Members in Attendance: Fr. Terry Keehan, Fr. Rich Jakubik, Chad Archer, Barb Knuth, Joe Ferlita, Andy Konopka, Heidi Trocha, Mike Myers, Karina Chavez Members Absent: Guests: Jack Shedd, Ro Geisler, Bernie Schaeffer, Tracey Cantarutti, Brooke Held, Pauline Carlson, Tony Mathias, Cattie Scharm, Robin Schreiner Alex Posey, Thomas Morel Maureen DeRosa, Dr. Peg Hanrahan, Jeff Miller Co-Chairman Chad Archer called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. I. Mission and Faith First Chad shared his thoughts about the gospel lesson for Kid Church this weekend and how it relates to a new album cover with a tree, and how the roots are the foundation digging into the word of God. II. Mission Effectiveness and Pulse of the Parish Karina shared a story about a woman who was looking for new parish had attended the 9:00 mass and was very happy to find us. Fr. Terry, felt we could have done a much better job of welcoming the people who came for the mission trip. There was discussion on ways to improve in the future. Fr. Terry relayed that there was a woman who had requested a mass intention that did not get into the book. Chad wondered if there was more we could be doing to get our message out. Joe suggested having the Knights Café be a recruiting mass. He suggested handing out vouchers to attend free for visitors. Andy asked about groups we haven t thought about in the past such as Palatine Opportunity Center which serves people who may be looking for a faith community. Barb suggested we send a letter asking people to respond anonymously with the reasons they left our church community. Fr. Terry suggested forming a committee to put energy into these ideas. Barb will work on the letter group. Andy will work on the Palatine Opportunity Center idea. Andy shared his experience in the past of offering to volunteer but never getting a call back. He noted people who offer and never get a call back tend to feel insignificant. We need to follow-up and follow through. 1 Holy Family Catholic Community, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness, IL,

III. Approval of the June Council Minutes There being no quorum, the approval of the minutes was tabled until the August meeting. IV. Pastors Report Fr. Terry spoke about welcoming 200 teens for around the country for the mission trip. Fr. Terry shared the Academy is working on a strategic plan for the school year. The board has broken up into 5 sub-committees: 1. Academic and School Life 2. Catholic Identity 3. Communication 4. Financial Vitality 5. Governance. One of the goals is to make the relationship between the parish and the academy better. Fr. Terry explained the Worship Summit where Worship, Pastoral Care, Music and Technology major ministering communities spent 3 days to prepare, plan and evaluate our worship experience here. The acronym they think captures our spirit and extends our mission is PURE. Prayerful, Unique, Relevant and Effective. The summit team also would like to return some of our attention to the founding concept that we not only seek inspiration from the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph but WE are a Holy Family and are seeking to be holier. Fr. Terry went over the mass schedule and the types of music that will be a part of each service this summer. Sunday July 23 is the Feast of Mary Magdalene. Cynthia Sam Bowers will speak at each mass. Renew my Church plans with St Anne s are stalled but Fr. Terry is working to get them back on track. Fr. Terry highlighted the outreach to college students this summer. There will be a speaker every other Sunday following the 4pm mass. A small Scripture study group has formed. There will be a service project for Habitat for Humanity in August. The High School Student once again defeated the College Student in the annual softball game. A Facebook page has been set up for college students to access information. Fr. Terry gave an update about plans for Fr. Bill Zavatski to be the administrator here should Fr. Terry continue with his plans for his sabbatical. Fr. Terry asked Fr Rich to share some of his observations after being here for a short time. V. Sub-Committee Update Maureen reported for Bernie. Maureen explained the Purchasing Policy is to abide by the Archdiocese guidelines as much as possible. 2 Holy Family Catholic Community, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness, IL,

VI. She noted any expenditure over $10,000 requires approval of the Finance Committee and 3 Bids. She explained how parishioners help advise on purchases noting we sometimes work with parishioners as well to provide the service. Andy feels our policy doesn t adequately reflect when it is acceptable to choose a parishioner over a non-parishioner. There was discussion. The feeling is, the policy should reflect that all things being EQUAL, preference would be given to a parishioner. Chad passed out the Domestic Violence Resource Pamphlet from Sue. There was no discussion. Teen Faith Update Dr. Peg gave the Teen Faith Update. Dr. Peg said she hired a summer intern to expand the youth ministry footprint and put together college outreach. The year- end celebration of the sacraments went well. The Knights brunch for catechists had the highest attendance ever. Spirit Camp hosted the most kids in its 20-year history. Credit to the parents who are in charge. It got good reviews from parents. 137 volunteers work throughout the camp. Next year s theme for Spirit Camp is Shipwrecked. Dr. Peg explained that each year during Spirit Camp they do outreach. This year they chose a school in Kenya. She shared some of the ways we helped with the $5300 the kids raised. Dr. Peg noted they will continue the relationship with this school and the Faith classes. Jeff Miller arrived. There are 200 teens here for the Mission Trip. The focus is Suburban Poor. They are working for mostly elderly residents in Palatine. Dr. Peg noted that once finished, they will evaluate to see if some of the kids would rather go away for a Mission Trip. Next year they would possibly do 2 mission trips. One here and one away. The outdoor adventure club with St. Malachy had 2 groups go on trips to the Boundary Waters. Dr. Peg spoke about the college outreach efforts going on. She is hosting an evening for parents sending kids off to college. She is hoping to regroup with them in the fall to send care packages. Dr. Peg went over the agenda for a parallel service activity the 2 nd week of August with 15 kids working in Palatine as well as teambuilding. Splash Fest will be held August 6 th from 12:30-3:00. There is a day trip scheduled for 1 st -6 th graders to Brookfield Zoo. Dr. Peg shared her belief in the need to change programs every year so things don t get stale. Last year was a change in the curriculum. This year they are changing the preschool 3 Holy Family Catholic Community, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness, IL,

and kindergarten programs. There will be some changes to the high school program as well. The Faith programs are doing modest enrollment marketing to families of kids 3-5. They have sent a letter to parents of kids 6-8 about the requirements for First Communion. She has retooled the First Communion and Reconciliation programs. Dr. Peg shared the challenges of families that don t regularly participate looking for First Communion or Confirmation for their kids. She has now started a second Process of Christian Initiation to meet the needs of families who have missed sacraments for their children. Chad suggested getting involved with Harper College in some way could be a good recruiting effort as well. We are still looking for K-6 catechists. Fr. Terry commended Dr. Peg s staff for stepping up while she was out. VII. Fall Fest Joe passed out a marketing brochure for Fall Fest. He noted most restaurants have already signed up. They are looking at possibly using a bigger tent. Many volunteers are still needed to help. Joe said we are offering free advertising for donating 300 hors d oeuvres. Fr. Terry suggested recognition with a plaque for restaurants who participate. Hops on the Vine tickets go on sale August 12 th at $30.00 each. There will be 300 Family Fest raffle tickets sold after masses. Joe thanked the teens for cooking for the men s softball league. He said it s been a way of recruiting for Holy Family. Joe is trying to get the academy involved with the Knights. VIII. 5 Update Covered in Pastor s Report. IX. Other Business Barb shared that she s come to an impasse with pavers for the Courtyard. She explained that paver sizes have changed. She has a solution to stagger old and new pavers so the sizes aren t as obvious. Joe suggested using the pavers from behind the bar area. Barb said she had been approached my Menards as they are having a school supply drive. She wrote a letter to request supplies for kids from St. Mathias and Transfiguration as well as any of our students who receive free tuition. Andy suggested groups that could benefit if there are extra supplies. Fr. Terry noted St. Malachy could use them as well. X. Joe shared a closing thoughts with the lyrics from I Will Rule the World by Tony Bennett. 4 Holy Family Catholic Community, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness, IL,

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:38pm The next meeting date is August 15, 2017 Respectfully submitted, Heidi Trocha 5 Holy Family Catholic Community, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness, IL,
