1 Faithfully I Serve Him Lake Township FISH Volume 1, Issue 5 Recap of July August Food Orders Housing $3,430 Electric - 11 $2, Gas - 1. $ Faithfully I Serve Him Food Pantry Needs: Toothpaste Shampoo Instant Potatoes Pasta Sauce Granola Bars Rice September / October 2014 Editor: Jan Moore-Dwenger FISH S Food for Thought: Where charity and love prevail, there God is ever found, brought here together by Christ s love, by love we thus are bound. ----Omer Westendorf The last two months have been busy ones for the Lake FISH food pantry. Lots of comin in and goin out. But that s how we like it! It means that those folks in the community who need groceries have a source from which to receive them and they will not go hungry - and that benevolent sponsors, namely the businesses, churches and individuals you see listed throughout this newsletter do the providing. Christ s love abounds at Lake Township FISH every day and we are very grateful for it! Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! Sometimes we are remiss in thanking those donors who consistently give a particular item every week or every month. Three groups fit this category. Pizza Hut donates pizzas and pastas every week that Jan and Tom Dwenger pick up and deliver to FISH. Grace United Church of Christ provides the pantry with toilet tissue and Bill Pressler delivers it on an as needed basis. The pantry receives free bakery items from Agape Bread Ministry that Annabelle and Don Fearon and Jack Bishoff pick up from a warehouse on Sunnyside Street twice a week. Harold and Shirley Goad have directed this ministry for many years during which FISH S clients have received hundreds of the baked goods. All of these products are so vital to this program and FISH is most appreciative of these much-needed items and to those who do their part to get them to the pantry. During the last couple of months, other individuals, organizations and churches made contributions. These are: Advent Lutheran Church, Bethany Mennonite Church, Blessed Assurance Acres, Chapel of Green, Cornerstone Mennonite, East Nimishillen Church of the Brethren, Grace United Church of Christ, Greentown United Methodist Church, Hartville Church of the Brethren, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Lynn Ward, Mary Ann Gooding, Maple Grove Mennonite Church, New Life Episcopal Church, Rivertree Church, St. Jacob s Community Church of Cairo, St. Jacob s Lutheran Church, Solid Rock Fellowship, and Uniontown United Methodist. Thank you all for your ministry!

All of the food will be donated to the FISH pantry.
4 Saluting Our Volunteers All of our volunteer workers are extremely important to this organization and we like to highlight some of them in each newsletter. In this issue we feature the following: Volunteer, Marty Myers, is always helping the needy, whether it is buying shoes for a child, driving a client to the food bank, buying groceries for the pantry, or making comforters for those in need, she continuously and fervently helps others every day. She also donates baskets of homecanned foods for the Lake Historical Society s Silent Auction. In August, Marty won six First Prize Awards and one Second Prize for her canning expertise at the Portage County Fair. Congratulations, Marty and thanks for your caring spirit. Volunteers, Julia and Tom Besenyodi, keep busy spending hours helping with Lake Township FISH. Julia tabulates Acme register tapes that are given to FISH. She works efficiently to turn the tapes into cash that amounts to hundreds of dollars for the organization each year. Tom has been FISH S bookkeeper for several years. He makes many trips to the pantry to collect the bills, pays the bills, reports to the Advisory Council about the bills and income, and writes thank you notes to the donors. Tom and Julia also volunteer at the Friends of the Lake Township Library. We are very grateful to you, Julia and Tom, for your services to our community and especially to FISH. Volunteer, Freda Hathaway, is our local Coupon Guru. Her diligent pursuit of bargains, coupons, and grocery deals has yielded many savings for FISH. She has been couponing for many years and has been a FISH volunteer for about a year and a half. She estimates that she spends 4-5 hours a week for this organization. Every week, Kathleen Schenck, FISH S Director, buys food from the Akron-Canton Food Bank plus gets a good amount free from that source. However, the grocery supplies FISH needs for distribution is supplemented by donations, brown bag drives and by what is bought from local grocery stores. This is where Freda steps up to the plate. Using her research and coupons, she goes shopping, often stopping at several stores. Sometimes, Mark and Pat Hearns, other FISH volunteers, go with her on the grocery runs to tote the hundreds of cans she purchases. Freda relates that she is impressed with FISH because it is a good steward of the money it receives. Freda also does other volunteering. She helps build houses for Habitat for Humanity and quilts, knits and crochets baby afghans that she donates to Akron Children s Hospital. This busy lady is a member of the Washington Ruritans that do a lot of fund raising activities to help the community. She requests that if anyone has a paper route or has extra papers, please drop them off at the FISH pantry so she can use the coupons. Thank you, Freda for your hard work!
5 FISH S Wish List consists of the extras we need at the pantry. Maybe you can provide some of these items. This section will appear in every newsletter. Postage Stamps Quart Ziploc bags (for food) One gallon and two gallon plastic bags (for food) 33 Gallon trash bags REMINDERS to GROCERY DELIVERERS: When you deliver groceries to the pantry, be sure you leave the bags on the white table in the back room near the garage door or around that table. We need to scan the items for dates before shelving them. Also, please sign the paper that is hanging in the back room above that white table and record the number of bags you deliver along with your name, the date, and the name of the organization you represent if there is one. Thank you for you generosity! Save Acme Receipts For FISH Lake Township FISH will again participate in Acme s Community Cash Back Program beginning September 18, 2014 and end February 4, If you have Acme register receipts, please give them to your church s FISH representative to take to the pantry or take them to the pantry when you volunteer and deposit them in the container on the table where the coupons are. FISH will earn a 5% return on the purchase of these brand name products: Acme Fresh Market, Food Club, Top Care, Full Circle, Valu Time, Paws, World Classics, Academix, Dometrix and Electrix from this store. This is an easy way to earn cash for FISH. United Way Many of you already donate to United Way through your employer. We d like you to think about designating your gift to Lake Township FISH. This way your donation goes directly to an organization that helps those in need. FISH is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization and, therefore, qualifies for these donations. If you have any questions please contact Andy Matching Donations Some corporations have programs that match donations made by their employees. Again, because Lake Township FISH has the 501(c)3 status, it is a tax exempt organization. Check with your employer if this program exists. FACEBOOK Lake Township FISH is now on Facebook and you can follow news and coming events to keep current with FISH activities and news by linking on to or go to the FISH website for more information:
