Dear colleagues, The ministry and presence of Readers/LLMs is a really valuable and valued part of the life of this diocese. The programme covers the 2018 Autumn Term in full, along with as much information as possible for the first half of Do please take the time to look through it and discern those events with which it might be good for you to engage. 5 Resourcing Grandparents Continuing the Conversation With Ruth Walker and Emma Pettifer Thursday 4 th October 2018, 9.30am 12.15pm Children & Youth An opportunity for those who have been to the introductory events to come and dig deeper into the opportunities and challenges of being a Christian Grandparent. This further morning has been requested by some of those who started this journey with us last year, but is open to others too. One area we will be particularly looking at is sharing your faith with grandchildren who have additional needs. For more information and to book your place, please contact Liz Toone, , cydproject@cofe-worcester.org.uk Working with GDPR Ministry by good administration with Doug Chaplin and Alison Vincent Monday 8 th October 2018, 7.30pm 9.30pm Everyone who is involved in, or wants to do more in this area of administration. If you missed the introductory workshops earlier in the year, if you want to know more now that you re trying to put it into practice, this workshop will offer the opportunity to go over the basic principles, reflect on the ways we ve been doing it, and learn from each other s questions and good ideas. If you want more information, helpful ideas, or reassurance that you re getting it right, this is a workshop for you. To book your place please visit: 5

Administration for Occasional Offices Ministry by good administration with Chris Moss and Wendy Thompson Monday 22 nd October 2018, 7.30pm 9.30pm Everyone who is involved in, or wants to do more in this area of administration. Baptisms, weddings and funerals (together with thanksgivings and memorial services) continue to be essential aspects of ministry, but they can come with quite a bit of paperwork. An experienced parish priest and the parish administrator who works with him across a multi-parish benefice will lead a workshop sharing their practice, and reflecting with those present on what makes for good pastoral practice. This is for you if you help (or want to help) with the pastoral and administrative support for one or more of these pastoral services. To book your place please visit: Record Keeping, Minute Taking, Agenda Writing Ministry by good administration with Robert Higham Monday 5 th November 2018, 7.30pm 9.30pm Everyone who is involved in, or wants to do more in this area of administration. Many of us have been to meetings where things seem to be going round in circles, noone can remember quite what was agreed at the previous meeting, and then when the bank needs a minute of officers no-one can find who the authorised signatories were. There are some important skills to writing a good agenda, and keeping helpful minutes, and there s much shared wisdom (and some law involved) in understanding what records need keeping. This workshop will be useful to those who want to improve the paperwork that supports good meetings, whether as those who chair them, or act as secretary to them. To book your place please visit: 6

The Gospel According to St. John with Professor Andrew Lincoln Tuesday 6 th November 2018 St Andrew s Methodist Church, Pump Street, Worcester, WR1 2QT, 10am 3.30pm Trinity Methodist Church, Churchfields, Kidderminster, DY10 2JL, 7.30pm 9.00pm Bible & Theology This event is arranged in partnership with the Methodist Church, and is open to all in either denomination who regularly preach. Andrew Lincoln, Emeritus Professor of New Testament at the University of Gloucestershire will be our guide in approaching St. John s Gospel, helping us to explore and share this life-giving gospel in our preaching and teaching. Andrew studied at Trinity College Cambridge and Westminster Theological Seminary. He has taught at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, St John s College Nottingham, the University of Sheffield and Wycliffe College Toronto. He has written commentaries on John, Ephesians, Colossians and Hebrews. To book your place for the daytime session To book your place for the evening session Reader Reflection Day Friday 9 th November 2018, 9.30am 4pm Holland House, Main Street, Cropthorne, WR10 3NB Enrichment For all Readers in the Diocese of Worcester. The Warden of Readers, Sue Oliver and the CMD Officer, Hilda Roxborough will jointly lead inputs on the promises you made at your licensing. These will be a key feature of the soon to be implemented triennial Ministerial Review Scheme. LLM s will also have opportunity to reflect on those promises. For more information and to book your place please contact Hilda Roxborough, or roxborough65@gmail.com 7

Faculties and How to Apply for Them Ministry by good administration with Mark Carter Monday 12 th November 2018, pm Particularly useful for Churchwardens and parish buildings or fabric officers. It is also open to everyone who is involved in, or wants to do more in this area of administration. When it comes to paperwork for legal matters, it s as easy to feel anxious about the details as it s important to get the details right. DAC secretary Mark Carter will talk people through the faculty process and demonstrate the new online application system. He will also explain what support is available before putting in the faculty application, and what you can do to make the process as robust as possible beforehand, especially if the application is going to be contentious. Additionally, he will cover more generally good administration of our buildings. This workshop will be particularly useful for churchwardens and parish buildings or fabric officers. To book your place please visit: Communications and Media Relations Ministry by good administration with Sam Setchell Monday 19 th November 2018, 7.30pm 9.30pm Everyone who is involved in, or wants to do more in this area of administration. We don t always think of communication as an aspect of either ministry or administration, but our paperwork, signage, noticeboards, website and the stories we get in the local paper are vital to good parish ministry. Diocesan Communications Officer Sam Setchell will explore how we can improve parish communications, including getting good stories about the church into the local news. To book your place please visit: 8

Book-Keeping and Finance for Non-Accountants Ministry by good administration with Alison Maddocks and Debra Fox Monday 13 th May 2019, 7.30pm 9.30pm Everyone who is involved in, or wants to do more in this area of administration. It s important to all charities to keep a clear record of their finances. As charity trustees, all PCC members have a particular responsibility in law to make sure their finances are in good shape. Parishes and PCCs often rely on volunteers without much financial experience to make sure the parish accounts are well-kept. This workshop, run by the Stewardship Officer and the Assistant Diocesan Accountant (who s also a parish treasurer), will talk people through the basics of doing money well in the parish. To book your place please visit: DTP for Church Newsletters / Service Sheets Ministry by good administration with Doug Chaplin Monday 20 th May 2019, 7.30pm 9.30pm Everyone who is involved in, or wants to do more in this area of administration. Most parishes produce a wide range of printed literature, of which newsletters and service booklets are the most widely used. Mission Development Officer Doug Chaplin will run a workshop on some basic principles for good design and communication, including hints and tips on making the most of the software we have as well as showing some of what s available. To book your place please visit: 13

Parish Policies, APCM Business and Induction of Trustees Ministry by good administration Monday 10 th June 2019, 7.30pm 9.30pm Everyone who is involved in, or wants to do more in this area of administration. There are a number of key pieces of administration that happen just once a year. That usually means we need to plan carefully to ensure they happen. They include the legal requirements for annual meetings and electoral roll renewal, the registration (in the many parishes which are registered charities) of new PCC members with the Charity Commission, and the preparation of annual reports. There are also policies to be reviewed and renewed. Particularly in larger parishes it can help to have a process of induction for new PCC members. This workshop will give you the confidence that you re covering all those essentials well, and have a checklist in place that helps everyone makes sure the right jobs get done at the right time. To book your place please visit: 14

Preparing Good PowerPoints Ministry by good administration with Doug Chaplin Monday 17 th June 2019, 7.30pm 9.30pm Everyone who is involved in, or wants to do more in this area of administration. Being able to use PowerPoint (or other presentation software) is increasingly important in church settings. Whether you are getting ideas over clearly enough in meetings, helping people understand new church plans, supporting preaching with visual aids, or using presentations instead of printed orders of service, PowerPoint is a tool worth learning. Administrators among others sometimes have to prepare presentations for others, as well as themselves. PowerPoint, as many of us have experienced when sitting through presentations, is not always used very well. This workshop will explore the principles as well as practice, of developing attractive slides and clear presentations. To book your place please visit: Ordinations Ordination of Priests - Saturday 22 nd June, 2pm Ordination of Deacons - Sunday 23 rd June, 10.30am Worcester Cathedral, Worcester, WR1 2LA Mission & Ministry All are welcome to attend the ordinations of the Priests and Deacons. Licensed clergy and Readers who would like to robe and process should let us know by in order that we know the numbers involved. Please contact Emma Woollaston, training@cofe-worcester.org.uk,

Christians and Muslims in Contemporary England Wednesday 26 th June 2019, 9.30am 3.30pm Location to be confirmed Enrichment This is a day for those interested in learning more about Islam, including ministry in parishes with high Muslim populations. Morning sessions will focus on gaining an overview of Islam today in the light of its historical development, and then exploring some of the interesting points of similarity and difference between Christianity and Islam. This will include the different ways the two faiths look at some of the people who feature in the Bible. In the afternoon we hope to be joined for more practical reflection by a minister and an imam who work in the same geographical area one where a substantial proportion of the parish is Muslim.
