SACRAMENTS Anointing of the Sick: Those wishing to receive the Anointing of the Sick are asked to speak with any of the priests or call the office at Masses for Anointing of the Sick are celebrated throughout the year, and are announced in the bulletin. Baptisms: Infants through 2nd Grade: Parents are asked to attend our Baptism Preparation class on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Sponsors are also invited to attend. You must be registered parishioners for at least two months prior to the baptism. Please call the office at or secretary@olsparish.com for more information and to sign up. Third graders and older: Parents are asked to call our Director of Children s Sacraments, Lauri-Anne, for information at Communion to the Homebound: If you are ill at home and wish to receive the Eucharist, call the office at First Holy Communion and Confirmation: The Diocese of Reno requires a two year preparation for children and teens receiving these Sacraments. Please contact Lauri Anne Reinhart at Marriage: Couples wishing to be married at Snows need to make their initial contact with the parish six months before their wedding date. We listen to the story of the renewal of the old covenant, which Moses sealed by splashing the blood of animals on the altar of sacrifice, as well as on the people. Jesus, whose blood is the blood of the new covenant, shed that precious blood on the cross, saving us from sin and promising us everlasting life. Blood is the life source that courses through our bodies. The precious blood of Christ is the life source for our spirits. MINISTRY NEWS NEEDY MINISTRY The Food Pantry will be closed from now to July 31, opening again on August 1. There will be NO FOOD OR CLOTHING DISTRIBUTION OR COLLECTIONS during that time. Please do NOT bring donations to the church or to Sr. Carmen s office. We will resume accepting food and clothing donations August 1. MUSIC MINISTRY Joseph asks: What is your reason for not joining the choir? "I don't know how to sing." Are you sure? Let s get together and. find out. "I've never sung in a choir before." Many in our choirs are first-timers. "I don't know how to read music." Many of our singers don't read music. "I can't be there every week." That's OK. Come when you can. CALL FOR NEW EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS Preparation for New Eucharistic Ministers will be held in the church Tuesday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m. and again Saturday, June 9, at 10 a.m. To be a Eucharistic Minister you must be at least 16 years old, baptized, and have received First Communion; if married you must be married in the church. If you have ever felt the desire to serve as a Eucharistic Minister at mass or to be a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound, please consider it prayerfully now. Then call the parish office to let us know if you plan on attending. SNOWS WOMEN S AUXILIARY All women of the parish are invited to join the Snows Women s Auxiliary! We meet on the first Tuesday of each month in the parish center. We begin at 6:00 p.m. with a social half hour. Members bring something sweet or savory to share. Coffee, tea, and cider are served. DEPRESSION AND BIPOLAR SUPPORT ALLIANCE (DBSA) Individuals with a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of depression or bipolar disorder are invited to attend our next DBSA meeting on Tuesday, June 5, at 7:00 p.m. in the parish center. To receive Holy Communion with the special low gluten host, you must receive from the main priest celebrant at that Mass. If more than one priest is at the altar, the priest who is the main celebrant will be the one holding the special vessel containing the gluten-free hosts. Simply inform him as you approach him. Under the direction of the Parish Business Administrator, this position is responsible for providing a professional point of contact for clergy, parishioners and the public, as well as assuming responsibility for office administrative tasks. This position is full time (35-40 hours per week) with benefits. Skills & Knowledge required: College or high school graduate with at least 5 years business office experience, preferably in a parish office. Good written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish. Organized with strong attention to detail. 6 CATHOLIC BIBLICAL SCHOOL AROUND THE DIOCESE Our diocese is privileged to have been chosen by the University of Dallas to serve as one of their Catholic Biblical School sites in the coming year. DEEPEN YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE! Registration forms are due by August 15, 2018 because we need to plan for the August 25 session (see below) CBS will be offered on Wednesday nights, beginning in September, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at three different sites: Our Lady of the Snows Parish Center, Reno St Patrick s, Fallon St Joseph s Elko Annual Cost: $550 per person + books There will be one Saturday session in Reno, August 25, 9:30-12:30. Our teacher, Gene Giuliano from the University of Dallas, will come to Reno to introduce the program to participants and talk about the Bible from the Catholic perspective. (This session will be taped for registrants who cannot make it that day.) This is a four-year program, and participants may attend any or all of the four years. The first two years of the CBS program focus on the biblical books that form the foundation of both the Old and New Testaments. Years Three and Four of the program cover the remaining books of the bible, emphasizing their contexts and principle themes. While starting at the beginning of the four-year cycle is encouraged, a student can join the program at any point. Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ St Jerome, quoted in Dei Verbum, Vatican II ANNUAL JUBILEE MASS Bishop Randolph Calvo will be celebrating marriage at the annual Jubilee Mass. All couples attending will be able to renew their marriage vows and will receive a certificate. The Mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral on June 17, at 2:00 p.m. Please give your names and number of years married (as of 2018) to the parish office as soon as possible. WORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER Married Couples: Summer is a time to relax and make memories. A Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend will give you that chance. It is the greatest gift you can give each other. The weekend will give you the time to make new memories of a special time where your lives were changed forever.
