1 Sermon Notes 3 rd Last Sunday of the End Times Commemoration of St. Martin of Tours And He [Jesus] answered them, Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise (Luke 3:11).

Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. O almighty God, merciful Father, C I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended You and justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being.

4 Let us pray: O Almighty God, You have called us to faith in Your Son and You have surrounded us with so great a cloud of witnesses. We pray that we may be encouraged by their examples of love and service, especially today as we remember Your servant Martin of Tours, that following their examples, we may run the race that is before us and that fixing our eyes on Jesus, we too may take our place in the heavenly celebration. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends (John 15:12-13).

5 Gracious and loving Father, on this Veterans Day weekend, we pause as a nation to give You thanks for our freedom that we enjoy. We especially ask that You send down Your blessings on these Your servants, who so generously devote themselves to helping others: police, firefighters, medical workers, first responders. Grant them courage when they are afraid, wisdom when they must make quick decisions, strength when they are weary, and compassion in all their work. When they respond to calls, let them faithfully serve You in those they serve. Lord, in Your mercy, C: Hear our prayer. God of mercy we ask for blessings on all those who have served their country in the armed forces (moment of silence). We ask for healing for the veterans who have been wounded, in body and soul, in conflicts around the globe. We pray especially for the young men and women, in the thousands, who serve today, far from home. rotect them from harm and danger and bring them home to their loved ones. Lord, in Your mercy, C: Hear our prayer. C O God, the generations rise and pass away before You. You are the strength of those who labor; You are the rest of the blessed dead. We rejoice in the company of Your saints. Give us in time our portion with those who have trusted in You and have striven to do Your holy will. To Your Name, with the Church on earth and the Church in Heaven, we ascribe all honor and glory, now and forever. Amen. Heavenly Father, bless and protect Military Chaplains and fill them with the joy and courage of their vocation as personal ministers of Christ in preaching your word and nourishing us with the Sacraments. Guard and guide our country so that in our search for freedom and security we who are alive now may also be good and may not trample the rights of the innocent nor disregard the rule of law. It is indeed right and good, Lord God, holy Father, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, through Jesus Christ our Lord. You fulfilled Your promise to comfort Your people by sending Jesus the Redeemer, and to make all things new through Him when He comes to judge the world and set it right.
