2 Was it A Morning Like This? Each year at Easter we remember the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us. We celebrate the hope and life we have as a result of His death and resurrection. What does it look like to rise from the dead? We've all seen the TV dramas in the operating room when the heart monitor suddenly goes flat with the ominous tone. Then the shock paddles are brought in and the formerly and technically dead person is brought back to life. Maybe it's like that jolts of electricity running through the body. Or maybe it's the way most of us feel on a particularly early morning when the alarm clock goes off. We jump out of sleep, but as we switch the near blinding light on, it takes a few moments to rub the sleep out of our eyes. We have a sense of weakness in our hands and fingers as the blood starts to get going again, until we can eventually stagger to the bathroom to turn on the shower. Something tells me that Jesus didn't stumble out of the tomb. Something tells me He didn't cough and gurgle, or need the blood flow to return to His extremities on Easter Sunday morning. Sure, His death was messy. Undignified. Bloody. Gruesome. Embarrassing even. But His resurrection? That was different. It reminds me of a song called: Was it a Morning Like This? Sandy Patty has it on one of her albums, I m not sure who wrote it. Here is one verse and chorus that tell the story: Was it a morning like this? When Mary walked down from Jerusalem And two angels stood at the tomb Bearers of news she would hear soon Did the grass sing? Did the earth rejoice to feel You again? Over and over like a trumpet underground Did the earth seem to pound, "He is risen!" Over and over in a never-ending round "He is risen, hallelujah, hallelujah!" Jesus resurrection woke up the whole world that day and it does the same for us when we realize the gift of forgiveness and life we have received. On Easter morning, will you sing, worship, praise and thank God for this incredible gift? How can we not sing? Join us for worship Easter Sunday morning at 6:30, 8:00 or 10:00 am. 4 Dear Saints of the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin, By the time you read this, one major event in our synod will have been completed and the next one will be just around the corner. The completed one will be Walking Together when 400+ folks will have gathered to learn, to laugh and to walk together toward a new future. The around the corner" event will be our annual Synod Assembly in April. But, both events will be tied together by the theme: BOLDLY Invite ONE More! With the symbol of a big RED door, emblazoned with Luther s seal, we will be challenged to get the word out about Jesus! But, here s the Easter connection. When we were picking a theme verse for the events the verse we chose was from Mark 16:15. In this verse, Jesus says "Go into all the world.." And, seemingly, the women and even some men did just that! As we were picking this verse, we also were laughing, because it comes from what is called The Longer Ending of Mark. The ending of Mark that is from the oldest manuscripts says this, So they (the women) went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. I often refer to this last verse as the Lutheran Ending of the gospel of Mark. They said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. We are Lutheran, and we need no longer be afraid! We live in a culture where our neighbors are hungry for good news, they are hungry for life, and they are hungry for love. Our churches can give them all of those things. The day is over when we can silently leave the empty tomb at Easter and tell no one. So this is my Easter challenge to every one of you who takes the time to read these words: BOLDY invite ONE more! This year, before Easter, you, and everyone in your family, invite one person to come and worship with you. If you have family who live somewhere else, but who do not have a church, encourage them I sure hope you can find a church for this Sunday! Be BOLD. What s the worst that can happen? Let the amazement overcome the fear. We have the amazing privilege of getting up on that Sunday morning and worshipping the God of Easter! I for one will make sure I share that with not just one person, but I commit to sharing it with everyone that will give me the opportunity. What s the worst that can happen???? BOLDLY, Invite ONE More! Scrip raises money that gives them opportunities to learn and grow in their faith and in their relationships with peers and adults. Funds raised through our Scrip program go towards mission trips, ELCA national and synod youth gatherings, adventure trips, and service opportunities. Thank you for your support! 6 Grateful to be Faithful A FAITH5 Devotion Guide The Story of Easter for Kids! Here s a great opportunity for your family to experience Easter together. A SPARK HOUSE FAMILY ACTIVITY Easter arrives and we celebrate the resurrection of Christ. Babies are born, caterpillars turn to butterflies, spring flowers bloom and we are reminded of new life all around us. Jesus has died, so that we might live. Celebrate this great, grace-filled gift this April with the simple, 5-steps of FAITH5 (Faith Acts In The Home). Share this routine with your family or just keep it between you and God. Begin with highs and lows the best and worst moments of your day, read the new life themed verse of scripture found on the other side of this sheet, pray and end with a blessing, perhaps tracing a cross on the forehead and saying something like God makes all things new, especially you. Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly. Join us for supper and movie night, following J-Team and Little Lutherans on Wednesday, April 19th from 5:15-7:15 ish in the Family Center.
