Ryan Townsend Saturday June 17th 9am-3pm (Lunch provided) No RSVP required Tim & Flower Darby serving with Operation Mobilisation Please join us in praising and thanking God for His abundant provision for our OM work. In last Sunday s sermon, Pastor Cole referenced an impactful sermon titled "Expecting God's Blessing" by Watchman Nee. I was struck by the thought that indeed we are experiencing God's blessing in this ministry because it is impossible to account for, humanly speaking, what He has brought about in the last 5 years. Would you pray with us for God's continued blessing? As Pastor Cole quotes from Nee, when we expect God's blessing we trust "Him to work out of all correspondence to what we might reasonably expect." Would you join us in this trust and expectation of God's abundant blessing on our 'woefully inadequate efforts' as Pastor Cole put it? Tomorrow (June 12) we fly to England and Germany to meet with teammates and work on new course projects. Please ask God for adequacy for and blessings on Janis who will once again keep our girls at home, for travel mercies, team unity, and a productive time of work. We return on June 23rd. Ping Pong Tournament and FCF Social (Sponsored by the Adult Sunday School Class) Saturday, July 15th, 5:30-7:30pm Bring your best game! Prizes! All are welcome!! Our sincere thanks to Tim & Flower Darby and family for their time and dedication to the Pastries & Fellowship Ministry which they initiated. Time has come for them to pass the baton to Penny Flood as the new coordinator. Please take a moment to express your gratitude and welcome Penny on board. We would also like to thank all of the various Sunday morning hosts as well as those that provide goodies that we so much enjoy! IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS L! " G!#! 3 June 11, 2017 Why Join the Church? Various Scriptures WHOM SHOULD THE CHURCH ACCEPT INTO MEMBERSHIP? The church should accept all whom Christ has accepted through salvation. To be an obedient Christian, you must go beyond church attendance to being a committed, serving member of a local church. IS CHURCH MEMBERSHIP A BIBLICAL CONCEPT? The local church is a gathering of those who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, who are committed to meet regularly for worship, teaching, fellowship, and prayer, and who help make disciples of all people. Why should you join a local church? 1. You should join a local church because Christ loves the church and gave Himself for her; if you love Christ, you must love His church and commit yourself to her well-being. 2. You should join a local church because the church is where you learn practically to love God and love others (the two greatest commandments). 3. You should join a local church because you need to place yourself under spiritual shepherds who care for you and will give an account for your soul. 4. You should join a local church because it is the means Jesus ordained to fulfill His Great Commission. 5. You should join a church so that you have a specific place to serve the Lord. WHAT DOES CHURCH MEMBERSHIP ENTAIL? 1. Membership is a commitment to seek to live by the church s covenant. 2. Membership is a commitment to participate regularly in the church s gatherings for worship, teaching, and fellowship. 3. Membership is a commitment to believe in and uphold the church s doctrine and practices, including church discipline whenever necessary. 4. Membership is a commitment to the church s members, to give and receive loving service and to help one another grow in Christ. 5. Membership is a commitment to follow the church s leadership as they seek to help you grow in Christ. 6. Membership is a commitment to help support the church with your finances, as the Lord prospers you. Conclusion I will apply this message by Application Questions 1. Why is the concept of being a casual church attender not biblical? How does this phenomenon reflect our consumer culture? 2. What problems should be a red flag against joining a local church? When should you consider leaving a church? 3. How should a believer determine where he or she should serve the Lord? Should every believer, no matter what his gifts, be involved in discipleship? Why/why not? 4. Submission to imperfect leaders is a scary idea for most of us. What does this mean practically? When (if ever) should leaders exert their authority?
4 Build Your Kingdom Here Come set Your rule and reign in our hearts again Increase in us we pray, unveil why we're made Come set our hearts ablaze with hope like wildfire in our very souls Holy Spirit come invade us now We are Your church. We need Your pow'r in us We seek Your kingdom first, we hunger and we thirst Refuse to waste our lives for You're our joy and prize To see the captives' hearts released, the hurt the sick the poor at peace We lay down our lives for heaven's cause We are Your church. We pray revive this earth Build Your kingdom here, let the darkness fear Show Your mighty hand, heal our streets and land Set Your church on fire, win this nation back Change the atmosphere. Build Your kingdom here we pray Unleash Your kingdom's pow'r, reaching the near and far No force of hell can stop Your beauty changing hearts You made us for much more than this, awake the kingdom seed in us Fill us with the strength and love of Christ We are Your church. We are the hope on earth I Will Worship I will worship (echo) With all of my heart (echo) I will praise You (echo) With all of my strength (All my strength) I will seek You (echo) All of my days (echo) I will follow (echo) All of Your ways (All your ways) I will give You all my worship I will give You all my praise You alone I long to worship You alone are worthy of my praise I will bow down (echo) Hail You as king (echo) I will serve You (echo) Give You everything (echo) I will lift up (echo) My eyes to Your throne (echo) I will trust You (echo) I will trust You alone (Trust You alone) Jesus Messiah He became sin, who knew no sin That we might become His righteousness He humbled Himself and carried the cross Love so amazing, love so amazing Jesus Messiah, Name above all names Blessed Redeemer, Emmanuel The Rescue for sinners, the Ransom from Heaven Jesus Messiah, Lord of all His body the bread, His blood the wine Broken and poured out all for love The whole earth trembled, and the veil was torn Love so amazing, love so amazing All our hope is in You, all our hope is in You All the glory to You, God, the Light of the world Jesus Messiah, Lord of all The Lord of all, the Lord of all How Deep the Father s Love for Us How deep the Father s love for us How vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son And make a wretch His treasure How great the pain of searing loss The Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the Chosen One Bring many sons to glory Behold the Man upon a cross My sin upon His shoulders Ashamed I hear my mocking voice Call out among the scoffers It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished His dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished I will not boast in anything No gifts, no power, no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ His death and resurrection Why should I gain from His reward I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom
5 How Great Thou Art O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder Thy power throughout the universe displayed Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee How Great Thou art, how great Thou art (2x) When thru the woods and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze And when I think that God, His Son not sparing Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing He bled and died, to take away my sin When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart Then I shall bow in humble adoration And there proclaim, my God how great Thou art Draw Me Nearer I am Thine, O Lord I have heard Your voice and it told Your love to me But I long to rise in the arms of faith and be closer drawn to Thee Draw me nearer, to the cross where Thou hast died Draw me nearer, to Your precious bleeding side There are great depths of love that I cannot know Til I cross that narrow sea There are heights of joy that I may not reach Til I rest in peace with Thee You draw me with Your mercy. You draw me with Your love You draw me with forgiveness by Your blood You draw me with compassion. You draw me as a bride You draw me closer to Your precious side Consecrate me now to Your service, Lord By the power of grace, divine Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope And my will be lost in Thine O the pure delight of a single hour that before Thy throne I spend When I kneel in prayer and with Thee, my God I commune as friend with friend Draw me nearer, draw me nearer Come Let Us Worship and Bow Down Come, let us worship and bow down Let us kneel before the Lord, our God and Maker (repeat) For He is our God And we are the people of His pasture And the sheep of His hand Just the sheep of His hand How Great Is Our God The splendor of the King Clothed in majesty Let all the earth rejoice All the earth rejoice He wraps Himself in light And darkness tries to hide And trembles at His voice And trembles at His voice Sing with me All will see, how great Age to age He stands And time is in His hands Beginning and the End Beginning and the End The Godhead, three in one Father, Spirit, Son The Lion and the Lamb The Lion and the Lamb Name above all names Worthy of all praise My heart will sing I Will Follow Where You go, I'll go Where You stay, I'll stay When You move, I'll move I will follow All Your ways are good All Your ways are sure I will trust in You alone Higher than my sight High above my life I will trust in You alone Where You go, I'll go Where You stay, I'll stay When You move, I'll move I will follow You Whom You love, I'll love How You serve, I'll serve If this life I lose I will follow (You) Yeah, I will follow You, yeah Light unto the world Light unto my life I will live for You alone You're the One I seek Knowing I will find All I need in You alone In You alone In You there's life everlasting In You there's freedom for my soul In You there's joy, unending joy And I will follow Yeah, I will follow You, yeah I will follow You, yeah I will follow You, yeah
