Hallelujah! May is a wonderful month of true spring like weather. The ground warms up. The flowers really pop up and bloom. The trees bud out and even begin to leaf out. Of course the grass grows and needs to be cut and, really, all of nature sings. The rising up of life all around us truly affirms God s creative grace in the rising up the victorious Christ. As we rejoice in blossoming of spring may we be reminded that life is always renewing within us and around us. In the spring time we see this renewal in the earth. Yet at every time of our lives we can experience this renewal in our souls when we welcome into our lives the resurrected Christ. This month also brings new evidence of blooming life within our church family. Just a quick run down of life affirming events coming up for us in this month: May 2 nd is the 30 th Avon Walk Against Hunger. In 1985 our Interfaith Council re-affirmed our fight against hunger here and around the world by re-instituting the CROP Walk. A number of years ago as the need in our own community became greater the Interfaith Council decided to focus on hunger in Avon. This 30 th walk to fight hunger is a true affirmation of life within our community. May 8 th and 9 th we have our annual Spring Rummage Sale. We never quite know what will come in for the sale, but we can always be assured there will be lots of it. The clothes and household items that are donated are greatly appreciated as they enjoy a second and sometime third life in new hands and homes. Our community benefits from this cornucopia of abundance, and we as a church benefit through the fellowship and energy we share in this event. And there are the Mother s Day cakes!! What a treat to see the beautiful cakes that remind us our beautiful mothers! It is our beautiful mothers who remind us of the miracle of new life. It is so easy to get caught in our busy lives and sort of for- (Continued on page 2)

2 Page 2 (Continued from page 1) get that it was through the love, sacrifice and hard work of our mothers, and fathers, that have made our lives possible. A show on WXXI called Call the Midwife graphically shows in each episode just what a miracle birth is. On May 17 th we see the results of those miracles as our children present their Children s Sunday service. We are so blessed to have these young sisters and brothers in faith, and it is a joy to see them grow not only in their faith but also as fine young ladies and gentlemen. On May 24 th we remember those who have made it possible for us to continue to enjoy life in our great nation. On Memorial Day we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that our nation may live and thrive. On the 24 th we will also be dedicating recent memorials made in loving memory of loved ones who have passed on. Their lives have so enriched our lives, and our remembering them strengthens our resolve to do our best to live out their legacy of faith, service and love. As you can clearly see, May really is the month that gloriously re-affirms the life that is all around us and in us. Our faith is that all of this life is made possible through the creative love and grace of our divine creator. May we rejoice in this grand month of May. And may we give thanks of our loving God who gives us new life in every moment. In this way we will truly celebrate the new life that is ours in and through our risen Lord, the living Christ Jesus. On May 2, 2015 we will once again join in a walk against hunger here in the Town of Avon. We will meet at the Avon Village Hall at 8:30am, register and begin our walk through the village. Everyone is invited to walk, and if you cannot walk that day, please sponsor a walker. Last year we raised over $3, to fight hunger in our community. Please give generously this year. Thank you and thank you for 30 years of support of this vital ministry in our village and town.

3 Page 3 NEW! HOT OFF THE INTERNET! Thanks to Julie Mead, one of our Elders for Fun Raisers and Fellowship Activities, we now have our own Facebook page: First Presbyterian Church of East Avon. Check it out. Our 2 nd Annual Memorial Golf Tournament is featured at this time. More activities and events will appear in the coming months and years. This is a great way to communicate to our members and friends and to invite them into the life of our wonderful congregation. Thanks, Julie.
