2 Easter Sunday of The Resurrection of The Lord April 1, 2018 The Collect or Opening Prayer of today s Easter Sunday Mass prays, O God, who on this day through your Only Begotten Son, have conquered death and unlocked for us the path to eternity, grant, we pray, that we who keep the solemnity of the Lord s Resurrection may, through the renewal brought by your Spirit, rise up in the light of life! The psalm today prays, This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad! This is our day to rejoice, dear friends, in the Resurrection that brings us to eternal life! For we are glad indeed that the Lord fulfilled his work and gave himself up to death for us! Indeed, an awesome mystery in which we will have eternal life! Around us in this holy place, are signs that this is indeed a Great Feast. We know of the 40 days of Lent in which our Game On to pray, fast and give alms in a more dedicated and earnest way was up to us to put on. Game On, however, never ends as now we enter into the 50 Days of the Great Feast and with an abundance of joy and love we pray, fast and give more BECAUSE HE LIVES! The First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles today begins with Peter s profession, You know what has happened all over Judea, beginning in Galilee... and we are witnesses of all! All of us are witnesses to the life, death and resurrection of the Lord and are to LIVE IT in word and deed. You see it is, Game On, because we are never not followers of Christ Jesus! The Second Reading reminds us through the words of St. Paul to the Colossians, If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God! And through our faithfulness and hope and love we seek Him whose love surrounds us with joy and mercy! And today s Gospel, is the familiar story of Mary Magdalene seeing the stone removed from the Lord s tomb and her running to get Peter and John and they run and they see and they believe that He has been raised! So live the wonder of the Resurrection by the joy and peace we are to the world in which we live. Game On! Throughout these 50 Days of the Great Feast we will celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation, Baptisms, Confirmations and First Communions, bringing into the fullness of the Roman Catholic Church new members to be ONE with us! While today, we renew the Promises made at Baptism and with our I DO! are sprinkled with the waters of Baptism as a sign and symbol of our new life, singing, Springs of water bless the Lord. Sing your glory and praise forever! The Great Feast will call us to put this life into action by our words and deeds! Again, Game On! We will sing today, Alleluia! Love is alive; conquered the grave and defeated the night, Alleluia! Love is alive! The Son has risen for all. Your people sing alleluia! All the signs are indeed here for us to truly rejoice in the Resurrection of the Lord. As we receive His Body and Blood in Communion today, become HIS in the world and over the 50 Days of the Great Feast BE HIS in the world that so desperately needs HIM. BE the WAY to life for all! If you or a friend or family member are homebound and unable to attend Mass, we would like to bring the Eucharist to you in your home. Family Perspective In the confusion of Easter morning, Peter proved to be a mentor to the younger disciple in today s gospel. Even though the younger disciple arrived first at the empty tomb, he waited for Peter to make sense of this confusing event. Children in our families and neighborhoods also need mentors to help them make sense out of the confusing times and bewildering events that surround their lives. We can help our young people see and believe just like the young disciple in the gospel. Mass Intentions for 2018 The Mass Intention Book for 2018 is open for your Intentions. What a joyful day for us all to celebrate the pinnacle effort of our Christian faith! Carner, Principal On Wednesday, the 22 nd, our Kindergarten students made pretzels. Legend has it that the first pretzel was made by monks as a reminder to people to pray during Lent. Mrs. Dober and Mrs. Schiele would like to thank all of the parents that came in and helped the students with the measuring and mixing of all the ingredients to make these pretzels. We would like to congratulate our Classroom of Champions 8 th grade team. On March 14 th they competed against St. Albert the Great and St. Raphaels at St. Edward High School in the final round of competition. Our team finished in 3 rd place after weeks of preparing. We are proud of all of your efforts! Dear SMS Parents and Parishioners: This year, as we end the season of Lent, we turn our thoughts to Easter and the joy and hope it represents. Without Easter, without the Resurrection, we would face a future of darkness rather than the promise of eternal life. Easter is truly a time of celebration! As we see signs of renewed life all around us in nature, we realize that we can share in that renewal. What a sign of God s love we experience with the Resurrection. Together, as parents, grandparents, teachers, and SMS friends, we face the future with all of its challenges and all of its opportunities with renewed faith and hope as we proclaim our joyful Alleluia.
