2017 ANNUAL REPORT FEBRUARY 4, 2018 Since many have undertaken to set down an orderly account of the events that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed on to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, I too decided, after investigating everything carefully from the very first, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the truth concerning the things about which you have been instructed. (Luke 1:1-4) An orderly account. That s what Luke set out to produce with the Gospel that bears his name. An orderly account that sets forth the occasion and purpose for his writing. Yet the opening sentence of Luke s Gospel seems to be both carefully worded and deliberately vague, simultaneously clarifying and obscuring. What does it really tell us, anyway, about what we ll read in the next 24 chapters about God s Son, Jesus Christ? You have before you an orderly account of the events that have been fulfilled here at the First Presbyterian Church of Salina in It is a summary of what the saints of God have done this year in the name of Jesus Christ and for the glory of God. It is orderly, in the decently and in order Presbyterian tradition, and it is an accounting, with all the necessary numbers. And, yet, like that dusty college or high school yearbook tucked away on a shelf, it offers only a two-dimensional, black-and-white hint of the Spirit-guided life, dedication, commitment and faithfulness of a particular people of God here in this particular place and time. My prayer is that it will stir not only memories of what has occurred, but that it also will inspire us in 2018 and beyond to envision the world as it could be through the eyes and the call of God. I give thanks to God for each and every one of you. Grace, Peace, and Blessings Pastor Charlie First Presbyterian Church 1

MISSION STATEMENT Led by Christ, Together in Faith and Love, We Joyfully Think, Question, Grow and Serve! Led by Christ...We are a Christian church, our first baptismal question is Who is your Lord and Savior?", and we are first and foremost as Christians, disciples of Jesus Christ, God made flesh, who has shown us in his life, ministry, death and resurrection the face and love of God. It is through Christ that we more fully understand who God is. Part of that understanding is that Christ, whom we follow, loved and welcomed all unconditionally, without exception. Together in Faith and Love...We are a community; we are shaped by our fellowship with each other. Love is what we are called to practice, faith is what grounds us. We joyfully...we don't just think, question, grow and serve, we do it joyfully, not because we have to, but because we get to engage with a God who loves us, we get to share God's love with others, and we get to work with others who lift us up. Think, Question...Our openness to questioning things and beliefs is one of our strengths. One of the foundational values of Presbyterians is that we don t check our brains at the door. We continue to think, to reason, to question, to discuss, and to explore, to discover God s Word and guidance for each one of us and for the church today. We will not tell you what you have to think, but we will encourage you to think for yourself and to offer opportunities to ask questions and to learn together. Grow and Serve... As Presbyterians we want people to grow in their understanding of who they are, of who God is, and of what it means to follow Jesus Christ. Our service is putting that growth into action. Ultimately, we are called to follow so that we can serve the world in Christ's name. Table of Contents Introduction by Rev. 11 ANNUAL REPORT FROM LEAD PASTOR/HEAD OF STAFF REV. DR. CHARLIE SMITH Last July, as part of a 29-year tradition, National Public Radio, using modern technology, used its Twitter account to disseminate the Declaration of Independence, line by line, to honor the nation s birthday. There, in 113 consecutive tweets, in 140-character increments, was the text of the treasured founding document of the United States, from its soaring opening to its searing indictments of King George III s absolute tyranny to its very last signature. It s probably no surprise, in this day and age, that the exercise did not go well. Perhaps it was the Founding Fathers capitalization of random words of the sentence fragments into which some of the Declaration s most recognizable lines were broken. But lots of Twitter users reacted angrily to the thread. NPR was accused, among other things, of trying to push an agenda. Online commenters called the exercise trash, spam and propaganda. The Presbyterian Church (USA) mandates that each of its churches regularly review its membership rolls. Our opportunity to do so will occur in The misunderstanding over the Declaration of Independence seems similar to many people s reactions to the regular, common ritual in which we ask you to evaluate your own level of commitment to First Presbyterian Church, Salina, and the anxious reaction that such a question usually causes. The evangelical pastor of a Dallas megachurch, Todd Wagner, says: What most people in church really need is not a move from membership to discipleship, but rather a drastic move from attendance to membership. From God s standpoint, membership (connection to His body) is supposed to be synonymous with discipleship (connection to him). One piece of evidence displaying what most people really think (not believe) about the Church is found in two commonly used words: regular attender. It is not a good thing that we have accepted and perhaps also tragically made it acceptable to think that there is such a biblical thing as a regular attender in the Church. What if I suggested that regular attenders if they are defined as believers who attend church services and events without being attentive to the call of Christ on their lives every other hour of their week should more accurately be called irregular believers? At Wagner s church, every January, membership goes back to zero and rebuilds one by one. There s no such thing as once a member, always a member with no questions asked. Each January, all believers are invited to re-up, and all irregular believers are asked to reevaluate their lack of commitment to being a part of something greater than themselves. Every year, we ask every member to self-evaluate and then share their evaluation with those they care for, pray for, and live life with in their community groups so they can review, affirm, discuss, and sharpen one another in their walks with Christ. (Todd Wagner, Come and See) That doesn t sound all that much different from the definition of the ministry of members in the PC(USA) Book of Order: Membership in the Church of Jesus Christ is a joy and a privilege. It is also a commitment to participate in Christ s mission. A faithful member bears witness to God s love and grace and promises to be involved responsibly in the ministry of Christ s Church. Such involvement includes: Proclaiming the good news in word and deed Taking part in the common life and worship of a congregation Lifting one another up in prayer, mutual concern, and active support Studying Scripture and the issues of Christian faith and life Supporting the ministry of the church through the giving of money, time, and talents Demonstrating a new quality of life within and through the church Responding to God s activity in the world through service to others Living responsibly in the personal, family, vocational, political, cultural, and social relationships of life Working in the world for peace, justice, freedom, and human fulfillment Participating in the governing responsibilities of the church, and Reviewing and evaluating regularly the integrity of one s membership, and considering ways in which one s participation in the worship and service of the church may be increased and made more meaningful. (G ) As we begin our lives together in 2018, how might you self-evaluate your level of commitment as a member of FPC? Among the highlights of 2017 was the journey taken together by more than 80 members in the Bible in 90 Days program. Other highlights included the annual Bee the Church mission workday, our annual summertime Worship at the Manor, with a camping theme, and our salute to 1942 on All Saints Sunday. Going into 2018 we joyfully await the journey together with our new Associate Pastor, Keith Phillips. I remain grateful for the time, talents and dedication of the entire staff: Tricia Cobb, who has now stepped down from her role as Director of Youth Ministries; Shelby Dickson, Director of Christian Education; Office Manager Melanie Spiess, Communications Coordinator Beth Cormack; Music Director Richard Koshgarian and Organist Angie Koshgarian; Daytime Custodian Ed Zoch and Custodian Tony Griggs. I also thank God for our outstanding elders and deacons, the many volunteers who serve behind the scenes, and the rest of the saints here at FPC. To God be the glory! I love being your pastor! 12 2017 COMMITTEE REPORTS ADULT EDUCATION The Adult Education committee members are Becky Cram, Jeff Hayes, Tina Ralston and Pastor Charlie Smith. This committee currently meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month, in the Hope Room, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. This year Adult Education continued to support the offering of Yoga at FPC, with classes lead by Cathy Hayes on Wednesdays from 5-6 pm. This is a spiritual time for breathing, stretching, meditating, and praying together. Cathy presents thoughtful and spiritual programs and all ages and levels of participation are welcome. The 2017 year saw a variety of Sunday morning Adult Education Classes, usually meeting in the Hope Room at the church from 9:00-9:50 a.m. We began the year with a Horizons Bible Study Journeys Through Revelation, Apocalyptic Hope for Today, running from January 8th until the end of February. This series provided participants with a clear and no-nonsense way of understanding the Book of Revelation. We then provided a different kind of book study, presented by church member Katie Lidgett, written by Rachel Held Evans, and titled A Year of Biblical Womanhood. The class ran from March 5th to April 9th. This book was a whimsical way to look at the Old Testaments and how righteous, religious women were expected to live. It was a wonderful way to learn about the women in the Bible. Before Easter worship, we held an Easter Trivia game in the parlor before church. Jeff Hayes brought delicious homemade treats from the school program Opportunity Now in which Special Education students participate in the catering and production of food items. For the first time ever, our church participated in the Gifts of Women program that is held at Presbyterian churches around the nation. We were challenged to help plan and participate in a March 5th service. Our church has been blessed many times over with the gifts of our members so finding women to participate was not difficult. The theme was Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart. We were also treated to Diana s first sermon!! It was a definite stand-out moment in the year for our church. We hope to hear more from her in 2018! We offered a DVD based study after Easter until the end of June, Seeking Allah & Finding Jesus by Nabeel Qureshi. There was a companion book to go with the DVD session every week. This class was offered after church services on Sunday to provide a Christian education opportunity a little later in the day. Mr. Qureshi was a true believer and shared many personal details of his transformation from a Muslim to a Christian. Sydney Soderberg and Martha Rhea developed a fantastic Summer Soul-stice program this summer Do Justice.Love Mercy...Are you Kidding? Beginning June 6th and running through August 8th, there were various topics and speakers to engage and enlighten participants. The biggest program of the year that our committee supported was the B90 program in which participants read the Bible in 90 days. With the leadership of Charlie, this group grew to the size of 75+ participants! Many attended a weekly meeting that started with a showing of a DVD reviewing the reading material of that week and ended with a lively discussion between members. Those who completed the program celebrated together at the end of November. In September for the church program Bee the Church we paired with the Personnel committee to invite the Love, Chloe group to come to our church. We learned how to pack Monkey in my Chair backpacks for kids that have to miss school due to time away at hospitals treating illnesses. For the Advent season, the Bible study class was based on an Adam Hamilton DVD titled The Journey. This program followed the steps of Joseph and Mary through the inception and birth of Jesus Christ. The DVD provided the historical context of this time period, and showed us the cities they lived in and the roads they may have travelled. We continued a monthly women s Bible study through Presbyterian Women Horizons Bible Study, Who is Jesus? that met the first Monday of the month, in the Hope Room from 5:30-6:30 p.m. This Bible study began October 2016 and ran through June After taking the summer off, the women s Bible study group began a new group in October through Presbyterian Women Horizons Bible Study, Cloud of Witnesses: The Community of Christ in Hebrews. This study has been a new way of looking at our beliefs about our community and growing our faith together. The committee was happy to again support the program Walk to Bethlehem which started in October. With the leadership of Diana Smith and support of Brigid Hall, the congregation turned in their miles and made it to Bethlehem and beyond before Christmas. First Presbyterian Church 9

We came together before the Children s Christmas Program to play Advent & Christmas Trivia in the parlor. Many participated and learned about Advent and other fun Christmas related subjects and had a great time together. We welcome any questions you may have regarding Adult Education and our programs. You may us at adulteducation@fpcsalina.org or attend any meeting. Tina Ralston, Committee Chairman CHILDREN, YOUTH & YOUNG ADULT 2017 was another great year for the young children and youth of FPC and their families. We have had an eventful and exciting year with a group full of amazing children, youth, young adults and families. Here are a few highlights of the year in review: We have committed to bi-monthly meetings and to rotating the responsibility of meeting moderator and secretary to all members of the committee to be more family driven than church driven. We served a pasta dinner on January 26 to Circles of the Heartland. Our committee works alongside Sunrise Presbyterian Church to co-host a week-long Heartland Day Camp for the youth at FPC, Sunrise Presbyterian and others. We are pleased to offer scholarships to two FPC young adults who work at the Heartland Day Camp. We are grateful that Britton Zuccarelli is assisting Shelby with the FBI program, as well as Betty Norman. Jacob and Shelby Dickson lead the Mid-High weekly Tuesday God Squad dinners and fellowship. Randy Graham and Dylan Boyd lead the weekly Senior-High fellowship gatherings at Mokas on Thursday mornings. Sarah Payne and Penni White retired as assistants for the FBI Program. Tricia Cobb retired from the Mid and Senior High Leader position. Ashley Jarvis agreed to serve as Moderator as Todd Davidson transitioned out of Session. Todd continues to serve on the CYYA Committee. The Children and Families, and the Youth and Young Adult Committee, merged to form the Children, Youth and Young Adult Committee. The committee now serves all ages of youth at FPC from infant to Senior High. Debb Homman continues to lead our nursery in her role as Nursery Coordinator. Our committee helped to bring new Barbies and dress up clothes to the nursery. We have been fortunate to add Britton Zuccarelli and Lainey Bratt as new members to our committee. Activities were created, provided and set up to entertain children during the MidWeek Manna services. While Chris Cakes entertained and served delicious pancakes prior to the Shrove Tuesday service, CYYA coordinated the popular pancake races. We hosted our 4th Annual Easter Egg Hunt where the kids had a great time and celebrated this meaningful holiday with their family and friends. The founder of the Love Chloe/Monkey in My Chair Foundation spoke to the FBI children and provided a volunteer opportunity during the Wednesday program. Five dollars per child in FBI program was donated to the Love Chloe Foundation. The monetary donation was a portion of the funds the children earned during the Christmas Craft and Bake Sale. Our committee participated in Rally Sunday and participated in Bee the Church by assembling Happy Bear Kits for CAPS in Salina. We enjoy hosting events for our children and families which included a Back to School picnic complete with hot dogs, backpack blessings and a bounce house; a Back to School Kick-Off Skating Party with ice cream sandwiches; Bowling at All Star Lanes; and the End of the Year Pizza Party at the City. We enjoyed the FBI Children s Christmas Program and the Craft and Bake Sale. FBI children wore their new FBI T- shirts for the program. The Craft and Bake Sale raised over $500- thanks to all of those who purchased goods and donated; the funds will be used for future children s service projects! Milk and cookies were delivered to Mid and Senior High students during finals week and care packages were assembled and delivered to college students. We support our students in the spring and the fall. We welcomed Associate Pastor Keith Phillips to our committee and look forward to working with him. We look forward to the Children s Sabbath on April 22. First Presbyterian Church 10

Following the worship service, a soup lunch was served to honor the Veterans. CCN served 64 attendees. Appetizers for Eight May, June and July saw small groups of churchgoers sign up for and gather for these social occasions. FPC Directory During November (2017), December (2017) and January (2018), church members were asked to either send in a photograph to the church office or have their picture taken following a worship service. These pictures along with family/individual information will make up the new FPC Directory. CCN Budget Finished the year under budget. This committee had extraordinary people who gave an amazing amount of love, time, and commitment to FPC Salina. Thank you CCN Committee for everything each of you did during First Presbyterian Church 11

BOARD OF DEACONS During 2017, The Board of Deacons concentrated on their primary mission caring for our church members when they are ill; when they suffer painful family losses; when they are confined to their homes; when they make the transition to independent/assisted living facilities; collaborating with other committees to provide special events for church members; working with families, to implement meaningful memorial services. In 2017, the Deacons: participated in member visitation (each Deacon is assigned to a church member, contacting them on a regular basis) provided food ministry outreach through our software program, Take them a Meal. Meal recipients included those who had returned home after hospitalization or experienced an illness, suffered a death in their immediate family, welcomed a new baby, moved into a new home, prepared to move away from Salina, and needed meal preparation for other challenging life events. provided meals/receptions following a funeral or memorial service at FPC. delivered chancel flowers after each Sunday service to a homebound member or individuals who were celebrating a birthday or anniversary. arranged for poinsettias and Easter plant delivery to designated members and friends of the congregation. raised money for the Salina entity, Laundry Love. participated in preparing meals for the Circles of the Heartland program. assisted with church, Presbyterian Manor, and home communion. coordinated and furnished weekly bus transportation from Presbyterian Manor for the Sunday worship service, in collaboration with Sunrise Presbyterian Church. collaborated with other church committees, staff, to issue prayer requests for all members and friends. Ann Knowles, Moderator, Board of Deacons MEMORIAL COMMITTEE During the past year First Presbyterian Church has received $19, in memorial gifts. These gifts are very much appreciated as they are used to enhance the mission and ministry of the church beyond the range of the current budget. When the family of a deceased FPC member designates the church for memorials for their loved one, a letter from the Memorial Committee is sent acknowledging this designation and thanking the family for their decision. As memorial gifts are received, the family is informed of these donations. Additionally, the donor of a memorial gift is sent a note to acknowledge their memorial gift. After an appropriate period of time, the family is informed of the total amount of the gifts and the Memorial Committee offers them several options for use of the gifts. These options include placing the gifts in the Endowment Fund, Reimold Mission Fund, Undesignated Fund, Radio Broadcast Fund, or in other projects authorized by the Session. The Memorial Committee meets quarterly to review gifts. On the Sunday nearest Memorial Day each May, memorial gifts received in the past year are recognized and the lives that these gifts represent are celebrated during worship. The 2017 Memorial Committee met quarterly to review gifts received and the decisions of families as to how the gifts were used. Sydney Soderberg, 2017 Personnel Committee Chair SOCIAL JUSTICE & MISSION The Social Justice and Mission Committee is a reflection of the church s efforts to serve the larger community and world beyond the walls of our church building. This report summarizes those efforts in Over the past year, the Committee met most every month. The committee oversees FPC s significant relationship with Circles of the Heartland, which assists families and individuals working out of poverty by establishing matched partnerships with volunteers, known as Allies, who befriend and lend support to the families. Circles occupies space here at FPC, and our Committee helps coordinate and provide Circles dinners on the fourth Thursday of each month. Many in the congregation help with Circles dinners. In the spring, our Committee met over dinner to discuss how we can all better communicate with one another in a world that seems more polarized than ever. The Committee also spent a good deal of time discussing the refugee crisis and the role FPC can play in addressing this humanitarian issue. FPC sent a Mission Team to Guatemala for the sixth consecutive year. The team members devoted an abundance of time, talent and energy in preparation of the actual trip. The team also held fundraising events and gave a post-trip report to the congregation. While in Guatemala, the team joined in community development ministries.

In the summer months, the Committee helped with work Saturday s in the summer for the benefit of our neighbors at Ashby House. In September, the Committee participated in Rally Sunday, which was an opportunity to share our activities and upcoming service opportunities and we helped organize Hurricane Relief Buckets on Bee the Church Sunday. The Committee also administered the Church s annual Support of Local Agencies and International Benevolence Allocations. These disbursements, made in part at mid-year and at year s end, reflect the church s commitment to devoting 15% of its income to mission BENEVOLENCE ALLOCATIONS In addition to allocating 15% of the General Budget to mission, FPC is blessed by two special funds, established by Pearl & J.E. STEWARDSHIP The 2018 Stewardship Campaign theme was More Than Enough. The theme was taken from 2 Corinthians 9:8 (CEV), which says God can bless you with everything you need, and you will always have more than enough to do all kinds of good things for others. The fall campaign called attention to the dynamic, ever changing life of our church. We experience the difficult loss of longtime members who pass and we celebrate the new families that God has called to join us. First Presbyterian Church 14

Bruce H. Wyatt, Chair of Worship Committee First Presbyterian Church 15 Members were reminded that our beautiful church home is ever-aging and requires increasing attention and expense to preserve its beauty. With that in mind, members were encouraged to prayerfully consider increasing their pledge by 5%, 10% or 15% for the coming year. We were very pleased with the response and the generosity from the congregation to this challenge! We are excited to share that the campaign concluded with an increase in pledges of about $25,000 over last year, with 88 pledges increasing, as compared to 60 pledge increases the previous year. The following is the summary of this year s successful call to God s service: We received 154 pledges for a total of $482,974.80, that will be put to good use towards funding the mission of First Presbyterian Church in 2018! 13 New Pledges $10, Increased $319, Same $118, Decreased $34, Pledges $482, Thank you to this year s Stewardship Committee members, Kathy Hanson, Martha Rhea, Amanda Michaelis, for their hard work and a special thanks to staff members, Beth Cormack, Melanie Spiess and Pastor Charlie Smith for their efforts, their support and their talents. Most of all, our sincerest thank you to all those who pledged their continued financial support, along with their time and talents, to make FPC a special place to worship, and to joyfully think, grow, question and serve. Randy Graham and Peter Johnston, Co-Chairs WORSHIP & MUSIC Once again, the Committee recognizes and applauds the outstanding performances and dedication of our Choir under the leadership of Dr. Richard Koshgarian and the beautiful accompaniment by Angie Koshgarian. How about that Hymn Festival just a great new innovation to go along with the wonderfully spiritual Easter Cantata and the Christmas Lessons and Carols. As a Church, we are so very appreciative of this meaningful part of our worship service. Rev. Dr. Charlie Smith has continued to engage and challenge the congregation during the Sunday services and throughout the week. Bee The Church Sunday, the blessing of the backpacks, the Tartan Sunday with bagpipes, recognition of our present and former members who have served in the armed forces, are to name just a few of Charlie s engaging approaches to our Sunday Worship Service. The innovative MidWeek Manna Service has entered its second year of providing an alternative or additional service to members and non-members who find the Wednesday night service and meal a good fit for their lifestyle and schedules. The Committee led a full review of the Service at a joint meeting with the Congregational Care and Nurture Committee on June 14, As a result the Service was renewed for a second year with the support of those attending the meeting. The Committee worked with Beth Cormack to design and then implement a survey during the MidWeek Manna services in October, The responses to the survey led to a Committee discussion of who was attending and for what reasons to better understand the effectiveness of this Service. The need for increased publication of this Service was one of the conclusions of the Committee. Mary Andersen, the incoming Chair of the Committee, deserves special recognition for her work during the year in managing the recruitment and operation of the many volunteers that are necessary for the smooth operation of the Church during Sunday services and other times. Mary Anne Weiner deserves special recognition as well for her work over the years in lining up the folks who come early and stay late preparing the communion elements. Other activities during the last year included a discussion of security during the worship service with a recommendation to the Session to examine this issue in light of recent national events, review of children s attendance in the Worship service, and the funding of Circles of the Heartland meals. As this is my last report as Committee Chair, I wish to again thank the Committee members for their support and hard work, namely Connie Johnson, Mary Andersen, Dr. Richard Koshgarian, Mary Anne Weiner, Stan Amick and the Rev. Dr. Charlie Smith.

2017 MINUTES OF CONGREGATIONAL MEETINGS ANNUAL MEETING OF THE CONGREGATION First Presbyterian Church of Salina, Kansas January 29, 2017 A meeting of the congregation of First Presbyterian Church, Salina, Kansas, was called to order at 10:00 a.m. in Blair Hall at FPC, by Pastor Charlie Smith. Pastor Smith opened the meeting with prayer. The Clerk of Session declared a well fed quorum was in attendance. The congregation had just finished sharing a breakfast of pancakes and sausage. Randy Graham, Clerk of Session, reviewed with the congregation the 2016 Statistical Report, calling particular attention to the 21 new members, the deaths of the 7 members in the past year, and the baptisms of 3 children. Worship attendance and other program attendance numbers were available. All Committees of Session and the entire First Presbyterian Staff were highlighted in the Annual Report. Mr. Graham invited questions. The minutes of the January 31, 2016 Annual Congregational Meeting and four Called Congregational Meetings were published in the Annual Report and made available to the congregation both prior to and at the meeting. All these minutes had been previously approved by Session. Pastor, Dr. Charlie Smith addressed the congregation. He shared that FPC is a church on the MOVE. While we should be proud of the past year s accomplishments, there is still much to do. Pastor Smith conveyed how happy he is to serve as our pastor and how much he and his wife, Diana, also enjoy the church and the community. He expressed his sincere gratitude for the time, talents and dedication of the entire staff, the elders, deacons and trustees, all the committees and volunteers and the saints that served before us. Session Committee chairs stood one by one and provided insightful reviews of the work of their committees in the past year. These verbal reviews were presented with intentional references to the two morning scriptures and were supplemented by written reports within the Annual Report. Pastor Charlie saluted our talented choir and it s Director Richard Koshgarian. Richard then expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the choir members. Margaret Wyatt, Treasurer, presented the 2017 Budget. Margaret shared that we were blessed to have had healthy budget reserves at the start of 2016 and to have added to those reserves during the year. Reserves created in 2016 came primarily from lower than anticipated utility expenses and a lower personnel expense due to the absence of a Designated Associate Pastor for the last five months of the year. Margaret informed the congregation that much of the reserve balance would be utilized to supplement the 2017 Budget and to fund the balance of the HVAC replacement project. Margaret referred the members to the written 2017 Budget in the Annual Report and then solicited questions from the congregation. The 2017 Budget, previously approved by Session, was then received by the congregation. Pastor Charlie turned the meeting over to Randy Graham, Clerk of Session, and then left the room while Randy presented the Terms of Call for Pastor Charlie for The Clerk explained that it is the responsibility and honor of the congregation to approve the pastor s Terms of Call. The terms were prepared by the members of the Personnel Committee and had been presented to the Session for their review and endorsement, prior to being presented to the congregation. Upon a motion from the floor and a second, those present unanimously approved the proposed terms. Pastor Charlie returned to the room to a rousing applause. He once again thanked the congregation for their support and expressed that he loved being our pastor. There being no other business to be conducted, the meeting was adjourned by the Moderator with a closing prayer at 11:10 a.m. Rev. Dr. Charlie Smith, Moderator Randy Graham, Clerk of Session First Presbyterian Church 16

MINUTES OF CALLED CONGREGATIONAL MEETING First Presbyterian Church of Salina, Kansas July 9, 2017 A meeting of the congregation of First Presbyterian Church, Salina, Kansas was called to order at 11:05 a.m. in the sanctuary. Pastor Charlie Smith, Moderator, called the meeting to order with prayer. Randy Graham, Clerk of Session, declared a quorum was present. On behalf of the Nominating Committee, the Clerk presented a motion to approve all of the following: The nomination of Andy England to fill a Session vacancy slot in the Class of The nomination of Brandon Gary to fill a Trustee vacancy in the Class of The nomination of Deb Shetlar to fill a Session vacancy to serve from August thru December The nomination of Linda Johnson to fill a Session vacancy to serve from August thru December The Clerk then opened the nominations to the floor. Hearing none, the nominations ceased and the Clerk requested and received a second to the Nominating Committee motion. The motion passed unanimously. There being no further business to be conducted, the meeting was adjourned at 11:15 a.m. with a closing prayer. Rev. Dr. Charlie Smith, Moderator Randy Graham Clerk of Session, MINUTES OF CALLED CONGREGATIONAL MEETING First Presbyterian Church of Salina, Kansas December 3, 2017 Rev. Dr. Charlie Smith, Moderator Randy Graham, Clerk of Session First Presbyterian Church 17

MINUTES OF CALLED CONGREGATIONAL MEETING First Presbyterian Church of Salina, Kansas December 10, 2017 A meeting of the congregation of First Presbyterian Church, Salina, Kansas was called to order at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. Pastor Charlie Smith, Moderator, called the meeting to order with prayer. Randy Graham, Clerk of Session declared a quorum was present. The members of the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee (APNC), Ashley Jarvis, Chair, Mary Andersen, Annie Hayes, Kathleen Putzier and Becky Maguffee, came to the front of the sanctuary. Melanie Hancock, Transitional General Presbyter, Presbytery of Northern Kansas was in attendance, along with the Associate Pastor candidate, Keith Phillips. Keith Phillips was then escorted out of the meeting. The Moderator called Ashley Jarvis to the lectern, where Ashley presented the motion from the APNC to recommend that candidate Keith Phillips be called to serve as Associate Pastor for First Presbyterian Church of Salina, Kanas, under the Terms of Call, as previously set out and made available in the church office, for review by members of the congregation. The start date would be January 1, Since the motion came from a committee, no second was required. APNC member, Becky Maguffee, spoke on behalf of the committee. She shared some about the process, conveying that the committee had been working for about one year. During that time they had reviewed over ninety Personal Information Forms (P.I.F.s) from candidates seeking an Associate Pastor position. The committee conducted five Skype interviews and brought two candidates to Salina for a visitation and interview. Becky informed those in attendance that the decision to call Keith, was unanimous. Becky shared that Keith has a strong interest in intergenerational church life/ministry and is enthusiastic about working with youth and families. The committee believes that Keith and FPC are an excellent fit. Pastor Charlie, the Moderator, shared that Keith has a love of sports, a love shared by Pastor Charlie and that there is even a connection to Salina. Keith s grandfather was stationed at Schilling Air Force Base in the early 1960s. Keith s mother lived here at that time. Then, the Moderator asked if there were any questions of the APNC or any comments from the floor. Hearing none, the Moderator called for the distribution of written ballots and provided instructions that votes could be cast by Active Members of the congregation. Ballot choices were Yes, No and Abstain. Ballots were collected by the four ushers that served during the worship service. The ushers then sorted the ballots and tallied the votes, with assistance from the Clerk of Session, while the congregation sang Christmas hymns. The results of the vote, 110 Yes votes, 3 Abstain votes and 0 No votes, were shared with candidate, Keith, so that he could discern if he would accept the call. At the same time, the results were provided to the Moderator to share with the congregation. Candidate Keith was then escorted back into the meeting to a rousing applause from the congregation. The Moderator, Pastor Charlie Smith, then asked Keith if he would accept the call and he did so joyfully, emotionally and emphatically, while thanking the congregation for their support. The Moderator then asked for a motion and a second from the floor to dissolve the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee and thank them so very much for all their sterling service. After a motion and a second, there was a unanimous vote to dissolve the committee. There being no other business to come before the meeting, the Moderator closed with prayer and the meeting was adjourned to the parlor for celebration with our newly elected Associate Pastor at 11:25 a.m. Rev. Dr. Charlie Smith, Moderator Randy Graham, Clerk of Session First Presbyterian Church 18
