1 - 2 - Parish Council The Parish Council held two meetings during the month of March; its regular meeting and a joint meeting with the executive bodies of the church organizations, which took place on March 28. The purpose of the joint meeting was to review our plans for the current year and look to the future for planning suggestions and opportunities. April will be a busy month in our parish with all the activities and services leading up to Easter Sunday, April 16. It begins on April 9 with the traditional Palm Sunday Brunch organized by our Ladies Society. It s a great event and try not to miss it. By now you should have received the schedule of events for Holy Week. We look forward to greeting you during all our services. St. Paul will participate with the other valley Armenian churches in remembrance of the Armenian Genocide. This year s event will take place on Monday, April 24, at the Genocide Monument located on the campus of Fresno State. Details of the event will be found in this issue of the Dajar. On Sunday, April 23, after church, a short program will be offered by our Saturday and Sunday Schools and ACYO members on the genocide. Please plan on coming to church and supporting our youth by attending the special program they have planned. Plans are also underway for our participation in the Annual Diocesan Assembly to be held on May 6 at the Diocesan headquarters. We are still reviewing bids for our solar energy project and working on the financing package. Until that process is completed the roof project is on hold because of the coordination required between the installation of the roof overlay and the installation of the solar panels. By the time you receive this issue of the Dajar, we may have a new parishioner. Hovell Bedros is due to be born very soon and we wish Der Hayr and Yeretzgin God s blessings for a safe delivery. St. Paul Armenian Church s 2017 Food Festival Sponsorship opportunities This year, in addition to our place-mat sponsors and our generous other donors, we are looking for event sponsors to help with our fundraiser. We have four levels of sponsorship available: Event Co-Sponsor $5,000 Kebab Sponsor $500 Pilaf Sponsor $100 Cheese Borag Sponsor $25 If you are interested in helping with a sponsorship this year, please call the church office at (M-F: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and give your information. 2 Although it was a relatively small turnout for our March 15 th dinner meeting held at the Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant, it turned out to be a very enjoyable and productive get-together for the dozen members in attendance. After enjoying a great pasta dinner, those present engaged in discussing several topics, including the following: 1) Sponsoring St. Paul s Youth Basketball Team, as requested by member Phil Kakligian, who is also coordinating this worthwhile effort. All of those present were in full support of sponsorship Men s Forum 2) Updating our Men s Forum Directory that was last printed in Once current data is compiled and formatted, our printer and fellow member, Jack Ouzounian, will be able to proceed with publishing. 3) Mike Kilijian s wonderful suggestion to schedule a group visit to the Veteran s Home of Fresno, located at W. California and S. Marks Aves. Our longtime member, John Adishian, is a current resident of this wonderful residential development. On Wednesday evening, April 19th, we are scheduled to, once again, join with the Ladies Society for a special Lamb Shank Dinner. The entrée will be prepared by Bob Der Matoian and his committee in traditional Abby Mamigonian style. More details will be forthcoming in the announcement flyers. In closing, we extend our most sincere get well thoughts and wishes to our longtime member and active participant, Franklin Antoyan. We hope and pray that he will be able to return to our functions and Sunday services soon. We wish all our parishioners and their families a very joyous Easter. 3 - 4 - St. Paul Armenian Church Sunday School Enrichment Program Picture of Students learning about the Bible Sunday of the Steward Sunday School On Sunday, March 12, Sunday School was cancelled. Sunday School superintendent Anton Kismetian and his family spent that weekend in Burbank, CA., at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral. Thanks to everyone who supported the Reclaim and Lenten activities at the Diocese. Archbishop Hovnan Derderian blessed all the children and youth and delivered a special message. It was a great experience for all. On Sunday, April 2 nd, the Lenten Enrichment program will take place. The Lenten Enrichment Program will occur on the first Sunday and consists of three main activities of Cooking, Arts & Crafts and Bible Study to help students enrich their spiritual lives. The last Lenten Service will be held on Wednesday, April 5 th, at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend and participate in the service. Sunday, April 9 th through Sunday, April 16 th HOLY WEEK events: Sunday, April 9 th - Palm Sunday Assembly and Church Attendance Tuesday, April 11 th - Evening Service, all girls invited to participate Thursday, April 13 th - Evening Service, all boys invited to participate Sunday, April 16 th - Easter Sunday Lastly, Sunday School students will take part in a special program during fellowship on Sunday, April 23 rd, for the 102 nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. 4 -5- Senior ACYO Junior ACYO th The Senior ACYO spent Sunday, March 5, celebrating International Women s Day by honoring the female parishioners at church with white and pink carnations and special cards. The weekend of March 10, 11, and 12 was spent at the St. Leon Armenian Cathedral in Burbank, CA. at the Christian Conference and Youth Rally. All members and parishioners that were present, enjoyed listening to different speakers, meeting new people, taking a tour of the Cathedral and attending badarak. Special thanks to Father Yessai Bedros for encouraging us to be part of this wonderful event. On Thursday, April 6th, the Seniors will have their next general meeting and will work on making Easter baskets. They will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the church minor hall and discuss future events, fundraisers, and projects. All Easter baskets will be sold to parishioners during the Champagne Brunch on Palm Sunday, April 9th and Easter Sunday, April 16th. To commemorate the 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the Senior ACYO will join the Junior ACYO members as well as Saturday and Sunday school students and will present a short program for all parishioners during fellowship on Sunday, April 23rd. Please join the youth in remembering and commemorating the events of April 24, Let us never forget. The Junior ACYO continues to have its See's Candies fundraiser. Thank you to those of you who have purchased chocolates and, for those who haven t purchased any yet, you may do so after church in the Haig Berberian Hall at our candy booth during fellowship. There is a variety of candy to choose from and all assorted chocolates are wrapped in a very pretty spring wrap. Chocolates are a great gift idea for family and friends. The next Junior ACYO meeting will take place on Sunday, March 26th, after church services. After the meeting, the members will go bowling as a group at Fresno State s bowling alley. On April 23rd, the Junior ACYO members will be taking part in a program during fellowship for the 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
