3 WORSHIP NEWS Contact: Wayne Efferson Worship Servant Leader, x206 or All Liturgical Ministers The Winter/Spring Liturgical Ministers Schedule (February 3/4-May 26/27) is currently in place. If you did not get yours via our website or a hardcopy from the Gathering Space, please contact: Wayne at x206 or natwe@nativityparish.com EUCHARISTIC HOLY HOUR (WITH BENEDICTION) In keeping with Bishop Ricken s recent pastoral reflections, Teach My People to Pray, Phase 1 of Disciples on the Way: Prayer and Holiness, our parish offers a monthly Eucharistic Holy Hour with Benediction; the second Monday of each month. Our next HOLY HOUR will be on Monday, February 12 at 12:05 PM. EVANGELIZATION PREPARING FOR LENT The Worship Ministry is asking for your assistance with our Lenten decorations by inviting you to Take a White Poinsettia Home on the weekend of February 10/11 following any of the Masses and by coming to church on Tuesday, February 13 (6:00 PM) to help decorate for Lent. If you can t help at night, what about during the day? Contact Wayne Efferson, Worship Servant Leader at x206 or natwe@nativityparish.com. Your help will be greatly appreciated. OLD PALMS from Palm Sunday Old Palms can be deposited in the baskets at all Church entrances. Some of these will be used as ashes on Ash Wednesday. If you wish to dispose of your old palms, simply burn and then bury them. ASH WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 14 Ash Wednesday begins the journey of Lent in preparation of Easter. Masses will be at 8:00 AM and 6:30 PM. Also, there will be two Liturgy of the Word with the distribution of Ashes at 6:45 AM and at 12:00 PM. All Liturgical Ministers are requested to assist at these liturgies. Please sign up in the Sacristy and Ushers Room. Let us go to nearby towns to preach there, said Jesus. How spontaneously He evangelized! Of course, Jesus did not find evangelization easy when it meant carrying the cross and then dying on it. His Passover to third-day glory, however, gave cruel crucifixion new significance. Risen life gives direction to all growth. Whether we call our lack of growth sin, demon, disease, or death, Jesus shows us how to pass through it and into newness. How well he preaches the good news in our town! Text, James A. Wilde, PhD 2000, OCP. All rights reserved. Illustration 2000 K. Sullivan. Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B. TAIZE PRAYER Looking for a great way to unwind after a day of play, work, or heavy shopping this Advent Season? Come experience the solitude of Taize Prayer on Wednesday, February 21 at 6:30 PM (Chapel). Taize (pronounced -- Teh-ZAY) is an ecumenical, peaceful way to pray, using easy to learn musical chants, silent meditation, and scripture readings...a meditative, common prayer. Gathered in faith, Christians come together to sing uncomplicated repetitive short songs, like breath prayers, uncluttered by too many words, allowing the mystery of God to become tangible through the beauty of the Spirit in its simplicity. A few words sung over and over again (mantra) reinforce the meditative quality of prayer. They express a basic reality of faith that can quickly be grasped by the intellect, and will gradually penetrate the whole being.

8 BISHOP S APPEAL KICK-OFF WEEKEND FEBRUARY 3 4, 2018 He told them, Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose I have come. Mark 1:38 Dear Friends, EMBRACING A LIFE OF DISCIPLESHIP - BISHOP S APPEAL 2018 In today s Gospel, we hear about Jesus reaching out, healing the sick and those possessed by demons. Then He pushes on to continue preaching, it seems His efforts never cease. Jesus came to us with a purpose from the beginning. In a very short time, He came to preach, build up disciples to carry for His mission and to prove He was truly the Son of God. Today, there are many disciples that carry on this mission. For example, consider deacons. Our deacons not only assist at Mass, but they proclaim the Gospel bringing Christ to people in prisons, hospitals, shelters, youth programs and the homebound. The Bishop s Appeal helps fund the training and formation of deacons. Please make your gift to the Bishop s Appeal today and help deacons become servants of Christ. The abundance of Christ s love they share is immeasurable! Contact our Parish Office, use the Pledge Card you received at home or visit the Bishop s Appeal website at to make your gift. Thank you for your gift to the Bishop s Appeal and for your support of Nativity Parish. WOMEN S CONFEERNCE 2018 IN MARY S FOOTSTEPS CALLING ALL WOMEN!
