1 10:45 Orders of Worship November 11, 2012 (See a separate bulletin for 6:30 & 8:30) Widows are visible everywhere in today's readings. Jesus denounces those scribes who pray impressive prayers but devour widows' houses. He commends the poor widow who in his view gave far more than the major donors. Jesus doesn't see her simply as an object of compassion or charity. She, like the widow of Zarephath who shares her last bit of food with Elijah, does something of great importance. On this day the church also remembers Martin, Bishop of Tours, who died in 397 and Søren Aabye Kierkegaard, teacher, who died in Martin's pagan father enlisted him in the Roman army. Approached by a beggar, Martin cut his cloak in half and gave part to the man, whom he later understood as representing Christ. He asked to leave the army, but was jailed instead. After his release, he became a preacher, and later a bishop. Kierkegaard was a Danish theologian whose writings also gave rise to the modern philosophy of existentialism. He frequently attacked the complacency of the state church of his day, as well as its desire to be accepted by polite society rather than be a stumbling block. THIS BULLETIN contains information for the two 10:45 a.m. Sunday services, one a festive setting in the sanctuary and the other a praise worship in Jack s Place, our new fellowship hall. A SEPARATE BULLETIN lists the 6:30 p.m. Saturday night folk service and the 8:30 a.m. traditional service. We invite you to turn to pages 7 & 8 in this bulletin for HELPFUL INFORMATION for visitors and members alike, such as restrooms, child care and service participants. WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENT sheets are available at the doors or from a host or usher and are available online at SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES for all ages are Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. See the hallway information board or a Sunday School host for class listings and locations. SUNDAY MORNING 10:45 PRAISE COMMUNION November 11, th Sunday after Pentecost In the Worship Center in Jack s Place MESSAGE: WHEN THE PROPS FALL OUT BENEATH US - Pastor Jeff Messner PRAYER CARDS are in the chair pockets. You may fill them out at the announcement time and a host will collect them if you raise them up. They will be used at the time of the prayers. If you desire private prayer for yourself or on behalf of a loved one, inform a host. You will be paired with a prayer leader following the service for prayer and the laying on of hands. COMMUNION DISTRIBUTION: Receive the bread from the first communion deacon. Then dip the bread in the first goblet and partake (Intinction) or eat the bread and then drink from the second goblet (Common cup). You are encouraged to respond Amen as the elements are received. If you desire GRAPE JUICE OR GLUTEN-FREE WAFERS, please commune by way of the center aisle and indicate your desire to the communion deacon. IF YOU DESIRE PRIVATE, INDIVIDUAL PRAYER for yourself or on behalf of a loved one, inform a host. You will be paired with a prayer leader following the service for prayer and the laying on of hands. IF YOU ARE A FIRST-TIME GUEST TO TRINITY, please pick up a coffee mug as our welcome gift to you. We are grateful for your presence and pray that you will sense both God s presence and leading as the result of worshiping with us. CHILDREN S WELCOME PACKETS are available at the Host Station for use during the service. If your child should become restless, there is seating available to the rear of the Worship Center at Jack s Place. Staffed child care is also available in the Nursery area. FOR CHILDREN UP TO AGE 5 OR SO: At the time of the lessons and sermon, Kari Emmons will be at the back with a red pennant. Those children who would like a break from sitting still can leave with them for a time of crafts and a Bible study. They return following the sermon. Children able to sit with their parents are welcome to stay in the worship area. 2

O God, you show forth your almighty power chiefly by reaching out to us in mercy. Grant us the fullness of your grace, strengthen our trust in your promises, and bring all the world to share in the treasures that come through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
