3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK... My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I pray that you had a most wonderful Thanksgiving. It is such a beautiful time to be with family and friends. I want to thank all who participated in the Mass and who brought in the bakery for the fellowship that followed the Mass. Also, it was good to get together with our friends from our Cluster Parish, Holy Rosary. This weekend we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. Although originally set to be the last Sunday of October, during the revision of the Calendar, it was relocated at the end of the Liturgical Year. As another year of salvation comes to a close, we are reminded that we should give over our entire lives to Christ the King who should reign in our lives. The picture on the cover of the bulletin is that of our Divine Infant King. As you know, on the 17 th of each month we begin a novena to the Divine Infant King. It concludes on the 25 th of the month. In that prayer we recognize our dependence on Christ who should rule in our lives. Why the 17 th until the 25 th you might ask? Next month will give you the answer. Next Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent. Hopefully you have obtained an Advent Meditation Booklet to help you through the Season. Perhaps you might also consider placing an Advent Wreath on your dinner table. Please try not to jump into Christmas too soon and miss out on this beautiful and prayerful Season. The Giving Tree is up and decorated in the Church. Please turn your hearts to the poor this Season and stop to take an ornament. You may remember a Christmas Eve tradition we have: lighting the path to the entrances with luminaries. We need 1 gallon, plastic milk/juice bottles, rinsed out thoroughly, stickers peeled off. Would you save yours for us? Collection recepticles are at the entrances. May God s blessings be yours on this Feast of Christ the King. Thank you to all who faithfully support our parish each week. We depend on your generosity to carry out the mission of Jesus Christ in the Hillcrest area. It is only with your continued and regular support that we can provide the current variety of parish apostolates to them. If you have discontinued your financial support, please consider reinstating that practice. If you would be interested in a carefree way to contribute to your parish each month, please call Eileen Gerome at the Parish Office Monday through Wednesday each week( ). She will be happy to assist you in setting up this option with either the Sts. Margaret and Gregory Credit Union or the bill payer feature with your own personal banking institution. Father Ireland Some of the symbols that are used at Christmas are bells. You may have noticed that ours have been silent for a while. Sadly, our bell system crashed, and the technicians from the Verdin Bell Company said that because of its age, it cannot be repaired. Would you like to give your parish the gift of bells for Christmas? Donations are being accepted to help in the cost of the new carillon system. The cost will be over $10,000. Any gift toward this cause would be most appreciated. Help us to let the joy of Christmas ring out from Sacred Heart of Jesus this Christmas. If you are able to make a donation for our new carillon system, please put your donation in an envelope marked Bells or contact me at the parish. Any amount would be most appreciated. Thank you for your goodness. By the way, the new Ambo is still being fashioned in Italy. I hope that it will arrive soon.

6 Annual Giving Tree Project sponsored by the Women s Guild For many people, the holidays are extremely difficult. Hunger, poverty, and the cold prevent people from experiencing the joy of the season. Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish helps bring the miracle of Christmas to Families who are in need through our Annual Giving Tree Program. Each year, the Women's Guild sets up a Christmas tree which is decorated with gift request ornaments. The tree will be placed in front of the altar on the Holy Family side of the church. It will remain there until Sunday, December 9. Parishioners are asked to select an ornament or two from the tree, purchase the gift(s) listed, then bring your gift back to Church unwrapped on or before the December 9 deadline & place it under the tree. We ask that all gifts be returned unwrapped so that parents are able to see the items and select those they know their children need and will enjoy. Donations of gift bags or wrapping paper for parents to use to wrap the gift items are also appreciated. Thank you for helping to provide a bit of Christmas joy to the parents & children who benefit from this Project. Again this year, the Guild is collecting donations of NEW baby items such as bottles, diapers (larger than NB), sleepers, onesies, crib sheets, receiving blankets, etc., which will be delivered to Birthright, Inc., where they will be given to needy pregnant women to help them prepare for the birth of their babies. New or gently used maternity tops (any size) are also needed. All items should be UNWRAPPED and placed in the cradle near the tree. Sacred Heart of Jesus parishioners have been helping Fatima Center and Birthright, Inc. for many years. They have always been very appreciative of your donations and grateful for your tremendous generosity. Please call Amy Statler ( ) with any questions. Enthronement of the Sacred Heart If your family would like an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus enthroned in your home, please call Father Ireland at the Parish Office ( ). Father will set up a time to come to your home and lead this beautiful devotion. Let us Love with the Heart of Christ Friends of the Sacred Heart Saturday, December 8, 2018: Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
