3 St. Mark Pilgrimage St. Mark Pilgrimage to the Marian Shrines of Fatima in Portugal and Lourdes in France, March 4-13, 2018 Spiritual Director for this pilgrimage, Father Todd Riebe, invites parishioners who are interested in knowing more about this pilgrimage and have not yet signed up to call Rita East, Registrations are being accepted for the second bus. Reservations made after the deposit due date of August 29, 2017 are based on availability. Please let Rita know as soon as possible to hold your spot. Pre-departure meetings will be held later in the year to help prepare pilgrims for the spiritual and logistical details of the pilgrimage. Faith Formation Spiritual Life The Spiritual Life Committee invites you to a presentation on Judaism Today, Sunday, July 23 at 7:00pm in Msgr. Schafer Hall. The guest speaker, Dina David, will share with us her first-hand experience of growing up in Israel. She will take us through the language and educate us in Judaism. Dina David Holocaust Education Program Director, Bureau of Jewish Education Currently an adjunct faculty member at IUPUI s Department of Communication Studies, Dina David grew up in Israel, where she took a bachelor s degree in English from Tel Aviv University. She moved to Indianapolis more than two decades ago to teach Hebrew for the Bureau of Jewish Education. In 1989 she received her M.S. in Telecommunication Arts from Butler University. Dina teaches about and is personally committed to peaceful intercultural communication and is especially concerned with the historical lessons of the Holocaust (the Shoah) for the contemporary world. Faith Wisdom Service SUNDAY MORNING RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (SMRE): Registration for SMRE classes begins this Sunday, July 23rd after the 7:30, 9:30 and 11:45am Masses. Registration forms and additional information will also be available in the Narthex Information Centers and Parish Center. Classes are scheduled to begin on Sunday, August 20th. FIRST SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION: Registration for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion begins Sunday, July 23rd after 7:30, 9:30 and 11:45am Masses. Registration forms will also be available in the Narthex Information Centers and Parish Center. The program fee is $35 per child or $55 for two or more children. Please bring a copy of your child s baptismal certificate if they were NOT baptized at St. Mark. Classes will begin on Monday, August 21st. 4 Thank you Matt Merkel Parish Matt Merkel, will be leaving St. Mark as our Business Manager. We thank Matt for his faithful service to our parish community and wish him the very best in his future ventures. Sister Circle MEETING/HELP FOR BIRTHLINE: St. Mark s ladies ministry will be having a meeting on Monday, July 31st at 7:00pm in the Cenacle. We will be discussing the Parish Picnic (August 20) as well as various other upcoming events. Deacon Paul will lead us in prayer and tell us a little bit about himself. Light refreshments will be served. Please consider bringing an item for Birthline. The need for onesis (0-3 months or 3-6 months). Sleepers 2T or smaller, as well as outfits 2T or smaller. If you are unable to attend the meeting and would like to donate to Birthline, put your donation in the bassinet in the Narthex or drop of in the Parish Center. Hope to see you July 31st. Your Sister Circle Planning Team ~A SPECIAL INVITATION FOR ALL LADIES~ Sister Circle, St. Mark's ladies ministry, will be hosting "A Day Away" for the women of our parish (18 and older) on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Beech Grove Benedict Inn. The day will include breakfast and lunch, speakers, an art activity, quiet reflection time, a labyrinth walk, and Mass. More details coming soon! ST. MARK CARD PARTY: The St. Mark Monthly Card Party will be held in the Narthex on Thursday, July 27th starting at 1:00pm. We play progressive euchre and the cost is $1.00 to play, which includes refreshments. You are always encouraged to bring a friend. See you there! 4TH WEDNESDAY COMMUNITY DINNERS: Please join us at Anna s House, 303 N. Elder Ave., on the 4th Wednesday of the month. The women s CRHP Team 19 meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 5:00pm to set-up dinner starting at 5:30pm. Our guests number between and for many, this is their only home cooked meal of the week. Everyone of St. Mark s parish is invited to help by cooking and/ or serving. This is a good way to meet other parishioners and great way for students to get service hours. If interested, please contact Laura Linder, or Joanie Grooms, A SPECIAL GIFT: St. Mark parishioner, Adrian Daeger, will offer the parish a very special gift next Sunday, July 30th. Adrian, who has served as a cantor and been a member of several parish choirs, will share her gift of music with a recital in St. Mark Church at 3:00pm. Adrian will sing several of her favorite songs for us. A 2017 graduate of Perry Meridian High School, Adrian will continue to develop her musical gifts in college this fall. Please bring a canned good or nonperishable to the recital. Adrian would like to be able to give back to her St. Mark family and help the food pantry or St. Vincent de Paul. HELP IS NEEDED: If you would like to help with this ministry, we are in the need of cleaners for the church. It is light cleaning, once a week for two months out of the year. Great opportunity for CRHP teams and Small Church Communities. Hearing loss related to noise often first affects the ability to hear high-frequency sounds. It s up to us to protect hearing at home and play.

5 St. Vincent de Paul St. Mark Golf Outing Next Saturday, July 29th, is our periodic work morning at the SVdP Distribution Center. We will meet in the parking lot of St. Mark at 8:00am and carpool to the Center. Adults and youth, 12 or older, accompanied by an adult, are eagerly sought. MARK SPIRIT WEAR ONLINE SALE St. Mark Catholic School Spirit Wear Sale is available now. and will conclude on Monday, August 7th. All purchased Spirit Wear items can be picked up at school on Thursday, August 31st by Noon or in the parish office after August 31st. ST. MARK CATHOLIC SCHOOL FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL The first day of school for the school year will be on Wednesday, August 2nd. The main doors (Door #1) will open at 7:35am and school will begin with scripture reading, reflection, prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:55am! We are excited to welcome over 75 new students, and 6 new staff members to St. Mark Catholic School! ****IMPORTANT INFORMATION**** As part of our ongoing commitment to the care and protection of children, every priest, deacon, employee and volunteer of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis is required to complete the online Safe and Sacred training program before working or volunteering at St. Mark. *Please note, you will not be able to work or volunteer until the training has been completed. Training Certificates will have a 3 year expiration date. Many of our volunteers certifications have already expired. Please log-in, and review the TRAINING SUMMARY for details of current courses to take. The background check application must be completed during this process. Upon completion, please wait for an with your certificate before logging back into the system to check your status. The course is available in English and Spanish 24 hours per day, 7 days per week at It takes about 45 minutes to complete and can be done in parts over a series of days.
