The people and pastors of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church are committed to meeting you wherever you are on your journey in faith. If you are visiting and would like to know more about our church and our faith, please fill out the Connection Card in the back of the chair in front of you and place it in the offering plate. COMMUNION PROCEDURES Everyone who believes that Jesus Christ is truly present in the sacrament and sincerely wishes to commune with Him is welcome to participate. Children may come forward for a blessing. When you receive the wafer, you may dip it into the wine (red) or grape juice (white). Gluten Free wafer available upon request. If you would like to participate in the sacraments but are unable to come forward, please inform an usher and communion will be brought to you. EVERYONE IS INVITED FOR REFRESHMENTS out on the patio. Please take a moment to share greetings and joy with one another. Make some new friends by introducing yourself to others. BIBLE ACTIVITY BAGS AVAILABLE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN during the worship service. Please ask the ushers for a bag. At the end of the service, return it to the usher so a child at another service can use the Bible Bag. OUR FAMILY ROOM is available for families with young children. It is equipped with sound and video from the sanctuary. The kids are nearly grown. Financially, you have things under control. But, now big financial decisions involving living securely in retirement, managing retirement accounts, and setting up estate plans are looming. Would you like to participate in a quick financial check up to make sure you are on the right track? Then this two-part course from Economics Professor Mark Schug who worships at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church might be of interest to you. Professor Schug has a passion to help people get their financial house in order and this is his ministry. HSLC is thrilled to host this two-part course on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 1 and 2, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 7:15 PM both nights. The cost will be $10 per person to cover cost of handouts and refreshments. Please RSVP at SUBMIT YOUR PRAYER requests for this week by using a Connection Card found in the chair back. Pastor will include your request in today s service. All prayer requests will be prayed for by our Prayer Ministry during the week and included in next week s worship bulletin. ASSISTED HEARING DEVICES are available at the sound booth for use at the beginning of each service. These devices will help amplify the sounds of the service to a comfortable level for the hearing impaired. It will allow you to move out of the sanctuary and not miss one word. 2 Stations of the Cross Auction Thank you very much to everyone who bid on a piece of art from the Stations of the Cross. We were able to raise $1,050 for the Village of Hope Infant/Mother Nutrition Program. God is good and so is our congregation. Haiti Mission Trip Opportunity Pastor Andy Hagen, Advent Lutheran Church, Boca Raton will lead a mission trip to Haiti to teach Vacation Bible School at the Village of Hope and neighboring communities from May 19, 2018 to May 25, He has invited members and friends of HSLC to join his team. Teachers, assistant teachers, crafty people, and anyone who enjoys working with elementary school children are needed to take part in this wonderful experience. A valid passport and some immunizations are required. The cost, including airfare, and room, board, and insurance, will be approximately $800. Many times, like Jonah, we run! In Jonah: Navigating A Life Interrupted, Priscilla Shirer redefines interruption and shows that interruption is actually God's invitation to do something beyond our wildest dreams. When Jonah was willing to allow God to interrupt his life, the result was revival in an entire city. Redefine interruption and see that interruption is actually God's invitation to do something beyond our wildest dreams. Join us Mondays at 10:30 AM in the Church Office Soulfire Youth Ministry Our youth have been participating in the 30 Hour Famine this weekend and have created blessing bags for the homeless in the community. Please grab a blessing bag from the patio on the way home today! Lets try our movie day again next weekend! Movie/time will be posted on the Soulfire Facebook page as the day gets closer! If you haven t signed up for camp yet, you still have time! Completed 3rd through 12th grade youth can attend an amazing week on a mountain! Register with our group online without down payment. Shawn for help signing up. Daytime Meal Life Group If you want to be part of a Small Group, there is a wonderful opportunity to meet for a meal. Join a small group that goes to a restaurant for a meal the first Friday of every month. The next lunch will be May 4 at 12:00 at Le Metro, 1155 Main St., in Abacoa. Sandwich Making If you would like to help prepare the sandwiches for St. George s, please join us in the HSLC Sanctuary on Saturday, May 5 at 8:30 AM. Altar Flowers & Eternal Light The 2018 sign up is available for the Altar Flowers and Eternal Light. Your donation of $35 towards each bouquet or $10 towards the eternal light is a wonderful way to honor someone special or give glory to God. The flowers are delivered to those who are unwell and unable to attend church. Call Committee Update The Call Committee is eagerly awaiting feedback from the bishop s office about our Ministry Site Profile (MSP). Once we have the feedback and edit the MSP, we will be able to place the document on the ELCA website for viewing by potential Lead Pastor candidates. In the meantime, we continue to review and refine the interview process and questions. We are thankful for the congregation s prayers as we move forward with this process, and we are confident the steps we are taking will help us discern God s will for Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. Help Feed The Homeless And The Hungry You can help the Healthy Food, Healthy Living Food Pantry by donating your aluminum cans. Please rinse the cans, place in a bag at home and bring them to church on Sundays to place them in the barrel marked on the patio. During the week, place them in the barrel in the patio storage room. No steel cans please. Diaper Drive for Homeless Mothers Children s Home Society cares for young homeless mothers and their infants. CHS provides a 2 year program that teaches these young moms how to care responsibly for their baby, educates them and finds them work. HSLC can be supportive by providing diapers. Please bring them to church. Evelyn Lyerly is the leader of the diaper drive. Care Ministry Items needed for the Homeless at St. Ann: shoes, belts, hats, cloth shopping bags, men s jeans/pants (sizes 28-36) and ladies pants. Winter hats and gloves are needed. Small size toiletries, band aids, sunscreen, bug spray and vitamins are needed. Please place in the patio storage room. The Food Pantry has a cargo van that is used to pick up food.
