6 Mothering Sunday: March 30th We shall be celebrating Mothering Sunday with a service of Family at a.m. Posies of flowers will be available for children to give to their mothers/ carers. On Mothering Sunday we say thank you to our mothers. and make a bit of an effort, perhaps by tidying our rooms a bit. Annual Parish Meeting/Annual Parochial Church Meeting These two meetings which are so close together that they feel like one meeting will take place this year on April 13 at 5.30 p.m. Both meetings are open to anyone who wishes to attend, though there are restrictions on who may vote. The Annual Parish Meeting is for the election of Churchwardens, and anyone on the civil electoral roll who lives in the parish of St Leonard may vote. The Annual Parochial Church Meeting receives reports on the life of the church and hears any questions which you may have about St Giles Church. It also elects members to the PCC, and anyone who is on the church electoral roll may vote. Please consider carefully if you are able to offer to serve on the PCC (Parochial Church Council). New ideas, new enthusiasm and new energy are always needed to ensure the vitality of your Parish Church into the future. Please have a word with the Churchwardens or Rector if you would like to serve your Parish Church in this way. Page 6

7 Thought for the month: From our Rector, the Revd. David Wintle. It was the twins birthday the other day, and the whole family went out for a meal and then came back to our house for some birthday cake. The trouble is, we ve got so much stuff lying around in our house that we had to excavate the dining room before everybody came over. So piles of shopping bags full of papers were dumped in my study. We thought we d got away with it, but someone turned up to talk about a baptism and there was no alternative to taking them into the study and standing - no room to sit among the chaos. We all like to present a tidy appearance to the world, but we can get caught out, especially if we are hoarders who find it hard to let go of stuff. This Lent, let us think about the difference between how we present ourselves on the outside and who we are on the inside. One phrase from the Sermon on the Mount is often rendered as Blessed are the poor in spirit but some modern translations have it as How blessed are those who know their need for God. Once we realize our need for God, we can be assured that God will help us clean out our spiritual cupboards. But there s a catch there. If we want to sort the clutter out in our lives, just like in our homes, then we can t stuff things in a cupboard or another room and bring them out later, maybe after Easter, and think we ve done the job properly, because sooner or later we will be caught out. If we are going to give something up for Lent, let it be something that really counts, something that we know we shouldn t be doing or thinking or saying, and when Easter comes, let s not go back to it. Let s give it up for good. Provost Williams Church of England Primary School. Have you applied for your Nursery place at Provost Williams Primary School? Spaces available after your child s third birthday. Sessions are available Monday to Friday 9am to and full time childcare available in conjunction with The Ark 7.45am to 6pm For an application form and more details please call the school office on It s never too early to apply!
