next weeks, a meeting will be arranged to discuss plans and to settle on a time for this new class. Cleaning at Kavel Hall and the Parish Office: Expressions of interest are sought from interested persons who might like to take up this job offer of cleaning the offices, toilets etc at Immanuel Way, Light Pass (approximately 2 hours per week). Contact Lynn Mattner for more details Heritage Program: ABC Television through its SBS channel is filming an episode of Where are you really from in the Barossa, highlighting the German heritage. Part of the story will be filmed at the Ebenezer church this Monday 14th January (TOMORROW) from 2.30 pm. The program is interested in interviewing anyone with connections to the foundation families of the Ebenezer congregation. SBS will also be filming the church service on 20th January at Ebenezer at am. While this was scheduled to be a layreading service, Pastor David Freckelton has agreed to conduct this service. Please note that the service time remains at the time previously scheduled.

5 Holy Trinity Special Congregation Meeting: Sunday 27th January after the 9.00 am service to further discuss/vote on the motion discussed at 2018 AGM &other information. Ebenezer / Neukirch Lutheran Women Magazine Subscriptions: Lutheran Women Magazine subs are now due. Please pay Ruth Kleinig at Neukirch or Gwen Ruediger at Ebenezer. Cost is $10 for six issues per year which is good value and good reading. New subscribers are always welcome. Neukirch Bible Study: The next Bible study is on Monday 14th January at Neukirch Hall at 7.30 pm. We will be studying Mark 9 anyone and everyone welcome! Thanks to everyone who has attended so far and helped out. It really has been a blessing to study the Word in a different light! Ebenezer Annual Meeting Reports: A reminder to those who prepare reports for the AGM. Please hand them to the Secretary Sue Riebke by the 1st February. Ebenezer Congregational Members -If you DO NOT wish to remain in your elected position please let the Church Council know as soon as possible. Stockwell Advance Notice: The 2019 AGM will be on Thursday 28th February at 6.30 pm beginning with savoury and sweet dish shared tea and meeting to follow. Immanuel, Light Pass Women s Fellowship Membership: It is that time of the year when membership donations for next year are due. The amount is $22 (which includes the subscription for Lutheran Women magazine) and is payable to the Fellowship Treasurer, Sandra John. Annual General Meeting: Sunday 17th February 2019 after 9.00 am service. Reports need to be handed to Secretary Jill Boehm by 20th January Nominations: In readiness for AGM Nominations next year, please contact Pastor Wally, Tim Hage, Alan John, or Kelly Mattner if you wish to volunteer your services for any committee position or resign from your current positions. General Pastor Contact: With the conclusion of the ministry of Pastor David, which he has provided during the vacancy for the past two years, pastoral needs should now be directed only to Pastor Wally. This is particularly important if someone is admitted to hospital. Please be encouraged to make such pastoral needs known so that visits can be arranged.

Australian Lutheran College closes boarding facilities Despite the advert in the most recent Together magazine, ALC's residential boarding facility will close, effective from 31 January 2019.

11 Australian Lutheran College closes boarding facilities Despite the advert in the most recent Together magazine, ALC's residential boarding facility will close, effective from 31 January Boarder enrolments have been decreasing for some years and the college s boarding services are no longer financially viable. The board and college remain committed to the implementation of ALC's Strategic Direction to serve the whole church, according to the whole church s needs. It is estimated that during 50 years of operation, the boarding facilities have given more than 5000 young people the opportunity to live and share in the life of the college community. ALC students have been given assurance that their education through the college is not in any way at risk as a result of this closure. Blue Print Ministry Events Renew young Adult Camp for young adults post high school Fri 8th Mon 11th February 2019, Ankara, Walkers Flat Registra ons close 28th January % off the registra on cost is offered for those who have just completed year 12. Subsidies available through Blueprint Ministries. Growing Young Conference for congrega ons interested in helping young people discover and love church. Saturday 16th February, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Para Vista. Based on the 6 essen al strategies to help young people discover and love your church outlined in the book Growing young, co-authored by Jake Mulder who is the guest speaker. Churches are encouraged to a end as a group and develop the strategies that work for them following the conference. Don t miss it!
