2 FORWARD IN FAITH 2018 This is truly an exciting time in the life of the Sardinia Church of Christ as we see new people accepting the Lord as their Savior and people moving their membership and the church reaching out to this community and to the world in exciting adventures. It is incredible what the Lord has done and will continue to do through His people here! God has given us the opportunity to be apart of being a change agent for Him and to make a difference in the lives of people for all eternity. We are renewing a stewardship campaign with an adventure ahead that will be a time of prayer, faith, and personal consecration. To this end we will launch our second Forward In Faith campaign. What our church is today is because of the decisions made yesterday; what our church will be tomorrow will be determined by the decisions we make today. Forward in Faith is based on the premise that the primary goal of a Capital Stewardship Campaign is NOT to raise money. The first goal is to help each and every member of the Sardinia Church of Christ grow in their understanding and faithful expression of stewardship. In other words, it all belongs to God; the issue is what we, as his stewards, will do with it! The second thing we understand is that we want Forward in Faith to SUPPORT the direction of the church, not become a distraction or hindrance. During this campaign you will be asked to make a faith promise for the next three years over and above your regular giving. Our first Forward in Faith campaign ends this month. The new pledges would begin on July 15th. The amount raised in Forward in Faith will be used to pay down the debt of the mortgage on the facilities. We are only a few years away from completing this goal which will free us to expand with more ministry opportunities. I want to say thank-you to those of you who have faithfully participated in the last faith promise. We are asking you to join with us again as we work together in continuing on in the work we are doing for the Lord Jesus Christ. This is also a great time for new members to join with us in this cause for Christ. This important goal requires EVERYONE S participation. In the next several weeks you will be asked to attend a pizza luncheon on July 1 following the morning worship service. The luncheon is for the purpose of great fellowship and to answer questions you may have about this campaign. We will also participate in a prayer time for this ministry. Our commitment Sunday will be on July 8. On that Sunday we will bring our commitment cards to the morning worship service where we will bring our commitments to the stage as an expression of our worship and dedication to Christ and His church. I hope you will be an active participant in these activities. Be informed. Share in the process. Ask questions! I rejoice in the common goal we will seek together during this campaign of Forward in Faith. I eagerly anticipate what God has in store for us as we seek to honor Him. Forward in Faith Kevin Hamilton Senior Minister Kevin s Comments
3 Student Ministry News Questions? Please contact Facebook page: I remember the three most frustrating words math teachers would say whenever they give a test or homework: Show your work. Every student hated those words because it usually meant we had to get a whole separate piece of piece of paper to fit every little equation done even as small as 0+0=0. However, we mostly hated it because it meant we had to do more work and, sometimes because we cheated, instead of just being able to say, the answer is. While we hated the teacher saying that, as a student there was a good reason that was instructed and not just to make sure we weren t cheating. The reason teachers uttered those 3 cursed words, the bane of every student, is because when we get it wrong we can go through the process of finding where we went wrong to come to the wrong answer. The teacher got all sorts of hate while trying to help us understand where we went wrong not that it is just the wrong answer. The teacher knows that just telling us the answer is wrong doesn t help us to get to the right answer. Throughout the books of Exodus and Joshua you ll read the words in one form or another, And Israel committed sin before the Lord, which resulted in some harsh punishments of the Israelites. The punishments were lifted, but not until the specific sin was addressed. It wasn t just a, Sorry God, we messed up somehow and we ll try not to mess up again, whatever it was. Rather it wasn t until they addressed the exact problem that things were fixed. Sometimes the offender was brought forward and admitted exactly how and what they did, not a Oops! My bad, guys! I had no idea! There were several people Jesus approached and addressed their sin. Not just that sin existed but that a particular sin existed with someone. With the woman at the well it was her five husbands. With Judas it was betrayal to the Pharisees. With Peter it was denial of Him three times. The Apostles called out the Pharisees for exactly what they did: they crucified Christ. With Paul s instructions and letters he called out individuals in a church stating exactly where they went wrong and how to correct their attitude and actions. We don t like to talk about sin in specific instances. At least, not when it comes to our sin. We admit that we are sinners, but if asked for details we like to be as vague as possible even with God who already knows what exactly we did and why. God, Jesus, and the Apostles addressed others sin with precision for the same reason a math teacher has you write out the problem; to show you where you went wrong and how you can correct it. Just telling you something is a sin doesn t mean you ll get it right next time. It just means you won t understand why it is a sin. We are called to confess sin to God and to each other SPECIFICALLY, so that we may encourage each other along the journey to do what is right. Joe
4 Alpha Class News The Alpha Class had a busy month of May. We would like to thank all those responsible for the delicious Mother s Day breakfast and the Board for the lovely tote bag given to all the mothers. On Tuesday, May 15 th, 15 members of the class went to the Georgetown Church of Christ for the annual Ohio Senior Citizens Day Celebration. The theme for this year s celebration was Engage at Every Age. The Brown County Senior Citizens Council puts this on each year for the senior citizens of Brown County. They do a wonderful job to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable day with a wonderful meal, great entertainment and lots of prizes. We all enjoyed the day of fellowship. On Monday, May 21 st, we had our regular meeting at the church. Fifteen members and two guests were present. We enjoyed having Patsy Albert and Annie Staggs join us. Our hostesses and host, Carol Davis and Debbie and Barry Singleton furnished meat trays and drinks, with everyone else providing sides. Barry had the blessing for the meal. After the meal and a time of fellowship we enjoyed the movie, based on a true story, Letters to God. The story of what happens when one boy s walk of faith crosses paths with one man s search for meaning the resulting transformational journey touches the lives of everyone around them. Tyler Doherty is an extraordinary eight-year-old boy. Surrounded by a loving family and community, and armed with the courage of his faith, he faces his daily battle against cancer with bravery and grace. To Tyler, God is a friend, a teacher and the ultimate pen pal. Tyler s prayers take the form of letters, which he composes and mails on a daily basis. The letters find their way into the hands of Brady McDaniels, a beleaguered postman standing at a crossroads in his life. At first, he is confused and conflicted over what to do with the letters. But the decision he ultimately makes becomes a testament to the quiet power of one boy s shining spirit and unshakable faith. Thanks to Barry and Debby for sharing the movie with us. After a time of discussion about the movie, we ended our meeting with Bob Hopkins leading us in circle prayer. As always, we invite anyone who is looking for a Sunday School class to join us at 9:00 on Sunday morning. We meet in the classroom across from the sanctuary on the offices side of the building. submitted by Diana Newman
5 Friendly Circle News The Friendly Circle ladies met at the church at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 9. Six ladies were present. Ruth Reedy shared a devotion written by the Country Parson which talks about a lie and how that lie will eventually be uncovered. Ruth closed her devotion with prayer and asked a blessing on the delicious refreshments provided by Hazel Downing. After a period of eating and fellowship, the business meeting was opened with the pledges to the American flag, the Christian flag and the Bible followed by routine business. Twelve people loaded into the van Tuesday, April 17th, and headed to Hillsboro. Our first stop was for was lunch at Ponderosa where we were joined by Jan Crawford. After lunch, we again loaded up and headed toward the Cinema where to see the wonderful movie I Can Only Imagine. We really enjoyed the time spent together but, as with everything, all good things must come to an end so we loaded up again and headed home. Many thanks to all who joined us and to Barry Singleton for being our chauffeur. We also would like to say thanks to Janie Wills for driving us to the Area Christian Women s Fellowship, April 19th. Nine ladies enjoyed a delicious meal and were entertained by the talented humor of Harriet Jackson Groh! You surely missed a blessing if you didn t go. We will be purchasing juice for Butler Springs and peanut butter for Lifeline. The Women s Retreat is coming up May Bea Fryman is thinking about taking her mother up for one day. Evelyn is the only person that has gone to every Women s Retreat held at Butler Springs. We will be serving breakfast to our fathers and their families on Father s Day. Diana Newman and Ann Yochum have volunteered to decorate the tables. We will purchase small gifts for each of our fathers who are present during the Morning Worship Service. Our church will be hosting the April 2019 Area Christian Women s Fellowship. We are planning to use the theme Purse-onalities, decorating with purses. We also are thinking about doing a skit called Purses Are Us in which several different types of purses will be needed. We will be asking for help with this event. Patsy Albert has volunteered to serve as secretary until the next election of officers. We need to purchase some cards to send to the sick and shut-ins. New cards will be made up to be put in the Welcome bags. Our June 13 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at Maddy s Pizzeria. After our fellowship around the dinner table, we will move back to the church (at approximately 7 p.m.) for our business meeting. Debbie Singleton will lead our devotional time and Bea Fryman will have the special. Please plan to join us. Bea Fryman had the special for the evening. She shared two poems, one about Mother s Day and the other about Memorial Day. The meeting was closed by all joining hands for the Circle Prayer. Bea Fryman
