The Praise Pulse A Publication of Praise Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana May 2016 A SALUTE TO THOSE WHO SERVE By Sandy Wright A Salute To Those Who Serve Pastor Randy, Property Ministry, Shepherd s House, Thrivent Choice Prayer Chain, Thank You, Newsletter Deadline, Birthdays & Anniversaries Pray For Us Worship for Shut-Ins Calendar In This Issue Amateur Radio Military Appreciation Day (ARMAD) will be held at Praise on Saturday, May 28, 2016 from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. This event honors and shows appreciation to our troops, veterans, first responders and their families. There's a short program that includes elected officials, active duty troops, veterans and members from military support groups. Also included is live two way communication with troops and veterans worldwide. Guests are offered an opportunity to speak to those on the air if they desire to do so. This is a free event with lunch being served. In the church office/narthex are extra flyers, and also letters requesting donations for this event. If your place of employment allows you to post flyers, please pick some up and take them to work. We want to pass the word around so we can honor those who have served in some capacity. If you think your employer, or any business you are familiar with, would be interested in making a donation to ARMAD, please take a letter to them. To make this day a success, we need many donations. The Outreach committee needs volunteers to help out on the 28th. If you can help, or if you need more information, contact Mike Lehman at The next meeting will be Friday, April 29th at 6 p.m. You can attend and find out exactly what is needed. Please help spread the word about ARMAD; be sure to mark your calendars. We hope to see you here on May 28th.
The Praise Pulse Page 2 Property Ministry Spring, 2016 May is a month for moving. Now before you get out the boxes and start clearing the shelves hold that thought. May is a moving month because we are moving from winter time to spring (a least we live in hope for that). We are moving into more holidays coming up: Mother s Day, Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day. So there is moving involved, just not needing boxes to do it. It is good for us to reflect on these moves toward honoring those who we celebrate for these various holidays. A thank you going out to Mom s for all the things you do. We are grateful. For Armed Forces and Memorial Day to remember to thank someone who has served in the military and for what they have done. Since 911 I have made it a habit to purposefully thank police, fire and military personnel for their serving us. We cannot thank them enough. As we move in May, we can be thankful that God never moves. That He is the same: yesterday, today and forever Heb 13:8 So let s be thankful in May, first that God never moves. He is always the same and loves us the same. Second, that we can lift pray of thanks for all those who serve us in so many ways: public servants (fire, police) and those who are or have been in military. THANK YOU TO OUR LORD IN HEAVEN FOR YOU ALL! I AM BLESSED YOU ARE BLESSED PASTOR RANDY Praise purchased 30 new chairs and 2 nice tables for the Narthex from Goodwill thanks to Mike and Lynette Lehman and using their discounts very nice for our round tables. Filters being changed seasonally and all the carpet was cleaned in the education wing excellent job by Office Pride, our regular maintenance company. Working on selling odd equipment we have had stored in the shed so there are some funds for some parking lot/concrete work. Susan Till Property Ministry (260) The Thrivent Choice program is an easy way for eligible members to recommend how Thrivent Financial should distribute a portion of its charitable outreach funds each year. If you are an eligible Thrivent member you may want to consider directing your Choice Dollars to Praise Lutheran Church or Little Praisers Preschool & Child Care. Outreach continues to collect donations for Shepherd's House. Collection basket in the narthex, list of donations that are needed is next to it, please take one. Happy Mother s Day!

INTERNATIONAL THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION MAY 1 15 Theological education is one of the six mission priorities of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), and it forms an integral part of LCMS mission work around the world. The Synod s theological education efforts take various forms in different contexts to effectively meet people s specific needs around the world. Remember God s work through international theological education as you pray: for the Synod s Global Seminary Initiative (GSI), which helps to fill the need for trained church leaders who are native to the region and cultures in which they serve. Pray that God would guide this program to strengthen the formation of pastors and deaconesses around the world. 2. for the safety and well-being of LCMS professors and pastors who travel overseas to teach seminars and intensive courses for our current and emerging church partners. 3. for the international students who come to the Synod s seminaries to study, that God would grant them safe travels and comfort while away from family and friends. 4. that Lutheran pastors all over the world would have access to the necessary books and resources to equip them for the proper teaching of Law and Gospel. 5. with thanksgiving for the Synod s generous donors, who make it possible for the LCMS to support theological education in many different locations around the world. 6. for the health and safety of LCMS missionaries who live and work in foreign lands to help strengthen the theological education taking place there. Give thanks to God that these faithful families have heeded His call to serve their brothers and sisters in Christ in this way. 7. for the ministry carried out through the Westfield House of Theological Studies in Cambridge, England. This ministry touches future pastors of England and also provides training for leaders from many other church bodies in other parts of the world. 8. for the Lutheran Center for Theological Studies (CLET) in Togo, which provides theological training for men and women from French-speaking countries in West Africa. 9. for projects that translate Christian materials into the heart language of different people groups. Pray especially for the ongoing work of translating Luther s Works into Chinese that is taking place in Hong Kong. 10. that God would bless the work of all those He calls into the ministry around the world. 11. for the new deaconess formation program in the Dominican Republic. Please ask God to bless the work of the LCMS deaconesses serving as missionaries in Latin America who are overseeing the creation of this program. 12. for opportunities for fellowship and continuing education for Lutheran church workers in Europe, who are spread out over a large geographic area. 13. for the seminaries of LCMS partner churches around the world. Pray that they would faithfully educate future leaders for their churches. 14. with thanksgiving for the Gospel multiplication that happens when pastors are equipped to teach their flocks and train new leaders for the church. 15. that God would continue to grow His Church on earth. Pray that the Lord would continue to raise up church planters and mission developers according to His good and gracious will.
The Praise Pulse Page 5 SEMINARY EDUCATION MAY God has blessed the LCMS with two excellent seminaries: Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind. Through a combination of residential and distance education programs, they form pastors, deaconesses and theological leaders to faithfully and accurately teach the Gospel. This month, the LCMS celebrates and gives thanks to God for His blessings on these two institutions. Remember God s work through the Synod s seminaries as you pray: 16. with thanksgiving for Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and its president, the Rev. Dr. Dale Meyer. Please pray that this institution would continue to be a place where pastors and deaconesses are properly prepared for service to the Church. 17. with thanksgiving for Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., and its president, the Rev. Dr. Lawrence Rast Jr. Please ask that God would continue to guide this institution as it shapes future servants of the Church. 18. for the faculty members of the seminaries, that they would always be faithful to the truth and purity of God s Word in their duties. 19. for the support staff of the seminaries, that they would find fulfillment in their work as they lift up the needs of those who teach and those who learn. 20. for the pastoral candidates who received their first calls at the end of April. Please ask God to be with them during the transition from seminary to parish life. 21. for the deaconess candidates who recently received placements, that they would find joy in reflecting the mercy of God and teaching the faith wherever God has placed them. 22. for seminarians going on vicarage and deaconess students who received internship assignments. Pray that this hands-on experience would faithfully shape them to do Christ s work throughout their lives. 23. that the Lord would provide relief for all church workers who struggle with educational debt for those who will begin their seminary studies this summer and fall. Pray that God would bless their time of study with joy and diligence. 25. with thanksgiving for the many LCMS congregations, members and organizations that provide groceries and other items to the seminaries food banks. Many seminary families rely on this vital assistance. 26. for pre-seminary programs that prepare young men to enter seminary. Pray that these programs would provide a solid foundation for future study. 27. for all congregations that requested but did not receive a new pastor, that they would not lose heart as they await God s gift of a shepherd, remembering that God is always faithful and will provide in His time. 28. for young people who are considering a career in church work. Ask the Lord to guide young people to seek His will for their lives. 29. that the Lord would continue to provide for the physical needs of seminary families, who often give up regular employment to follow His call into the pastoral ministry. 30. for specialized programs like Concordia Seminary s Deaf Institute of Theology and the Center for Hispanic Studies, that God would use them to quip theologically trained leaders to share His Word of grace with all people. 31. that God would continue to bless the LCMS Joint Seminary Fund, which collects approximately $2 million each year to help decrease student educational costs. Candidates for ministry attend worship April 29, 2014, during Call Day in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.
The Praise Pulse Page 6 May, 2016 May 1, 2016 John 16:33b Overcoming the World by Rev. Dr. Walter A. Maier III, Concordia Theological Seminary~Fort Wayne, IN The wicked, unbelieving world, moved by Satan, is opposed to God, His Word, and His people. Thus believers in this world will have tribulation. But Christ has overcome the world, and He helps us overcome the world. May 8, 2016 Luke 24:44-53 So Close and Yet So Far by Rev. James L. Elsner, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church~Stroh, IN Jesus is gone. He s left us. Or has He? The Ascension of Jesus teaches us that He reins with us - even while He s in heaven. How can that be? May 15, 2016 Acts 2:1-11 The Pentecost Harvest by Rev. Dr. Daniel J. Brege, St. Paul Lutheran Church~Decatur, IN God would use the Jewish Feast of Pentecost. It not only prefigured God's harvest of souls for eternal life, but the actual day provided a wonderfully designed opportunity for many Jews, from many regions, to hear the wonderful news of the Savior, the bringer of true peace. May 22, 2016 John 8:48-59 God s Own Child by Rev. Dr. Lawrence R. Rast, Jr., President, Concordia Theological Seminary~Fort Wayne, IN The Holy Trinity is one of the great mysteries of the faith. Yet, through Jesus Christ, we come to know God as our Father. Through the waters of baptism the Holy Spirit gives us the gift of faith. Therefore each of us can gladly say, I am God s own child! May 29, 2016 Luke 7:1-10 A Soldier s Faith by Rev. William Mueller, Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church~Fort Wayne, IN An unnamed soldier has a need that only the Lord Jesus Christ can fulfill. In the encounter between this soldier and the Savior we see the heart of faith and the glory of God.
