Copies are also available on the table outside of the parish office. Five Minutes With the Word Advent Booklets are available in the narthex. A donor writes, Your flyer touched my heart seeing the retired religious, such memories surfaced. Do you remember the sisters, brothers, or religious order priests who made a positive difference in your life? Today many are elderly and need assistance. Their religious communities struggle to meet retirement needs while continuing to serve the People of God. Please give to next week s second collection. Continuing the long tradition of sharing the spirit and hope of the holiday season, the people of St. Cecilia Parish will celebrate with a Giving Tree. The gift tags are available for pickup in the Narthex this weekend. Please return your wrapped gift with the tag attached and the contents marked to the Narthex by noon, December 9. For security reasons, please leave the gifts during weekend Mass times only. If you missed us at the Christmas Market, there is still an opportunity to participate in the program. Please join us at the Community Alternative Gift Market that will be held at Wheatsfield Cooperative, 413 Northwestern, Ames, on Saturday, December 8 and 15, from 10am to 4pm. The Market is an ecumenical effort of eight local congregations intended to help recapture the true spirit of the holidays. "Formation for All" is an online program designed to help Catholics of all ages to learn and pray about Respect Life and Social Justice issues. The current session during the season of Advent will focus on Homelessness and the Preferential Option for the Poor and Vulnerable. Sessions are designed for all ages and various settings. The Social Justice Committee also thanks all those who donated or gave free will offerings for recycled Christmas decorations; $1, was raised from decorations, with an additional $ from the sale of pot scrubbers (provided by Charlie and Sharon Weber) for a total of $1, Remaining decorations were donated to the Food at First Pass Along Party and Goodwill. St. Cecilia Parish is a member of Good Neighbor Emergency Assistance, Inc., and is asked to hold one fundraiser each year. Over the past 11 years, they have been the recipient of a total of $9, from Christmas Market proceeds. These funds help Good Neighbor provide rent, utility, healthy food vouchers and gas assistance to those in need. PRAYER & THOUGHT Stewardship: Be on guard, Jesus warns in today s Gospel, lest your spirits become bloated with indulgence. Let us heed His warning and follow the advice of St. Paul, conducting ourselves in a way pleasing to God, overflowing with love for one another. Marriage Corner: Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from the anxieties of daily life. (Lk 21:34) Advent is a time of watchful expectation. What makes you drowsy? Talk about them with your spouse and pray for peace. Wanted: Childcare Coordinator to recruit and organize a group of parishioners who can provide childcare during parish, faith formation, and school events. Many times the decision to attend an event or stay home comes down to childcare. We re looking for someone to help us provide this beautiful service to our families a few times a year.
