Words From The Well June 2016 CHURCH OF OUR FATHER 91 State Hwy 3, PO Box 186 HULLS COVE, MAINE ~ shalomcoof@myfairpoint.net churchofourfather.org The Rt. Rev. Stephen T. Lane, Bishop of Maine The Rev. Suzanne Cole, Priest-in-Charge The Rev. Mary-Carol Griffin, Deacon Hellos and Goodbyes June is a wonderful month. It is full of celebrations like Father s Day, High School Graduation Day, family reunions, weddings and the beginning of summer and school vacations. It is the month when most of our summer people return to the Island and enjoy the weather, activities and fellowship this part of Maine has to offer. The month can also be a time of saying goodbye. High school graduation means saying goodbye to friends and teachers you have known for at least four years and it can be a time to remember the people you had to say goodbye to as they moved to another state or country. This June we are saying goodbye to David and Sandy LeFever as they move to Pennsylvania in order to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Church of Our Father gave them a farewell luncheon on May 29 th and a good time was had by all. We will miss them and they will miss us, but changes are a part of life. Hellos and goodbyes were also part of the life of Jesus followers and change was happening at a rapid pace. Just think how it was for them to watch Jesus die on the cross, discover he rose from the dead three days later, have him with them for 40 days only to leave them and ascend into heaven. It was no wonder that they stayed in the upper room and waited for the next hello or change to happen. The next piece was the coming of the Holy Spirit and what a change occurred in their hearts and minds! The Holy Spirit was the hello they needed to go out and tell others about Jesus. Nowadays, the Holy Spirit is given to us at the time of our Baptism. So why are most of us still acting as if we haven t received it? It could be that we were baptized and confirmed so many years ago that we have to be re-introduced to the third person of the Trinity. So the month of June is a good time to become reacquainted with what Jesus commanded his disciples and us to do. It s time to celebrate the reunion of our Christian life with Jesus. Happy Summer! Mother Sue+

P A G E 2 ~ JUNE 2016 Greetings, Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The information collected for the Mutual Study of Ministry has been transmitted to Rev. Michael Ambler for his review. Father Ambler will then return to Church of Our Father to present his summation to the vestry. The Gift Policy was brought up at the last vestry meeting and debated. After a lengthy discussion it went back to committee. The committee has met, made wording modifications, and the policy will be resubmitted for a vote at the next vestry meeting which is Sunday June 12. I will be gone the first two weeks in June to attend my granddaughter s graduation and visit my sister who moved away to Georgia. Respectfully submitted Mike Bullard Senior Warden Memorial Service The service for Bob Sinnett who died April 23th will be on July 16 th at 10 am. This is a Saturday so most could attend and the ECW will provide a light reception after the service.

W O R D S F R O M T H E W E L L ~ P A G E 3 Summer classes at Church of Our Father Sunday June 12 will be the continuation of the highly successful study of the Book of Common Prayer, titled, Beyond the Dirty Pages. We will look at a different section of the prayer book each week. The study will run until August 14 and is a drop-in class. Come each Sunday at 9 am or when you are in town. Thursday July 7 at 7 pm will be a 5 week study of the book Half-Truths by Adam Hamilton. There will be a sign up sheet and purchase of the book is required. Mother Sue will order the books so that all participants will have read the introduction and Chapter 1 by the first class. It will be very helpful to have a Bible and journal as well. It will end on August 4. Please ask Mother Sue for more information. Mother Sue s vacation/away time Mother Sue will be on vacation from August There will be a supply priest on Sunday August 21 and Wednesday August 24. She will be away for two continuing education conferences in the next several months. The first is the Ignite Conference in Burlington, VT from June The second one is the CREDO conference in Delray Beach, FL from September 28 to October 4. Since this will include Sunday October 2nd, a supply priest will be requested for that day. Since 1997, CREDO conferences have provided clergy with a multifaceted wellness experience that many have described as life changing. Through exploration of four component areas- Spiritual, Vocational, Financial, and Physical/Psychological health and wellness- CREDO conference participants explore way in which focusing on their personal well being support a healthy life and ministry. Throughout the conference, clergy engage in a variety of learning opportunities. Interspersed with times of listening and questioning are quiet times for reflection, worship and contemplation. Plenary presentations, small group interaction, faculty-led workshops, one on one consultations, large group gatherings, and small intimate conversations support and encourage sharing, reflection, worship, silence, laughter, and socializing. Participation in CREDO is by invitation only. (taken from the CREDO website) After nearly 14 years in ministry, I have finally agreed to go to CREDO. I have been encouraged to do so by my fellow clergy. The cost is reimbursed by the Church Pension Fund after the conference so there is no expense for Church of Our Father or me. I humbly ask for your prayers while I am away at this conference. -Mother Sue +

P A G E 10 ~ JUNE 2016 May 24, 2016 Dear Church of Our Father Partners in God s M2M Mission, Four months ago, beans were growing here and now we have a music building! God has done a mighty work. Bishop Stephen Kaziimba said this last week when he visited us at Bp. Lutaaya College during the 11 th Holiday Music & Computer Classes. Students on holiday from school had come to study and learn the piano, ukulele, computer, choir singing and dance. What was different last week was that we held the classes in the new music building. Thank you for helping us build it with your generous contributions. Our theme for the week was from Ps. 149:1&3, Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints. Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp. God desires our praise and worship which flows from his love and our hearts. We hurry to thank him for all he does for us all the time, every day. God meets us as we glorify him and we are healed, forgiven, guided, and transformed. These are the things that are most important in our lives. The presence of God and his delight in our worship was felt by all who were together last week and we were blessed. Four happy music teachers.

W O R D S F R O M T H E W E L L ~ P A G E 11 Chuck and I are grateful for your contributions to enable us to serve the church in Mityana and construct a Music House at the college. We will continue this mission after we return to the US and serve as Associate Missionaries with SAMS. In Col. 4:17, Paul says, Tell Archippus: See to it that you complete the work you have received in the Lord. God will fulfill his plan for Music Education in Mityana. We and you are privileged and called to be part of it. Please continue supporting us with your prayers and financial gifts as God inspires you. We love you and give thanks to God for you, Beth & Chuck+ Hope you enjoy the photos of the historic first Holiday Music & Computer Class, held on May 16-20, 2016 in Mityana, at Bp. Lutaaya Theological and Vocational College. Music teachers receive their certificates of appreciation. Music students receive certificates for their work. Fun with the floor keyboard
