3 Order of Worship The beginning of the prelude is a call to silent preparation for the worship of God. 3 Prelude Psalm 19:1-6 and Psalm 150 Translation and music by J. Fisher * Call to Worship * Gathering Songs * Hymn 462 I Love to Tell the Story Hankey * Song Jesus Paid It All Elvina M. Hall John Thomas Grape and Alex Nifong I hear the Savior say, Thy strength indeed is small. Child of weakness, watch and pray, find in me thine all in all. Cause Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow. Lord, now indeed I find Thy power and Thine alone, Can change the leper s spots and melt the heart of stone. Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow. And when before the throne I stand in Him complete, Jesus died my soul to save, my lips shall still repeat. Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow. Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow. O, praise the One who paid my debt and raised this life up from the dead. (4 times) * Corporate Prayer of Confession * Silent Prayer of Confession Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow O God, you do not change with the changing years, but we are creatures of time. As we look back at the road we have traveled, we give thanks for your faithful mercies along the way. Where the road has been dark, you have not failed us though we have often failed you. Forgive us we pray. You are our guide and our goal, our strength and our stay. In this new year, we would walk with you, for you alone can bring us to our journey s end in peace. In Jesus name we pray. Leslie Weatherhead * Assurance of Pardon One: Many: Friends, this is the Good News of the Gospel. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. * Passing of the Peace One: May the Peace of Christ be with you. Many: And also with you
4 Welcome and Announcements At the end of each pew is a Friendship Pad. Please indicate your presence by signing it and passing it along the row. Members, make a point to greet visitors sitting near you. Prayer for Illumination Owen Prem Scripture Reading Matthew 2:1-12 In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage. When King Herod heard this, he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him; and calling together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They told him, In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it has been written by the prophet: And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherd my people Israel. Then Herod secretly called for the wise men and learned from them the exact time when the star had appeared. Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, Go and search diligently for the child; and when you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage. When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road. One: Many: The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Sermon Gifts of the Magi Rev. Kevin J. Long * Hymn (see insert) I Surrender All W.S. Weeden Offering (See announcement pages for ways to give.) Offertory Adore Graham Kendrick & Martin Chalk arr. Jared Haschek & Dan Galbraith Julie Throckmorton, Jane Shadle, and Bill Shadle You stepped down from heaven. Humbly you came, God of all creation here with us in a starlit manger. Emmanuel, light of the world here to save. Refrain: Adore, come let us adore Him, the Lord. Worship Christ the Lord. Let all that is within us adore. Wise men bring their treasures. Shepherds bow low. Angel voices sing of peace on earth. What have I to offer to heaven s King? I will bring my life, my love, my all. Refrain Angels sing. Praises ring to the newborn King. Peace on earth, here with us, joy awakening. At your feet we fall. Refrain * Doxology (Hymn 606) Old Hundredth

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord; let the people rejoice! O come to the Father through Jesus the Son, And give him the glory: great things he has done! Great things he has taught us; great things he has done, and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son But purer and higher and greater will be our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. * Benediction Postlude * Those who are comfortably able may stand.
