2 JULY 16, 2017 "But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear. Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it." Matthew 13 Dear Parishioners and Friends; Hopefully everyone is finding some opportunity to enjoy these beautiful summer days! Because this is the "Year of the Eucharist" we continue in the bulletin below with the sequential publication of a pastoral letter from Bishop Matano concerning the Holy Eucharist. Be sure also to check out our bulletin and website ( for news and upcoming events. Registration is underway for our annual Vacation Bible School to be held August You can register online - All Are Welcome! Adult and teen volunteers are needed to help. We are in need of more Altar Servers! If you are in 3 rd Grade or higher we welcome you to be an important part of our liturgies! Details are in the bulletin regarding the 3 rd annual Rochester Catholic Men s Conference. A wonderful day to focus on your relationship with God and your community, hear keynote speakers and share in the Eucharist. Be sure to register for our Fall St. Rita Faith Formation and Sacramental programs. Parents have a special obligation to ensure that their children attend weekend Mass, participate in Faith Formation classes, and receive the Sacraments needed for their grade level. May God bless you! Fr. Gonyo * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * A continuation of Bishop Matano's Pastoral Letter declaring this year The Holy Year of the Eucharist is included below. It will be run in segments over the next several weeks. The full version of his letter may be found online at The Continuation of a Pastoral Letter from The Most Reverend Salvatore R. Matano, Bishop of Rochester When Saint John Paul II declared The Year of the Most Holy Eucharist for the Universal Church with his Apostolic Letter, Mane Nobiscum Domine ( Stay with us, Lord ), of October 7, 2004, he did so realizing that it was very necessary to recapture the transcendent and sublime nature of the Most Holy Eucharist and to reemphasize the sacrificial and sacramental bond between Christ and His Church. (Cf. Ephesians 5:25-27). The essential union needed between the Bridegroom and the Bride is well stated by Cardinal Robert Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments: The Church is the people of God that becomes the Body of Christ. She is born from the opened side of Christ, for our salvation. Christ is the Alpha and the Omega of the Church. Without God, the Church is nothing but a storm-tossed boat. History shows that the crisis of the Church can never be separated from a crisis of God. Without God, she is eclipsed, like a body separated from the light that illuminates it. Today, there is a serious problem because we are no longer aware of the supernatural bond that exists between Christ and his Church. (Robert Cardinal Sarah, God or Nothing, p. 107). The sad and continuing decline of those faithfully attending Mass each week gives evidence that a significant number of Catholics do not understand or have not been taught the reality of the union of Christ and the Church and of Christ s Real Presence at every celebration of the Eucharist. We continue to struggle to address this very disturbing reality. In fact, recent polls, while perhaps questionable, are no less disconcerting when they indicate the high percentage of Catholics who do not grasp the theology of the Real Presence or simply do not believe that Christ is truly present when bread and wine become His very body, blood, soul and divinity at the consecration of the Mass. Yet the Church has taught clearly and consistently that: In the institution narrative, the power of the words and the action of Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit, make sacramentally present under the species of bread and wine Christ s body and blood, his sacrifice offered on the cross once for all. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1353). The holy Catholic Church has fittingly and properly called this transubstantiation. (Council of Trent, Session XIII, Decretum de ss. Eucharistia, Chapter 4, DS 1642; Cf. also Saint John Paul II, Ecclesia de Eucharistia, no. 39). To Be Continued...

The 12 Middle States Standards for Accreditation are: mission; governance and leadership; school improvement planning; finances; facilities; school organization and staff; health and safety; educational program; assessment and evidence of student learning; student services; student life and activities, and information resources. In part, the Accreditation means that St. Rita School maintains a high level of academics, operates ethically and according to its Mission Statement, and is accountable for the performance levels of the students and their learning environment. From a School Parent... Q: Why did your family choose St. Rita s School? A: I love St. Rita s School because it makes my entire family happy. The kids have small classes with loving and invested teachers. They play outside every day for recess. As parents, we are invited to be a part of their lives at school. Best of all, the kids are learning to be great human beings, based on God s love for them. It s the whole package. Linda Murray, Mother of 4 th grader, Sarah and 2016 graduates Elana and Joseph Guess the St. Rita s School Staff Member For the remainder of the summer we will introduce you to some of our St. Rita s School staff members by playing a guessing game. Each week we will offer some facts about a different staff member and the following week we will tell you who it is. Can you guess each of the staff members? Good Luck! My favorite saint is Mary. My favorite sport is skiing. I love to eat cultural dishes from around the world. I have one pet which is a goldfish from the 2016 Fiesta! One of the biggest highlights in my life has been glacier ice climbing in Switzerland.
