(1 John 3:1) During this season of giving, let us remember the most important gift we have received being children of God. It assists us to serve you. Please complete the following and return to the parish office by mail or in the weekend collection basket. Thank you for your assistance. NAME ADDRESS POSTAL CODE TELEPHONE PARISH OFFERING ENVELOPES? YES NOT AT THIS TIME FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY December 30, 2018 A child of hope Some pregnancies are not expected. They come as a surprise to parents, who find themselves faced with excitement over new life and trepidation over new responsibilities they had not planned for. Other pregnancies are hoped for. Those children come as an answer to a prayer. Parents still feel excitement and trepidation, but they are a little more prepared for the responsibilities that follow. Then there are adoptions. In these cases parents take extraordinary measures to obtain a child for their family. They understand the responsibility and they are anxious to have it, to share their love with a child. No adoption happens unexpectedly. The child is always hoped for and embraced. All of us are adopted children of God. God has taken extraordinary measures to bring us into the family. God sent Jesus to become like us, to suffer for us, and to die for us. The First Letter of John says, See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. And so we are. God did not have to do this; God did it out of love. Today we celebrate the Holy Family. We celebrate two parents who accepted a pregnancy that was not expected. But John s letter reminds us that Jesus, Mary and Joseph are not the only members of the Holy Family. You are too. You are a child of God. Paul Turner. Resource Publications Inc. rpinet.com PRE-AUTHORIZED GIVING PROGRAM YES Alleluia. Alleluia. Open our hearts. O Lord, to listen to the words of your Son. Alleluia.

His list of virtues summarizes the ideals of communal stewardship: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. For Paul, practicing these virtues open our hearts to Christ as individuals and as a worshipping community. This is how the Christian community ought to live. This is how its members should behave in their dealings with others, particularly with fellow believers. As we approach a new year, how might we embrace one of these virtues more fully in order to deepen our relationship with Jesus? DID YOU KNOW?... The CWL has two types of calendars available for sale. 3 2019 World Day of Peace - Good Politics at the Service of Peace Political Responsibility Belongs to Every Citizen - Anita Bourdin The theme of the 52 nd World Day of Peace - to be observed on January 1, 2019, - and of the Pope s Message for the occasion is Good Politics at the Service of Peace.... the press release emphasized the responsibility of each one in politics. Political responsibility belongs to every citizen and, in particular, to those that have received the mandate to protect and to govern. And see in what this responsibility consists, which passes through dialogue: This mission consists in safeguarding the right of and in encouraging dialogue between the actors of society, between the generations and between the culture. The commentary emphasizes trust. There is no peace without mutual trust. And trust has, as the first condition, respect for the given word. Taking up an expression of Saint Paul VI, the Vatican recalled the connection between charity and politics and insisted on the care of the environment and of young peoples. Political engagement which is one of the highest expressions of charity carries the concern for the future of life and of the planet, of the youngest and the littlest, in their thirst for fulfillment. The Holy See s note also quotes Saint John XXIII: When man is respected in his rights a sense of duty germinates in him to respect the rights of others, Saint John XXIII reminded in his 1963 encyclical Pacem in Terris. The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God WAMŨYŨ TERESIA WACHIRA, IBVM The feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God is one of the greatest feasts in the Church calendar. This is also the day that the whole world celebrates the World Day of Peace; peace in our hearts, in our communities, our Churches, our Nations, the World. What a great feast day, let us rejoice and celebrate. As I prayed and pondered on the readings of this great feast day, three themes stood out for me; the theme of Blessings, Hope and Peace of God. In the first reading, the Lord instructs Moses about blessings, blessings for the Israelites for us too, for we are the adopted daughters and sons of God through God s Son Jesus, born of Mary. Be still and let God bless you anew this day and always. In Psalm 67 we are assured of these blessings that extend to all the peoples of the earth. In the Second reading, we witness God s great love for us; that God sent Jesus, born of Mary to come and dwell among us. This shows how much God loves us and cares for us. Through Jesus paschal mystery we are no longer slaves but co-heirs with Jesus and God who is Abba, our Creator. As we ponder on this second reading, we are invited to hold onto this message of hope -- that God chooses Mary, a woman from a humble beginning, a woman who was lowly in people s eyes, to carry and give birth to Jesus the Saviour of the world, the bridge builder, bearer of Good News, the one who proclaims the year of God s favour, our true peace, Emmanuel God with us. God our Creator, Please shine your face upon us, Shine your face on our beautiful world and its people God of our salvation be gracious to us Give us true peace that like Mary the mother of your Son and our Mother We may be open to receive your Son, Jesus in our hearts and in our midst Come Lord Jesus, Emmanuel God with us, Come and dwell among us anew Until we become like you, until we become like you. Amen. WELCOME to all visiting with us this weekend. Your faith and spirit enrich our community. May you travel safely and know that God s presence is always with you. WE PLEDGE 5%... Keewatin-LePas is a missionary parish Catholic archdiocese covering a land mass of 430,000 square kilometers in northern Saskatchewan, Manitoba and a small corner of North-West Ontario. The Métis, First Nations of Cree, OjiCree, Dene and non-natives make up the richness of a mixed culture. The current archbishop is Murray Chatlain. The seat of the diocese is at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral in The Pas. This week 5% will be given to the Archdiocese of Keewatin- LePas to enable parish leaders to provide religious and spiritual leadership. Thank you for your support. The Fire of Love Will Set the Earth Ablaze - Ilia Delio, OSF Franciscan prayer, lived to its full, is to set the human heart on fire. It is to transform one's body into a body of love and one's actions into actions of love. In this transformation is the fire that can set the earth ablaze--the fire of light, peace, justice, unity and dignity. It is to see the wounds of suffering humanity and bind them with mercy and compassion. It is to see and feel for all creation--to love by way of self-gift. It is to live in the mystery of Christ, the mystery of God enfleshed. From the book Franciscan Prayer PARISH OFFERING TAX RECEIPTS Thank you to all who have contributed financially to Holy Spirit parish this year. All donations received by December 31, 2018 will be included in the 2018 charitable donation tax receipts which will be available by the end of February, PARISH MISSION Holy Spirit Parish is offering a Parish Mission during Lent - March 24 to 27, Sunday (8:00 pm- 9:00 pm); Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 7:00 pm-8:15 pm. Facilitated by Father Graham Hill CSsR; Deacon Bob Williston and Joan Williston. Parenting: Not for the Faint of Heart LUKE 2:41-52 His mother said to him, son, why have you done this to us? Even Jesus drove his mother crazy sometimes. It can be hard to factor such an idea into our image of the Holy Family. Most of the portraits we see of that remarkable group make them seem like they five in a cocoon of utter devotion to one another. That cocoon seems unmarred by real-life events like bad report cards, street fights, money worries, and childhood illnesses. Did the Holy Family escape all of these? Luke reminds us the portraits have been airbrushed. Giving birth far from home is rough. That manger smelled like more than just straw. Matthew tells us the family became refugees for a time. Occupying soldiers bullied the populace routinely. It wasn't all posing for holy cards back then. And then, to have a kid like Jesus, who claims a divine mission at age twelve? Mary and Joseph kept a bottle of aspirin handy for days like this.» Family life is a vocation. What would you say are the five most essential ingredients to embracing this vocation? Alice Camille Exploringthesundayreadings.com FOOD FOR THE POOR A food container is available at the church entrance to receive your gifts of nonperishable food. This food will be distributed to agencies in Saskatoon involved in helping to feed the poor. Why not try on a weekly basis to bring an item of food? It will be a great reminder of God s blessings and how we are called to bless others.
