Royal Wedding Celebration This Friday 29 th April - in the George Chapel. We'll be serving light refreshments from 9.00am to watch the build-up and the ceremony starts in Westminster Abbey at 11.00am. We'll follow this with a glass of bubbly and then a bring-and-share lunch. Please join us at any stage but if you are staying for lunch please sign up by Thursday, 28 th. Tiaras optional! Afternoon Book Group Burnt Shadows by Kamila Shamsie is our next choice. We will be meeting to discuss the book on Monday, 9 th May at 3.00 p.m. in the Meeting Room in the Church Hall. 3 He wore his coat... A message from the Producer and Director Becky and Sally would like to say a really big thank you for all of the support people gave us to make Joseph such a huge success. Watch this space for our next project! Donations from the Door A very grand total of 550, which was collected at the door after the Joseph shows, has been donated to the paediatric oncology ward at QMC. A great big thank you to all who donated. Joseph Programmes We have some programmes left over, if anyone would like one as a souvenir, please let Karen know in the next week or so before they are recycled. (admin@stgilesparish.com / ) Gazebos Does anyone have a gazebo(s) that Tom and Emily could borrow to use for their wedding reception on Saturday 9 th July? If so, please contact Tom, either in church or on Christian Aid Week th to 21st May Quiz Night - Saturday 7th May Tickets are NOW available from Debbie and Matt Keown for our annual quiz. They remain 10 per person with nibbles brought to your tables and a competitively priced bar available in The George. Please support this popular event by encouraging your friends and family to attend, organised into teams of up to 10 people. We will be in church selling tickets on Sunday after the 10am service. Alternatively, please call us on to arrange collection we really need to know numbers for our catering! House to House Collections We still need collectors for the following roads - Eltham Road, Mayflower Close and Gardens Court. If you feel you could spare a couple of hours to deliver and collect envelopes during the 15th to 21st May, please approach us. We will be hosting an afternoon tea party on Sunday 12th June to thank you for your efforts and will reward you with home-made cake! Church Grounds Tidy Up On Saturday, 14 th May, bring your gardening tools and gloves and help clear up our church grounds come along between 9:30 and 12, for however long you can manage even half an hour makes a difference!

4 Great Wall of China Walk Angharad Shipton and her mother Iona along with 18 others are walking a section of the Great Wall of China starting on the 16th April and finishing on the 24th April - then on to Bejing. They are doing this to raise money for the Bowel Cancer Charity and would love to have both your support and of course your donations for this worthy cause. You can sponsor them via: Children's Helpers Night Out Thursday 5 th May 7.30pm for 8pm Belle and Jerome Do you serve at St Giles by helping in any way with Children's work? Maybe you are on the Crèche or Sunbeams rota or maybe you help with Toddlers, Junior Church or Messy Church. Do you get roped into Holiday Club, Good Friday workshop, the nativity or help lead Impact or Horizons? There are so many people who help in some way with the Children's work at St Giles. We'd love you all to join us at our Children's helpers social night on 5 th May, no matter what it is you do. It's a really good opportunity to make friends and share experiences per head for a full buffet- tickets available from Sarah Moppett or Helen Jones. All welcome, hope you can come. Ruddington and District Choral Society Concert RDCS s next concert will be held at St Giles on Saturday, 21 st May starting at 7.30pm. It will be a performance of Mendelssohn s Elijah, conducted by David Woodhouse, and the organ will be played by Philip Millward. Tickets are priced at 8 in advance, or 9 on the door, including refreshments, and can be obtained from: Perkins Hardware, Ruddington; Tall Frog, Melton Rd, West Bridgford; or Choir members ( ). Charity Concert Our son John, a saxophonist, will be performing at the Djanogly Recital Hall, Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham University on Saturday 18 th June at 7.30pm. All profits will be for the work of Cruse Bereavement Care in Nottinghamshire. The programme will be wide ranging and will include music by Bach, Debussy, Gershwin and Brubeck, so will suit a range of tastes. 5 Sons of Korah at St Peter s Church, Ruddington Thursday 5th May at 7.30pm Tickets are available now for a concert featuring the Australian band Sons of Korah and Nottingham gospel-singer songwriter Freddie Kofi. Between them they will present a musical journey into the spiritual drama of the Psalms, and help you to experience God in a new and refreshing way. The concert is part of a UK tour being organised as part of the Bible Society s campaign to give everyone a new confidence in using the Bible in the 400th Anniversary year of the publication of the King James Bible. The Band has an international reputation and wide-uk following, so don t miss this opportunity to hear them. Tickets are also available from St Peter s Church office on The Friary Fellowship Friary Fellowship is a small group based at Friary URC. It is open to anyone, and meets most Tuesday evenings from 7.30 to 9 pm. They have the following evenings coming up which they thought members of St Giles may be interested in: Tuesday 17 th May Jean and George Smith will be talking about their visit to Kenya and the Karibuni Trust. The Trust is a UK-based charity which raises awareness of the plight of children living on the streets and in the slums of Nairobi and raises money to support projects to meet their needs. Tuesday 24 th May Rev Philip Humphreys will be giving a musical evening. Fellowship members usually pay 1 per meeting, but there is no charge for visitors. Nottingham Arimathea Trust The trust supports destitute asylum seekers, and has sent us a donations wish list to help them furnish a new home for 4 new residents in need of a home.
