1 CHURCH OF OUR FATHER PO Box 186 HULLS COVE, MAINE (For GPS locator 91 State Hwy 3, Bar Harbor, ME ) Words from the Well - April ~ shalomcoof@myfairpoint.net The Rt. Rev. Stephen T. Lane, Bishop of Maine The Rev. Suzanne Cole, Priest-in-Charge The Rev. Mary-Carol Griffin, Deacon God Will Take Care of You On March 15th, I led a service at Birch Bay in the main building. It s where Fr. Bob lives and he never misses a Wednesday service. There are 5-6 others from the facility and they all take turns choosing hymns for our time together. One of them chose a hymn I had never heard before, but it has been on my mind ever since that day. It s called, God will take care of you and was written by Civilla Martin in The scripture reference is 1 Peter 5:7, Cast all your anxiety on him, because he care for you. The words are as follows: Be not dismayed whate er betide, God will take care of you Beneath His wings of love abide, God will take care of you. Refrain: God will take care of you, Through every day, o er all the way: He will take care of you, God will take care of you. The other verses contain such comforting lines as, Through day of toil when heart doth fail, when dangers fierce your path assail, all you may need He will provide, nothing you ask will be denied, no matter what may be the test, lean, weary one, upon His breast. In this season of Lent and Easter, God calls us to let Him take care us; in every situation. Jesus tells us time and time again to take on His yoke because it is easy and his burden is light. We are not to wander and worry through this life alone. Thank God for that! Our assurance and comfort comes from leaning on Jesus and God will provide. Even if life doesn t look as if God is there, he is walking with us every step of the way. Our faith makes it so we can get through whatever life throws at us. Not get over; get through it. When life gets rough, remember these words; God will take care of you. Happy Easter! Mother Sue+
2 2 Parish Life Congregational Meeting Part II We will get together for another meeting on May 7 th after the 10am service. It will be of a similar format as the last one, with the vestry up front with an open forum. The only difference is that we would like to have the discussion revolve around ideas for the future of Church of Our Father. Please come to the meeting and let us know what you have been thinking about. AED update As of the last vestry meeting on March 19 th, we have an approximate cost for the device for Church of Our Father. The Bar Harbor Fire Dept recommended that we have the same as theirs which costs about $2,000. The advantage of having the same one would be that the department would be familiar with it and the pads would be identical to theirs. Please consider making a donation for this device. It may save your life! NOTE: In Weekly Announcements you ll find there s a free class given on Weds- Apr5 & also Weds - May SWH Library (See Weekly Announcements) Kleaning for Ken Ken Linscott, our sexton and member of the parish, had surgery on March 21 st. It will be at least 6 weeks before he is able to resume his duties here at the church. We are asking for volunteers to clean the building each week and there is a sign- up sheet on the bulletin board. It is broken up into three areas to clean so that no one has the entire facility to deal with. Thank you for volunteering! Ken will rest and recover quicker knowing that this is happening. Maundy Thursday Church of Our Father is hosting the Maundy Thursday service this year. It is on April 13 th at 5:30pm. We need to have helpers for the foot washing part of the service. There will be two chairs and kneelers set up and helpers will hand out towels and make sure there is warm water in the pitchers. Please let Mother Sue know if you are willing to help out. Palm Sunday Narrative This year Palm Sunday is on April 9 th and additional readers are needed to the Gospel narrative at the 10:00 service. Please let Mother Sue know if you are willing to read that day. The parts are high-lighted on each copy so there is no hunting for your line. Easter Sunday There will be only one service at 9:00 on Easter Sunday, April 16 th. Please note this on your calendars. Thank you! Holy Week Schedule see next page for a full color listing 2
3 SOUNDINGS II From Our Sr. Warden For April 2017 I am heading back north to the white spring season It was fun to visit with family and the town I grew up in. There are a lot changes in forty-one years, such as shopping malls built up and closed where corn fields used to be, as well as many fine old buildings torn down and replaced with a few box stores, or bare ground. As I am aging and observing, I realize Christ is the one consistent in my life. He never changes. The meeting on 5 March 2017 was good to allow the vestry, congregation, and clergy to join in an open discussion concerning our past and present situations. The meeting ran longer than I expected, however all who wished to speak were allowed time and respect to do so. As a Vestry, we need to reflect on what we were told and move forward to reconcile our church body in the love Christ taught us, partly by making plans to come together again and to move forward with healing and conversation as to our future viable Christian brotherhood. Items to be considered: Our Supplemental Song Books are showing wear and tear and should be replaced. Volunteers are ready to do so but will need funds to buy paper and covers. I can provide a binding machine. We need to locate the mason or slate shingle roofer we had before to investigate possible leakage around old chimney showing up in the plaster high up on the wall between the altar and sacristy. Concerning progress on the flower bed against the parish hall wall, there needs another two or three inches of good soil added in the spring. (Sue Olson already paid for rocks.) Respectfully submitted, Mike Bullard 3 Holy Week: Mother Sue is requesting volunteers to read a part (s) on Palm Sunday (April 9), as the Gospel reading is in the narrative form. For Holy Week: Palm Sunday, April 9, at 8 & 10 am, to be held at 91 State Hwy 3, Hulls Cove. Church of Our Father. Maundy Thursday Service: Thursday, April 13 at 5:30pm, Holy Eucharist with foot washing, to be held at Church of Our Father, 91 State Hwy 3, Hulls Cove, who will be the Island host for the service. Good Friday Service: Friday, April 14 at 6 pm, to be held at St. Mary s by-the -Sea, 20 South Shore Road, Northeast Harbor, who will be the Island host for the service. Easter Vigil Service: Saturday, April 15 at 7-9pm, to be held at St. John s, 315 Main Street Southwest Harbor, who will be the Island host for the service. Easter: Sunday, April 16, at 9 am, to 3 be held at 91 State Hwy 3, Hulls Cove. Church of Our Father will have ONLY one service, rather than the normal two.

6 6 Beautiful New Pew Cushions Coinciding with the 125 th Anniversary of Church of Our Father, the Episcopal Church Women (E.C.W.) accomplished the task of replacing 25 beautiful new pew and altar cushions now installed in our Church. They were fabricated by James Sanborn Upholstery, and we so appreciate his timeliness and willingness to work with us for a very reasonable price. We were happy to give the old cushions a new home at the Lamoine Historical Society, in the old church that they own. This was a substantial investment for the E.C.W. and they welcome any donations to help defray the cost of these cushions. Please make checks payable to E.C.W., noting: Cushion Fund. Thank you, thank you E.C.W. gals for a job well done! Finishing up in April: 5 week study program based on a book by Max Lucado. Last Study Wednesday, April 5 at 10 am Thrift Shop Needs Clothing The Waste Not, Want Not Thrift Shop will open in June 2017! Cleaning closets? The E.C.W. is now accepting good clean clothing for the shop. Linens, Bedding CDs Books Jewelry and... glassware for the Curiosity Corner are most welcome. No electronics please.
