Enkindle within our Vincentian Family unity, simplicity, humility, and the fire of love that burned in St. Vincent de Paul. Strengthen us, so that, faithful to the practice of these virtues, we may contemplate you and serve you in the person of the poor, and may one day be united with you and them in your Kingdom. Amen. Inspired by Gospel, values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul. As a reflection of the whole family of God, members, who are known as Vincentians, are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group, and economic level. Vincentians are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility and sharing, which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings and adherence to a basic Rule. Organized locally, Vincentians witness God's love by embracing all works of charity and justice. The Society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ

2 2 The Sacred Heart/Divine Child St. Vincent de Paul partnered with the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in another successful fund-raiser, earning just shy of $21,000. This is our 11 th Annual Chili Cha-Cha, which was a sell-out almost before the second week of sales were over. The event took place at Sacred Heart Parish Hall on January 27, The St. Vincent de Paul and the Capuchin Soup Kitchen were each awarded approximately $10,000 after deduction of food costs. Silent auction aided to bring in very good bidding; the Silver Spoon Sponsor campaign and the Good Samaritan campaign boosted donations incredibly, making this year s event the highest earnings ever. We are so grateful for our wonderful Chef Alison, the Chili Cha-Cha Committee, the volunteers, the guests, and the sponsors who supported our missions, said Pamela Szpytman, President of the Sacred Heart/Divine Child St. Vincent de Paul. She added she was proud of the new initiative called Silver Spoon Sponsors who brought in almost $8,000 from individual donors. It s incredible! Everyone who contributed is an angel, she said smiling. Chef, Alison Costello, has been the fund-raiser s excellent Chef all eleven years. She serves as Chef of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. Amazingly, Alison undertakes and directs preparation for the entire dinner, providing several different choices of chili, salads, cornbread, and desserts. Entertainment was provided by Little Davy and the Diplomats. The SVdP will be able to assist the needy with food, rent, heating bills, and other delinquent bills, while the Capuchins can continue to provide warm, comfort food to its hungry visitors. Chairperson, Fran Helner, has a long-standing tradition with the event, working tirelessly behind the scenes as well as providing her talent as host of the event. According to Brother Jerry Johnson, Director of Capuchin Soup Kitchen, we are certainly blessed to have this alliance with SVdP for this event and appreciate all the hard work. Fran Helner, Chairperson of the Chili Cha-Cha, presents Brother Jerry Johnson of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen his share of the fund-raiser, a tad over $10,000. Fran also presented the other half to SVdP President Pamela Szpytman.

May the hand of God protect me, the way of God lie before me, the shield of God defend me, the host of God save me. May Christ shield me today. Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit, Christ when I stand, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me. We have many items in stock, such as lapel pins for commissioning new members, along with President and Spiritual Advisor pins. We have pamphlets and books your conferences can use to grow together in holiness, such as Praying with Frederic Ozanam, Vincentian Reflections, and The Spirituality of the Home Visit. We also have SVdP windbreakers, denim long sleeve shirts and baseball caps with our logo to get us ready for spring! FREE HEALTHCARE CLINIC: Free Healthcare Clinic 6345 Schaefer Rd. Dearborn, Every second Saturday of month, 10am-4pm----- Next one this Saturday March 10 Healthcare, Dental and Blood Work TAX SERVICES: Tax Services are available for low income families. Contact Pamela if you have a client who needs this service. Recently, Karen Marzonie, Director of Landscapes at Historic Henry Ford Fair Lane, facilitated a philanthropic gesture by Ford officials, so St. Vincent de Paul would benefit from their renovation process. Henry Ford Fair Lane, years ago, discontinued their restaurant called The Pool, and with current, extensive renovation, The Pool s kitchenware needed a new home, according to Pamela Szpytman, President of Sacred Heart/Divine Child St. Vincent de Paul. We count our blessings that they would think of our Conference as the perfect recipient. In fact, many of our clients are clamoring to receive these kinds of items, but their financial difficulty prevents them owning something that we take for granted. Giving these folks these necessities, will allow us to restore their dignity. The St. Vincent de Paul warmly thanks Karen Marzonie as well as Ford officials, who made this outstanding gesture toward our Conference. With the aid of Karen Marzonie, Anne and Tommy Morabito, Kathleen and Tim Bailey, and Mindy Delano, items such as glasses, plates, bowls, and flatware were taken from the mansion s basement, carried to vehicles, and transported to basements of Vincentians who will hold the items for past and future clients. According to Vice-President, Anne Morabito, she would search our Google List of clients who have placed requests for such items and then, consequently, deliver them to their final home. There s beautiful cobalt blue wineglasses, perfect for etching, for the next year s Chili Cha-Cha, as well as two tea services which will be ear-marked for Chili Cha-Cha s Silent Auction next year, along with 3 huge leaded cut glass bowls, revealed Treasurer, Mindy Delano. The Holy Spirit works in wonderful ways and isn t it a coincidence that this donation occurred in the week of Random Acts of Kindness? The Fair Lane mansion Tim Bailey, husband of Vincentian Kathleen Bailey, was one of the helpers in the transport & was attracted to this deer found in the Morabito home. He was gifted a bottle of their home-made wine.
