2 Your place for weekly news and updates! To those who traveled over Spring Break, we hope you had a wonderful time with friends and family, but we re glad you re back home! Your church family misses you when you aren t here! Coming up this week we have an Easter Egg hunt for the younger children (thanks to Bob & Mary McIndoo for hosting!) and a youth devotional (thanks to Micah & Jami Busbey for hosting!) for the older kids. For many people, chocolate and candy is a way they mark the Easter holiday (Hint: see Marva Gendek s open house at her sweet shop this week if you still need some Easter sweets!). But for lots of families, Easter Sunday is a time to attend a church service. It may be one of the only time they walk through the doors of a church all year. If you have friends who are looking to go to church next Sunday, why not make sure they come here? Invite them to be your guest. And next Sunday, let s remember that we ll have several extra guests. While they may not come looking for a church home, they might find one anyway! Opportunities are coming - let s be ready! -David Salisbury We are the Champions: Now godliness with contentment is great gain. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 1 Timothy 6:6,8 It happens every year and in every sport, but the year I remember seeing it was Just after the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, I saw pictures of hundreds of kids in Nicaragua with brand new shirts and caps thanks to the National Football League and a relief organization called World Vision. The clothes were donated by the NFL and commemorated the 2008 Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots. Did you ever wonder how championship teams get those caps and shirts while they are still celebrating on the field, just moments after the game is over? The answer is that clothing companies make clothes that celebrate both teams as the winner so that the athletes can wear them on TV right after the game. But that means they are left with a bunch of perfectly good but virtually worthless T-shirts and ball caps. So they donate them. Here s the point the kids in Nicaragua ought to care that their shirts and caps celebrate the wrong team, but they don t. I wish we lived in a world where everyone could afford to be picky about their clothes, but we don t. Hundreds of thousands of parents don t care what neighborhood they live in they just want a place to live. They would love for their children to go to a school, any school. They desperately wish they could put three meals a day on their table but even one good one may be a luxury. When was the last time you opened your fridge or closet and just gave thanks that it was full? Godliness with contentment is great gain. The two go together. Godliness demands that we be content and give thanks for what we have. Shouldn t we be a bit embarrassed at the excitement with which the rest of the world accepts what America throws away? What if instead of cast-offs and hand me downs, the church committed to truly sacrificial giving to truly meet needs? Which do you think pleases God more a church full of well dressed, well groomed people driving new cars and living in big houses or a church full of people who have sacrificed to help others in need? 2 Corinthians 5:9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.

Easter Egg Hunt - April 15 The Busbey s - April 15 Spring Retreat Meeting - April 23 Spring Retreat - April Matthew 7:21 reads, Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. In other words, there will be people who think they are going to Heaven that will not make it in, because they will not have been truly obedient to God and to His word. As people in this world we allow a lot of things to blind us to how God wants us to live, including our own wants and desires, the many false teachers/prophets of this world (that were mentioned in Matthew 7:15), and sometimes even our own self-induced ignorance. It is now time for us to break down these many roadblocks to our faith and pick up the Scriptures. Only through God s word can we truly find out how to do the will of our Father in heaven. If we do this and start living the life that God wants us to live then we will never have to hear Jesus say to us, I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness (Matthew 7:23b). How will we live our lives, or better yet, how will YOU live your life? Will it be a life built around God or a life built around anything or everything else in this world (including self)? I hope that you choose to follow God s way. The author of the book of James did. In James 5, Job is as used an example of steadfastness. He was a man who (literally) had everything taken away from him and suffered beyond what most of us can comprehend, yet he continually remained faithful to God. This is how we should be in our lives. There are going to be a lot of challenges and maybe even a bit of suffering, but as Christians we can and must endure through these with patience. We must patiently await our reward and faithfully live for God.

Jesus tells us that our words are a reflection of our heart (Luke 6:45). When we come to God in faith, we confess that we believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Paul reminds us in Romans 10:10 that our words must come from a heart that has believed in God and is committed to righteousness. A confession of faith is a declaration of a change that has happened in my heart and my desire to live a new life in Christ.

Theresa Smith, Samantha Thompson s mother, will have cancer surgery on April 21 in Louisville. Nataline Jenkins continues to recover at home. John Turpin had a stroke and is recovering at his daughter s home. Kay Cook, Everett & Odie May s daughter has been to Vanderbilt for tests.

Apr.30-5th Sunday - Please remember that the entire contribution on a 5th Sunday goes toward our building fund. May 7 - Senior Night - Following evening services we will have a potluck meal and honor our graduating seniors. Youth Release Forms Parents, please fill out a new form for each child in the youth group and return them to Nathan. We need updated forms from everyone. EASTER EGG HUNT We will have an easter Egg Hunt at the Mcindoo Cabin on Saturday, April 15 at 10:00 a.m. for the children of the congregation.
