The table was made possible by funds from the memorials given in memory of Donald F. Franklin who died June 4, The table was dedicated on what would have been Don s 88 th birthday. The table built by Ralph Spurrier, a member of Wesley, was made from wood cut from the oak tree that once stood near the front entrance of the church. The table is patterned after the large table donated by Don and Joyce Franklin in the Wesley Library. The table was stained to match the floor at the front of the Wesley sanctuary and has a protective glass top. The table provides a place to set an urn for a memorial service when a family chooses cremation or a place to display family pictures for a traditional funeral service with a casket. The Memorial Table has a permanent home in the Wesley Chapel when not being used in the Wesley sanctuary for a memorial or traditional funeral service. The Franklin Family is pleased with the table s permanent home in the Chapel as Don and Joyce Evans were married in the Wesley Chapel on May 29, A word of thanks goes to all who had a part in making this beautiful table a reality. Its beauty and service will be a blessing to the Wesley congregation for years to come. Thank You! A thank you goes to all who helped with the light meal preceding the 2020 Pettis County UMC Lenten Service at Wesley at 5:00p.m. on Sunday evening, March 26, Special thanks goes to those who provided food, helped in setting up, serving, and cleaning up afterwards. Over 100 attendees enjoyed this time of food and fellowship. 3 Come join the Campmeeting Board for TRIVIA NIGHT at the Lake Creek United Methodist Church on April 15! Dinner starts at 6 PM and trivia starts at 6:30 PM. Put together your own team, or join others that night to create a new team! Teams will consist of 6-8 people. We are almost in April and Holy Week is not far away, which means that the next Youth Sunday is getting closer. Youth Sunday will be April 30 th. The youth will bring a message of faith as it is seen in an Oatmeal Cookie. You don t want to miss this service. We are beginning to prepare for our upcoming summer activities which include Vacation Bible School and our annual summer mission trip to Big Creek, Kentucky, July 22 through July 29. The youth will be speaking about the mission trip on July 30 th as part of Youth Sunday. We would like to thank everyone for their gracious support of the youth program. 4 From Our Pastor s Desk March 26 th was Preschool Sunday. It was a wonderful privilege to welcome our preschool children and their families to worship at the 10:45 service. The kids sang beautifully and the 176 folks in worship was wonderful. We are blessed to have the Kids for Christ Preschool as a part of the Wesley family. Thank you to Denise Warner and Marina Isayko for all they do, and thank you to the Preschool Board for their leadership. Throughout this season of Lent the opportunities to get together and grow in our faith have been numerous. Wednesday mornings during Lent mean breakfasts with our brothers and sisters in Christ who are part of the Pettis County Ministerial Association. Wesley hosted the breakfast on March 15 th. The breakfast and gathering was a great way to begin the day. Thank you to everyone who prepared the breakfast and to Kim Graves for sharing the devotional. We have gathered every Sunday night during Lent with the other United Methodist s in our community for worship. On the 26 th we hosted the service at Wesley and there were over 100 people that came to eat and worship. The Bell Choir shared their talents during the service. It was great. Thank you for all those who have contributed to a wonderful Lenten season at Wesley. It is not over yet. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, April 9 th. We will host an Easter Egg Hunt for the children of our church and community at 3:00 p.m. Palm Sunday afternoon. Maundy Thursday worship is on April 13 th to commemorate the Last Supper. Good Friday worship the next evening will be a community service at 6:00 p.m. hosted by Broadway Presbyterian Church that you won t want to miss, and of course, Easter Sunday will be a special day. The church is a community called together to be the incarnation of Jesus Christ. That means as a community we are called to carry on the ministry of Jesus until he returns. We have had lots of opportunity to get together over the last many weeks. Let s not forget that we do all of this because we are responding to the love of God alive in us. God s love flows out of us into the world. Invite a friend or loved one to come with you to Wesley this Easter. Let s share the love of Christ with everyone. I want people to drive by our church and marvel about how well we love one another and invite others to be a part of it. Thanks for all you do to share the love of Jesus Christ. Dennis Our Christian love and sympathy is extended to Kevin and Steven Holbert and family on the death of their sister, Peggy. A Message from Your Treasurer Every time the congregation of Wesley has been informed of a monetary need of the church over the years, they have come through to meet that need. EVERY TIME. The key has always been for the need to be communicated. The Finance Committee decided several months ago that we would try to do something different during In addition to meeting all of the monthly recurring payments, we will try to pay 10% of our Apportionments each month (obviously for ten months) so we will not need to raise a large amount of cash during December. Although the church membership has come through in dramatic fashion during the last several years, December is not a good month to ask for extra giving, what with Christmas and Personal and Property tax expenses adding a financial burden to everyone. I checked the records to see what the deposits to the General Budget were for the last five months. For October and November 2016, the church received $13,042 and $15, 917 respectively. For December, when the congregation was challenged by the Finance Committee to raise enough money to pay 100% of our Apportionments, we received $47,677, a truly outstanding effort on the part of the church membership as a whole. For January and February, we received $16, 268 and $13,667. Wesley needs about $21,000 per month to meet all financial obligations. The Finance Committee is trying to be proactive this year to insure that we will not have to ask for a large donation in December. We paid the 10% goal in both January and February, but that was from the surplus in December. As you can see for the above figures, we will fall short of that goal this month (March) if the normal receipts are the same. So, if you, the reader of this message, have the financial ability and the will to do so, an increase in your monthly giving will be greatly appreciated. I know that some are giving all they can and God bless them for their faithfulness. Others through the grace of God and their own personal financial stewardship, have the ability to give more. If the Spirit moves you, please consider increasing your tithes and offerings.
