When Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and School are CLOSED due to weather, there will be NO communion service, weekday mass, meetings, activities, or athletic events. School closure decisions are made by the superintendent s office, and will be announced on local radio/tv stations.

4 Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Louisville, KY Gospel Reflection The Holy Family experienced many of the same joys and trials that all parents and children experience today. And, so, we can look to this Family for help in our own family lives and see in them a model of stewardship in family life. The Gospel passage from Luke starts by telling us something about Jesus parents: Each year Jesus parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover, and when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom. This Family took seriously the stewardship of their time. The Holy Couple carefully observed the traditions and practice of their Jewish faith and brought up their Son to do the same. They worshiped as a family, and with their faith community. And they did so faithfully. We can take their example to heart by making Sunday Mass attendance a priority for our families, by making prayer with our family a priority every day, by making sure that we regularly celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and by observing in our family life the feasts and fasts appropriate to the liturgical calendar. When we, as families, prioritize our time with God and worship of Him we will be imitating the Holy Family. On this Feast of the Holy Family, let us reclaim the beauty and importance of family life. Let s commit to steward our families well in 2019, making time spent with God and practicing our faith the most important appointments on our family calendars. Summarization from Catholic Stewardship Consultants, Inc th Grade Service Project Catholic Charities Some of our 7th graders enthusiastically participated in an outreach project with Catholic Charities and adopted a family of 9 for Christmas. With a little help from Youth Ministry Coordinator Bill Ash, the students shopped for gifts, wrapped, and delivered them to a very grateful family. Many thanks to the students, their adult chaperones, and to Bill Ash for coordinating this project. Youth Service Opportunity Students in 4th grade and up are invited to join with Youth Ministry in service at the Catholic Charities Refugee Resource Warehouse (2226 W. Market St.) on Thursday, January 3. We will be sorting donated items such as clothes, household goods, toys, baby items and much more. We will leave Lourdes at 8:30 AM and finish the day with lunch at The Table restaurant in Portland. Contact Bill Ash for details and info, billa@ourlourdes.org. The Great TP Challenge Fr. Scott once again challenged our school students to donate toilet paper and help wipe out some of the need at the Sister Visitor Center. Father issued the challenge at the school mass for the Immaculate Conception, giving students a week to top results from the previous year. The need is great since TP is one of the items that cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits. As of this writing, all the TP has been delivered to the Sister Visitor Center and they are so very grateful for the donation. Thanks to all! This area is for drop offs and emergency vehicles; note that the curbs have been painted yellow. There are several handicap-designated parking spots nearby. Also please be aware that we have a ramp on the north side of the church. Please DO NOT BLOCK this ramp when parking on that side. We recently had a medical emergency during Sunday mass and EMS had difficulty navigating around a car blocking the ramp. We appreciate your cooperation! Please do not leave anything of any value visible in your car when parking on our campus. Always be aware of your surroundings, and always lock your doors! Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus will collect signatures for the January 20 pro-life signature ad that will appear in the Courier-Journal, in memory of some 60 million babies aborted since January 22, Right to Life of Louisville sponsors the ad, and suggests a donation is $5 per name or line. Catholic Sports Hall of Fame Congratulations to Lourdes Alumna Carmen Mims Noel ( 01) on her induction into the Catholic Sports Hall of Fame. Carmen is a ten-time state champion in cross country and track and field, and she is one of the most decorated distance runners in state history. Congratulations Carmen! Family Ministries Marriage moments January 1 is the feast of Mary, the Mother of God. In these days of the Me Too movement, regaining respect for women is getting a lot of attention. This is good, but healthy marriages already exhibit this. Husbands, tomorrow honor your wife s unconditional yes to love you. The love will be returned to you in time. Parenting pointers This is the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Often this feast gets lost amidst the hustle of Christmas.
